No...
Love them, but I would not compare them to Zep. Probably more like Black Sabath, Judas Priest, or Motorhead.

The point is that Metallica was to 80's and 90's kids what Zep was to 70's kids. I agree that Zep was the better band.

The other three bands you mentioned were never as big or revered as Metallica was. Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer were the Sabbath, Priest and Motorhead of the 80's.

Uh no!!!!

Not even in the same league.

I think VT's pregame hype is pretty cool, but given their losing record at home against ranked teams I wonder how the stadium got it's reputation for being one of the toughest places to play?

I like this teams attitude and don't see them not being ready for anyone left on the schedule. After the Stanford win, VT was the place to stub their toe.

I agree that Zep was the better band. But You are underestimating just how good Metallica was. They we're incredible from 82-92. Metallica owned the underground scene with the kids the way Zep did and that was the point.

Zep was not really an underground band. Their first album debuted top 10 on the charts. Metalica was more of a subculture band for several years before becoming mainstream in 89. Most of their fans from the early to mid 80s thought they had become too soft/commercialized, and had sold out.

For the record, I was a huge fan (from beginning thru mainstream), and saw them several times in the 80s. I just don't see any comparison to Zep.

I'm absolutely unequivocally scared.
We are acting as if we've already accomplished the final goal, and I'll admit I'm apart of the original we.
It's just amazing in my opinion. Listening, watching, over glamourizing, the majority act like we are over the hump.

I will not be happy as a 30 plus year fan until our boys can bring home the hardware.

We are not over the proverbial "great team" hump, but I think we are over the "ND is not well rounded, and is likely to lay an egg sometime this season" hump.

Different humps.

I'll be ecstatic if we make the playoffs. I'll be on top of the world if we win the first round. I'll assume I'm dead and gone to heaven if we win a NC (don't see that happening)....

It's OK to be happy and confident when the team is winning better than it has in all the BK years, and looks to have depth and well roundedness (i made that word up thank you) at almost every position group.

Don't worry, be happy.

Yea I can agree with most of you. It's not this board that worries me. It's all of the other pundit's that we have. Starting with SiriusXM.

Nothing more to say about the game that hasn't already been covered. Enter Sandman entrance is the best team entrance I've ever seen in person bar none. Blew the Clemson hill run out of the water. Crowd was loud but not hate-fueled. I'll again say that Va Tech fans were the nicest I've ever been around. I was constantly welcomed to Blacksburg and if I ever looked confused about which direction to head it wasn't long before someone asked me if I needed directions. To the point where after the game I was being thanked for making the trip by their fans. Definitely will pull for Va Tech versus random teams in the future.

Thank you for sharing this. I felt the same way in Norman when we played them in 2012. I still kind of root for Oklahoma because the fans were more than friendly and were so welcoming. So happy to hear that VA Tech fans were the same way! Classy!

Hey, ND is always sexy for the talking heads when we are winning....
Hope the team doesn't buy into the shit, but all the talk sure is great for cruitin'.

Blah, blah, blah. College football Is great. Why? Because It's about kids and their dreams some of us never had the chance to live out.

Love the way this team is playing. This team has things to work on in all aspects, but the difference with this team versus past Kelly teams is they recognize this and want to get better. Book has the football mind to be one of the all time greats at ND. He went up against IMO the greatest DC in the college game and conquered everything thrown at him. As a Bears fan this pains me to say but he reminds me of Aaron Rodgers in his style of play.

Delayed Post-Game Thoughts:

1. The Stanford game was a borderline erotic experience based on situation, context, etc... But this game was the first time where ND started to look the part of an elite team, IMO.

Elite teams take the best shot from the opposition, but find ways to make big plays and then take control when the door opens. That's what ND did, between the Kareem/Love touchdown when VT had momentum, to the Dex 97-yarder when ND was on the ropes, to the demoralizing running game in the second half... ND didn't just 'find a way,' as BK likes to say... they found a way, and then elevated beyond that. They found a way, and then straight up clowned and demoralized VT.

Those types of plays to fight back and then take control are what you see from Clemson, Ohio State, and Georgia (not Bama... they just steamroll from the open). When things go bad, they end up dominating anyway. ND seems to be developing that type of killer instinct, and they've got the talent, coaching, and development to back it up. How refreshing.

2. If Book connects on that deep pass to Finke on the second drive to go up 14-0, ND wins by 35 in a game that's never close.

