Rudolph "gave" #9 to Nix, who gave it up and switched to #1 to let Jaylon have it. I'd say that Jaylon was just trying to get him to feel the love, and that this has nothing to do with whether Jaylon stays or goes after this season.

How can an offensive player give his number to a defensive player?

It was widely reported that Rudolph passed on his number to Nix. One player "gave" his number to another player ... what difference does it make who played offense and who played defense as long as there was not another #9 on defense?

I get what you're saying, but Jaylon can always pull a Jimmy Clausen and just come back later to finish his degree. Is there any harm in that? Yeah, it would come out of pocket, but he'd almost certainly have the money to come back one season and finish his work.

As for Michigan State coming up next year. I really am not worried. They've looked really beatable this year, and their best player, Connor Cook will be gone, so they're gonna break in a brand new QB. They're already feeling the loss of Narduzzi. How can nobody feel good about a LB corp of Coney, Morgan, Tranquill, Martini, Onwualu, Barajas, Onwualu and Bilal? It's mind boggling.

Call me crazy, but that's not exactly mind-boggling. Akin to you calling Trumbetti an "elite athlete" coming into this season.

Keep in mind that not one of those guys has been able to beat out a gimpy and one-handed Joe Schmidt, who is playing below-average football and as much as I love him, has been a liability almost the entire year. And we lose the best LB in college football. There's good reason for concern.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but never underestimate the ability of a coach to fall in love with well-disciplined, well-motivated, super-smart, effort player. Joe Schmidt is a hard kid to demote when you are 12-2 with him starting (Clemson, FSU).

I feel pretty good with that core moving forward... I get the middle linebacker spot right now... but surely you can get two/three solid linebackers out of that talented of a core. I'm also certain the MLB play will be better, simply because dafaq can it get worse?? ;)

Thank God Jaylon was born in Indiana, he's going to be a major loss next year but if he wants to pull a Manti and come back I have no problem with that. But if he wants to leave who could be mad at him? He will still come back and get his degree at some point and I couldn't be more thankful for what he has done. But does anybody think our LB group could be upgraded as a positional group next year? Not to rip anymore on Joe Schmidit because you can't question his heart or story but it's just not working. Coney and Martini will be an upgrade and the LB core is just loaded with talent. I think Bilal will have Jaylon Smith moments because they are similar athletes...ok not really but Asmar is gonna be really good. Then we add Daelin Hayes hopefully, he will be a damn good football player for us as long as he stays healthy. Really excited about the future of the LB core.

I honestly think they have similar closing speed, but Bilal doesn't have the same size or strength.

I noticed that a lot on film, a lot of major college programs wanted Asmar, John Cavis loves smaller linebackers who can run and he went all the way to Indiana to offer Amir that's pretty telling. I think many people have forgotten about him and I think he's gonna be a big player for us.

Completely shallow opinion by me:

Next year we will have an outstanding linebacker named Martini. Where he plays will be the mystery [I am rooting for the MIKE]. Then we will have a surprising flowering of a veteran linebacker named Onwualu. All of a sudden he will be all over the field stuffing things up on the wide sides. So then what?

Coney, Tranquill, Morgan, and complete rookies [who are however good potentials]. I'm thinking Coney who has looked good in his spots this year. Tranquill will stay mostly as a strong safety. The local crowd favorite will either pleasantly surprise me by rising to his five star potential, or sliding onwards to Steve Filer status.

Even if my non-Morgan scenario is true, then we'd still be very good as a unit, and who knows how good Barajas might be? If a true MIKE {I'm talking headhunter instincts here}, then Martini can shine on the edge somewhere. But there is almost no hope that the unit without Jaylon will be able to be as overall good as the current one [even with our current limitations], as Jaylon, when he's right, can ruin an opponent's entire plans.

I feel like he wants to stay close to home, so the only one that worries me is the OSU visit.

Some pretty cool edits by ND sent out to recruits post OV's. For those that are twitter savy maybe post them in the recruits threads.
