I don't see Brent sticking either, and I think there is a good chance Procise goes pro.

That leaves 3, 2 of which will have had knee surgery.

On the other hand, we have 1 billion WRs.

So in your scenario, Folston isn't serviceable next season? Adams who will be two years removed from his and productive as a freshman is of concern? Also, Prosise in his first season at RB will be going pro?

I must say that I disagree with all of those assumptions. 6 scholarship RB's is not a depth issue, plain and simple.

Lastly, even in this very weird and made up scenario we'd still have Folston, Adams, Williams, and Tony Jones Jr. So your math is wrong and that makes 4.

I think that Folston was more than serviceable going into this season, but he's obviously not now. I worry about him and Williams going forward, just like I worry about any players with previous serious injuries. We'll need some good kids coming in.

As far as Tony Jones, I think he's kind of a mystery. He's averaging 3.3 yards per carry in high school. Plus, we have some recent of losing our early RB commits. I'm not sure how much I'm counting on him yet.

And I do think Procise could go pro if he has a very good year.

So my scenario is that if one of Adams or Folston is injured again next year, we basically have swapped out Procise for TJ Jr. That is a good, but not great rotation, when compared to our riches at Wr. I'd rather have an extra option there than backing up Hunter Jr./Procise at slot.

I want Stovall. Has a chance to be what Carlise was supposed to be. That being said, I want Alloway too. Redshirt him and then you have a two year separation between him and Sanders.

I'm never gonna worry about scholarships again. I'm going to employ my Christmas strategy from when I was an 8 year old... Circle everything I want in the Sears Christmas catalog and hand it to my parents. If I get half of it, I'm set.

This post is more about being skeptical about skill rather than depth. The first post was we need RB depth in a bad way, that simply isn't true as of now.

If what you're saying is we need different skill sets at RB, then I'd agree as I think Stovall could be a good player down the road in this system.

IMO, for a team that wants to be in the playoffs, I don't think you really have depth unless the back-up can play at a high level.

But I will fully concede that my viewpoint probably made more sense before Texas.

Now that Williams and Adams seem like pretty sure things, and Folston will definitely be back, we'll probably be fine next year even if we lost Procise. So that's a good thing.

Still, I'd rather sacrifice another pure WR (knowing we have a chance at McKinnley and Robertson), than another RB.

Do we know for certain Folston will be back?

I agree though if we can manage to keep Brents RS on then we have 4 Rbs and can take Robertson and McKinley. I would take them any way.

Nothing's certain. But seems far more likely Folston's back next year than either scenario in which he isn't (MCL tears generally aren't career-ending, and he doesn't have the resume to go pro yet). Right?
As for Prosise, I guess it's possible he jumps, but he'd have to put up quite a year to be a top-three-round pick (which is the only thing worth jumping for), especially as this weird tweener whose played three positions in three years. His versatility is great for us but will hurt him in the plug-and-play NFL. I think he's back next year.
Assuming that, redshirt Brent if possible. Figure out if he's actually going to stick, and slow play any surplus RBs.

Ok. I was not sure if it was explicitly stated so far and air missed it.

Will decide at the Army AA game on January 9th. Will give the college of his choice a silent commit one month before hand. Then plans to early enroll 1 week after his commitment. I really like the idea of him being an EE.

The game is January 2nd and the semester does not begin until January 12th. Plenty of time in between if he has silently committed and has his academics in order.

edit - NVM was thinking the Under Armour AA game

Are you still as confident about our RB depth for next year?

Per BGI, ND feels more confident with Stovall at this point than Alloway. Changing their view, now wanting a guy that is more comfortable coming out of the backfield.

If it's an either or.... definitely. Stovall is a RB that wants to get slot experience or moved there eventually for his future after college one would assume. Alloway's listed as a APB but he's really a slot/special teams/athlete. He plays with the nation's #2 RB Stephen Carr so he doesn't get traditional carries out of the backfield like Stovall. Alloway is CJ Sanders part II. CJ will be a sophomore next year while the player who Stovall most closely compares to on the current roster, Amir Carlisle will be gone of course.

