I was actually a bit surprised and almost impressed that the Colts were as competitive as they were. Having said that, there was never a moment in the game where I felt worried about the outcome. Even if the Colts were given possession after the onside kick, and even if they had scored, I have no doubt that the Patriots would have done enough to win the game rather comfortably. I think the fact that they tried the onside kick, and the fake punt abortion, and went for it on 4th & G early in the game are all indicative of how the Colts see themselves in comparison with the Patriots.
Agreed. The Patriots offense shifted to "Blount left, Blount right, repeat" for large chunks of the second half.

So why didn't they then? All I've heard for six months was Pats were out for revenge and wouldn't stand for what the Colts put them through. NE would win by 25-50 points. There is no doubt NE played a better game and I don't disagree that the onside kick and that stupid attempt to draw the Patsy's off sides were an indication that the Colts felt they need to try something like that. Yet there was never a boat race here.

It's also nice that Kraft is such a lovable owner and would never do anything stupid.

Lol. Just because you are a fan of a chronically cheating franchise doesn't mean you get to redefine what a 'boat racing' is. The final margin was 7 points. Period. whether fan x feels the game is ever in jeopardy or not doesn't determine what is or isn't a boat racing.

My team blows, and I can admit it. Your team beat a horrific colts team by 7 points. That's actually pathetic. Enjoy, I guess.

Most Patriots fans are enjoying being 5-0 with the MVP favorite at QB believe me.

Hoping for Round 2 in Foxborough in January as Pats should be #1 seed and Indy is looking like the #4 seed. Would be nice to get the 8th win in a row over Indy.

Somehow I will find a way to enjoy my pathetic team (sick burn). I've never heard of a losing team shit talking a winning team because they didn't win by enough, but whatever makes you feel good. Obviously I wish the Patriots hadn't taken their foot off the gas in the 4th quarter and the Colts hadn't backdoor covered, but all seven point games aren't created equally and this game was never truly competitive. You can call it whatever you want.

You're going to be disappointed. If this clown car team manages to gather up the 6 wins required to win the division, they'll be dispatched in the wildcard round. You'll, have to wait until next year, sadly.

So this is the explanation from Colts Punter Pat McAfee on the trick play they tried against the Patriots.

Link to the video below:

Pat McAfee explains the fake punt play!

Sounds even worse to hear it all explained. The only team I've seen swap the punt team out for the offense to trick the D on 4th down with any regularity is actually the Patriots, so I don't really know why they thought it would fool them of all teams. They've had times running it (Denver game last year) where the refs even gave seemingly extra time to allow for the defense to do proper substitutions. To the point where Brady was livid with the refs. The play is below. You can watch that play one time and realize it's not going to work against the Patriots. They know better than any team that there is no point in panicking in that situation and getting extra men on the field.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/81cHReZ4ZoQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

They've been working on this since last year? And they didn't prep for an injury? And they have 6 guys line up off the line of scrimmage because 1 guy does so? And the "QB" went under center which would only maybe be advantageous on 4th and 1? And there was something added for this "QB" to try and draw NE offsides? Like they're going to be fooled by a hard count by some special teamer? It's almost better to hear nothing about this play than to hear a player try and justify the call.

Like it said in that Yahoo Belichick article I posted here yesterday: there is a strong pattern of teams doing very stupid things against the Patriots.

My fan base wasn't the one guaranteeing 50 burger. [shrug]

The objective is to win the game. I'm sure if the fans were calling the plays, maybe there were another couple scores to be had, but the coaches decided to try to avoid any more injuries once they were comfortable the result was no longer in question. As a fan, I appreciate their big picture thinking and not getting caught up in the moment.
