I wonder of they will even accept his LOI?

This is really weird.

LOl whats the bet his offer wasn't even actionable? :D
24/7 shows he received an offer from UGA on February 3. Also, I will say this. I have been to a lot of college towns, particularly in the SE and Athens is a surefire top 5 college town all-around. No need to visit or to see it. Anyone can have a ball in Athens.

What does that say about Georgia's academics. HAHA

While it does not say much for their football team, and as much as it pains me to acknowledge something good at UGA, their academic standards have been on the rise for the better part of the last 15 years. It is growing more difficult to get in for even some of the top 5% in Georgia because so many more people are applying now. I hate UGA with a passion (went to GT so that explains this) but they are doing pretty well on the academic front.

Signs with a school he's never visited and had practically no contact ever with their coaches.... what a fitting ending.

Yep, and maybe it's too early but not sure I give two shits at this point. He made a joke his recruitment, basically embarrassed his coach, and now like you said has a fitting ending.

The amount of trolling this kid did the last few days has been amazing. Hope he gets his head right and makes the best of his opportunities.

So he basically had two hats on the table, and had someone bring him a complete wildcard one as he picked?

M Night Shaylaman directed this kids recruitment.

This is the proverbial trainwreck that we just can't turn our eyes from. We've seen some recriting twists and turns, but this is has to be top 5 all time.

Can confirm. The beer flows like wine.

Mark Richt's comments were borderline hilarious on ESPNU just now. Was asked about McKenzie and basically said, paraphrasing out all the coach speak, "well... he was friends with Sony Michel... and so we let him know maybe we'd have a spot for him... and then we did." Had absolutely nothing to say about him as a player/person/etc. but repeated that he was friends with Sony 3 times.

Made it sound like he has barely talked to the coaches there, and Richt knows little to nothing about the kid. I almost wonder if this was a favor to Michel since McKenzie had no other landing spots once ND/VT/UF/Ole Miss all pulling their offers.

Crazy. And I think the bolded is exactly what happened ... getting McKenzie gives Sony a friend from home at UGA and keeps him happy for as long as McKenzie is there.

If I were a literary person (which I am), I would note the symbolism of Sony Michel bringing the UGA hat to McKenzie at the signing ceremony ... an echo of Sony Michel bringing McKenzie the UGA offer.

My wife lived there for several years. We periodically decide we want to go somewhere for the weekend and Athens usually is the place we go. We grab some friends from Milledgeville and Greensboro and spend the weekend up there hanging out on College Street. The Georgia Bar was one of my favorite places in the world.

I mentioned this in a different thread but there is a picture on McKenzie's twitter from June 13th of last year where the caption reads. "Mine and Sony's first conversation ever." So I'm not sure that they are good friends and I really doubt Sony played that card with UGA. Just my opinion but for UGA, why not take him? There is zero downside. They didn't invest anytime or resources here and have given him zero expectations for playing time, position, etc. McKenzie however got himself into a situation where is now ending up at a school that literally could care less about him, at least thats what I've been gathering.

even if mckenzie was a favor to Sony it's not like he can't play in the SEC....the real question will be if he can cut it school wise...it'll help that he's in SEC country in that category rather than South Bend.

Four-star wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie told Brian Kelly during a late January in-home visit that he was coming to Notre Dame. Then, he and the Irish parted ways once the offer from Virginia Tech showed up last Wednesday and Notre Dame told him there was no spot for him unless he took his final official visit to South Bend. He was set to sign with Ole Miss upon returning from the Virginia Tech official until the Georgia offer arrived at 3:30 p.m. Monday. His connection with his teammate, four-star RB Sony Michel, and the support system in place in Athens for him proved to the ultimate deciding factor.

It is, but I wish the kid well, unless ND ends up facing off against GA somehow, then I hope he does nothing.. I really hope he succeeds in college and beyond, whether it be football, but especially outside of the game.