3. If VT's trick play doesn't get called back, ND still rolls them in the second half.

4. You can see the young defensive linemen get better not just every game, but nearly drive-to-drive. Jayson A. is gonna be a problem. Ade O. gets better every time out. Jamir Jones was a liability in the first half, but was much better in the second half. Justin A. is showing flashes when he's getting reps on the inside. Elston is doing something right with these guys, and that doesn't even account for the pass-rush trio that get all the headlines.

5. Terry Joseph needs a raise. Jalen Elliott is getting a little better each game, which I'm sure is in part because he's playing with confidence right now. He's still probably the guy that's gonna get picked on when we play a team with a quality passing attack (Syracuse; USC), but he's not the same liability that he was last year. Griffith has had plenty of growing pains, but he's shown flashes. Gilman has been solid. The safety play is good enough that Lea is able to continuously be creative with the front 7. That's a great sign.

6. BK and Long are going to continue to fine-tune the offense, and it's gonna carry the defense through some of the attrition and rough spots that are bound to come up over the back half of the schedule. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

7. Phil Jurkovec is gonna play the whole fourth quarter against Pitt. I can feel it in my bones.

Not underestimating at all. I had kids that grew up with Metallica and listened to them all the time, so I heard them on a regular basis. My point and I believe YJ's as well, is that while Metallica was a very popular band they were not the 80's equivalent of LZ.

Total albums sold LZ 300 million, Metallica 125 million.

Zep is really on another level and can't adequately be compared to anyone else. "Kill'Em All" from Metallica was a REALLY good album though, their best ever and one of my favorite albums of all time.

Can't wait to re-watch this one. Saw a pass chart on Twitter I think - Book only missed 2 passes under 20 yards and missed all but one long pass to comprise his 71% passing day. Ridiculous accuracy on short stuff. None of those long balls had any risk of being picked off and showed PLENTY of arm strength. Also felt like a number of them had receivers not quite getting out clean so not convinced all on Book. Will be interesting to see that play out the rest of the season.

Boys are having fun - coach is going for it - amazing the difference in play calling when you have confidence in all three aspects of the game. However, BK was getting in to Polian a number of times (rightfully so) - not the first time either.

Targeting was the right call - consider our depth now versus @ Pitt when Tuitt was (wrongly) ejected. Team does not deflate b/c they know they have horses in the stable.

I was thinking this was the off week - not after Pitt. Still so much to work on that I think coming out flat is not likely. Maybe this depth thing pushes kids to show up every week or lose snaps?

Best team of my adult life. IMO, early 90s was the last time we had this complete of a team. We will see if they can stay on target but with kids like Dex savoring every snap no matter what - going to be hard for others not to show up for him.

This team is the first team in a long time that I feel like they play for each other. And not just offense playing for offense/defense playing for defense/etc, they seem to really have each other's backs across the different sides of the ball. It's pretty refreshing.

Yeah, I may have overreached with Zepellin. Maybe Kiss would be closer. And when I say underground, I mean not getting much radio play on the big pop stations or having top 40 hits on the pop(popular music)charts.

This team reminds me of Ara's and Lou's teams. Strong defense, strong QB play, offense that can run or pass. Both lines very good.

We said the same thing about last year's team at this point in the season. While I do agree, let's see how they close.

You might have but I didn't. One dimensional offense, concerns at safety (case has been argued that the B.S. NCAA denying Gilman's release cost us a playoff run), poor depth overall... Last (and previous) year's hype was hope based. 2012 was hope based - hope our defense could carry the entire season and nobody would get hurt. What is the last team that has looked legitimate Top 25 on both sides of the ball? And this one was not there until week 4.

We knew Jayson A was going to be an impact player but didn’t know about Justin. Glad to be proved wrong. He looks the part physically already as a true freshman. Excited for him and Ade O as our ends once the ‘16 class leaves.

I always liked Justin more than the services did, nice to see him making plays already. Played at a good program against good competition. Fairly advanced prospect with a lot of training.

Definitely giving some confidence to what the 20' DL will look like. 5th year Ade O. Seniors MTA/Hinish, with Juniors Jayson, Justin and Franklin. Sophomores in Nana, Cross, Spears, Lacey, and player to be named later. 3 of which will have had 4 complete camps as they are EE's. Good looking, layered, depth chart.

I think one of the big differences is this team seems to have that killer instinct. Khalid Kareem gave a pretty great quote after the VT game.

“That’s our goal with any quarterback we faced,” said Kareem. “We want to get him rattled in the pocket as much as we can and let’s find out who the backup quarterback is.”

https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/7457/kareem-pleased-with-fight-from-irish/1

That's a great line.

He's not listed in the program?