What's sad is, if they both would've chosen to come to South Bend but Alloway is left out because there currently isn't a spot for him... only to later have the yearly injury/transfer/academics open up that spot that would've been his scholarship.

Hopefully if they both want to come, they find a way to take it happen. Although I'd like to think the Irish could someday be in a place to pass on a Top 150 overall, 4 star athletes with the flexibility to play RB/WR/PR/KR/CB, I'd hate to lose that kind of potential because the spot isn't there now.

The former USC commit has the ability to play running back, slot receiver or corner in college and should also see action early on punt and kick returns.
He played more running back than receiver at the H.S level but catches the ball very naturally and probably projects best as a slot in college. He's a true home run hitter and a threat to score from anywhere on the field.
On the recruiting front, Stovall took his first official visit to Notre Dame back in early September and has finalized a few more trips as well.
"I'm going to Utah next weekend (Oct. 17)," Stovall said. "We have a bye next so it works out well and I'll be able to spend the whole weekend there. I also have Arizona set for (Nov. 14) and I'm close to finalizing a trip to Boise State for (Oct. 24).
"I'm also planning to take an unofficial visit to Cal on (Oct. 31) and I want to try and get down to Arizona State for a game this season as well. I already visited ASU once during the summer and did the whole campus tour but I want to get down there and see a game."
There was some thought that Stovall could make a quick decision following his visit to Notre Dame but Stovall plans to go through the process.
"I have to make sure I'm doing the right thing here," Stovall said. "I need to take all my trips so I make sure I'm making the right decision, I don't want to rush anything this time around.
"Notre Dame was a great visit, it's a great program with a great staff and they're still very high on my list. I just want to see some other places to have something to compare them with. My plan is to make my decision at the Army AA Game in January but I'll probably let the school I'm committing to know ahead of time to make sure I have my spot locked in."

Lancaster (Calif.) Paraclete athlete Melquise Stovall took his second official visit of the year this past weekend when he checked out Utah.

Former USC commit Melquise Stovall hasn't wasted much time being pro-active on the recruiting front. He has already visited Notre Dame and checked out Utah this past weekend.

"I had a lot of fun, it was a great trip," Stovall said. "The game, watching them play against ASU was the best part of the visit for me. I loved the game atmosphere, the crowd was really in to it and we got to see a great game.

"It was a little cold and rainy but that didn't bother me, I was very comfortabe there. I like the offense at Utah and feel I would fit in really well there. They said they want me 80% as a slot and 20% at running back and that's how I would like to be used. I loved the facilities too, the whole campus was nice but the football facilities were really nice and top of the line all around."

Stovall said he bonded well with the players and coaches on the trip.

"I like the coaching staff at Utah a lot," Stovall said. "Coach Stubblefied, the WR Coach, is my primary recruiter and he's a great guy and I like Coach Whittingham a lot as well. Tyler Cooperwood was my host and all the guys on the team treated me really well.

"It was a lot different from the Notre Dame visit. That was a great visit too and my first time in the Midwest but I liked it a lot at Utah and felt very comfortable. I knew some of the guys on the team already and being on the West Coast, it felt like home for me. I think Utah is definitely a school I would be comfortable at for the next four years of my life and I'm definitely giving them a hard look."

Stovall is also considering Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State and Cal for his remaining visits.

His sister today said that he "loved" his visit and all the love they showed him while on his visit. Mom also seems to be on board with him ending up in Utah...As with the other updates that have been posted, don't see us ending up with him at the end of the day.

I just don't know how hard ND is pushing for a commitment here so maybe the love isn't the same between teams like Utah and ND

I think its a combination of this, Utah is going all out for him, and that he really wants to EE and as of now can't at ND.

Pretty small kid at 5'8" 177lbs. Four stars must mean he's really fast. Maybe he'll have a change of heart when USC smacks the Utes around. lol
