As soon as I saw the bowl ND drew, I started looking at going to the game. Tickets aren't bad; you can get lower tier 40 yard line for $200. But the travel costs will kill you. I looked at flight, hotel, and car rental for 2 days for my wife and I. Over $1000 on Expedia and everything booking up fast. Yeesh.

Im tempted to drive down for it. I doubt I will. But could be fun.

Man, I guess I don't see it. LSU is not good offensively.. We shut down their rushing attack and they struggle. I think BW gets right and we win 24-7

If the team that shows up against usc and michigan state we win big, if the team shows up against miami and Stanford we lose big

LAX, we need to get you re-energized brother. Get some optimism in that football life.

I don't think we're going to win, but I think it will be a battle.

Right now, it wouldn't shock me if Long and BK are going to use the next four weeks to completely retool the offense, like they did for Zaire in '14 before an LSU bowl game. QB powers, reads, triple options... I hope we see it all.

If they can do that and manage some first downs and sustain a couple of drives, it will be a battle, because I think Elko will come up with just enough to slow down LSU's RB's.

I'm thinking it's going to be a 28-24 type of dogfight. It gets that high because Canada will have enough new wrinkles to foil Elko at times, and Long/BK will have enough wrinkles to foil Aranda at times.

Hoping that the several weeks in between now and the bowl game allows us to heal up and refocus our energy. The boys need to finish this season with a bang. This idea of playoffs or bust seems to be terrible for the team because once they know they aren't going, they check out mentally. It cannot be that way. They need to play for God, Country (Family/Team), and Notre Dame.

We shouldn't necessarily count on it, but we've seen BK and coordinators come up with a great game plan before. It could happen again.

Or maybe Orgeron's heart gives out from the 7 energy drinks he has every day and LSU cancels the bowl game

Wonder if Danny Etling grew up an ND fan? Nobody grows up in Indiana wanting to play football at IU or Purdue.

Hard to believe he was a starter at Purdue in 2013... when Tommy Rees was the starter for ND. He lost to Golson the next year in Indy going 27-40 for 234 yds, 2 TD's and thankfully 2 Int's.

Except possibly Bob Griese ... from Evansville to West Lafayette. :)

This is prolly the worst matchup outsid eofnan NY6 game we could’ve gotten. I think that LSU is just better than us in all positions. Couple thatbwih our bad luck playing in florida and the end year is not gonna be too happy for us. Hopefully BK can put something together.

I don't understand all the doom and gloom in this thread. I have read you guys saying you don't want a joke football team in the bowl game, then we get a quality opponent and it turns to "oh my god, we are going to get smashed."

It doesn't help that the head coach just came out and said the players were emotionally drained before Stanford and had "no juice."

If you aren't fired up for your rival in the last game of the year, with playoff/big bowl implications, then why be up for LSU in Orlando?

I've never thought about this but I'd guess Griese was 100% an Irish fan growing up. He was a 3 sport star athlete at Rex Mundi Catholic and Evansville is a very Catholic town. He lived in my family's neighborhood and played legion ball with my uncle through high school. I think the reason he went to Purdue was Dave Schellhasse who is a year older than him. Griese played basketball with him at Purdue, that coupled with him graduating in '63... the year ND was in transition from Devore to Ara. Maybe he slipped through the cracks because of that.

I'll have to ask my uncle about this when I'm in Evansville over the holidays. Maybe I'll be able to add him to the ND was their dream school thread.

It's all the snowbirds that spend their winter here after summering on NDNation.

(And basically every other ND message board I've ever been on for that matter.)

I don't understand all the crying on this thread, we got LSU I think we matup with the well. Would you rather have Oklahoma State they would score 60 on us. I wanna play the toughest team possible, some of you would cry about any team we got matched up with.

Not me, I want Notre Dame to keep playing opponents that can punch us in the mouth until we learn how to fight back. The team has to learn how to deal with adversity at some point.

Ummm yeah..........all that will get them is thrown into juvie until they are 18 and then UND football becomes a max security Lifer.

getting punched in the mouth a lot has never solved anything.

Now ...........not getting punched in the mouth....that where success lies. You ever see Floyd Mayweather get punched in the mouth? Look at his $$$$$.

You think Bama is regretting its mercer decision today??

They only get 15 practices over those four weeks.

What have you seen in the month of Novermber to give you confidence that ND will keep this close...much less win? It’s not pessimism, it’s realism.

We’ll have plenty of time to prepare and get healthy. I think LSUs offense plays into our Ds hands.

I think it will be a closely contested game that could go either way.

Yeah there were better match ups, but worse ones too.. depends on what team shows up, if we can get healthy, and if we make any adjustments at all offensively.

I think the first two make work for us, that last one, not so much. Could go either way.

I'm actually with IrishfanJMercy...

I saw an early projection that had ND vs Oklahoma State in a bowl game, and immediately said "oh no."

LSU is a much better matchup than some other teams, especially stylistically... both ND and LSU are teams that will lean on the run, both teams have some nice wins on their resume, both teams have some real stinkers on their resumes, and both teams have glaring issues holding them back.

It should be a nice battle. Whoever fixes their issues the best over the next four weeks will win.

This is basically another Stanford game (run game, decent QB, good D) except LSU doesn't go jumbo all the time. If LSU throws like Stanford did we may be in trouble. If we play with some pride, we can win.

Despite the incessant whining from the ndnation wannabes on this site, Vegas doesn't agree. They see a competitive game.

Sagarin's RECENT model, which reflects the MIA and Stanford turnover turmoil, has ND -1.

The game opened in Vegas at LSU -1 and has moved to LSU -2.5 to -3 at one casino.

Predicting 41 bowl games and College Football Playoff national championship

Citrus Bowl Presented by Overton's: No. 14 Notre Dame vs. No. 17 LSU

(1 p.m. ET on ABC at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida)

Things came together nicely for Ed Orgeron and the Tigers down the stretch, while Notre Dame fell apart. This isn't the game for Notre Dame to fix its passing-game issues. LSU will seal the win with a late interception.

Prediction: LSU 28, Notre Dame 24

I like playing SEC teams. It gives Notre Dame some fortitude.

This team doesn’t need a “soft” confidence builder.

It needs to win confidently again versus a good opponent.
