I think there was miscommunication with athletics department people. Basically, from what I was told, when they asked when hearing would occur they got answers like "immediately after the investigation completes" or "very quickly after we have all the facts." Which to them meant it would be resolved in a couple days to a week after the official close of the investigation. Which appears to be an incorrect assumption.

At this point, I'm hoping we get clarity on the players involved in short order and get reinstatement/expulsions done and move on with the season. And then don't make any formal release of findings or other announcements until we've gone through a long collaborative effort with the NCAA to find out what games (if any) need to be vacated... and hopefully that announcement comes in March-June.

We all have to realize there are two components here:
1. The academic component, where honor committees have to determine both culpability and punishment of individuals. This has little to no intersection with the athletics save whether a student is separated from the university or eligible to participate.
2. The athletics aspect, which is parsing the information they've got and determining how this applies to past games, etc. This is all handled by the compliance/athletics department.

The surprising part, to me, is that no one has any idea when this honor committee meets...which is baffling. Seems like there would be someone on that campus that can answer that.

The second part of that is, what is their process? Do they hear the complaint against the athletes and render a decision, or do they hear the complaints, take some time to contemplate action, and then render a decision in the future. Two distinct process that have much different time lines, no?

The only thing that has truly bothered me about this entire situation in terms of how it's being handled is the fact that BK said the administration told him early last week that there would be a resolution "quickly." To me, that means a week or less. So either someone lied to BK or there has been a complication.

Right, the process seems to have stalled, and that is what's frustrating. I'm not someone who is going to demand that we accelerate the process because football, but the process does need to keep moving just in basic fairness to the players. Hopefully it is moving and we will hear today at least that a hearing has been scheduled, or something to indicate that progress is being made. It's been radio silence since last Thursday.

I didn't read through the last 6000 posts. What is this thread about?
1. Butthurt (general)
2. Catch-all place to ask questions that have been answered 87 or more times
3. Butthurt (specific)
4. Catch-all place to repeat rumors and call them fact
5. As a fun twist on #4, catch-all place to make things up and call them rumors
6. By the transitive property of Nos. 4 and 5, catch-all place to make things up and call them facts.

The process (at least for a typical case) is pretty darn concrete.

The only thing I can say for certain is that my guy basically admitted to me this weekend that while he (and others) were under the impression that things were headed a certain direction (mostly from what the students in question were relaying... presumably from what they were told during the investigation process)... that it's pretty obvious now that they were all mistaken and no one really knows the timeline definitively and when we'll hear something. He was also NOT optimistic about any aspect of it, though I still wouldn't be shocked to see a specific player or two reinstated potentially.

Ok, today will be the day. Right?

Right?

While I hope I'm wrong we've all seen that the university considers this an academic issue. They will release the information not the football coach.

Interesting. Being so far away from campus, I don't have any insight to any of this. But as an academic professional at a major university, we have processes in place, obviously, for situations like this. I cannot imagine anything ever taking that long here. Certainly when everything is gathered by the professor and we turn it over to the "higher ups" it moves quickly, mainly because you don't want the student sitting in limbo about their future. This creates an undue financial burden if he/she is going to be expelled, and it keeps them from finding a community college to transfer to in order to continue their studies.

That ND has been so slow so, from an academic perspective, is surprising. If they are indeed gone, they have missed a window to enroll elsewhere to stay on track to meet future requirements and graduate in a timely manner.

I hear they meet on the second tuesday of this week.

That's weird. I hear they meet on the 3rd Tuesday following the vernal equinox, but only if Mercury and Venus are in alignment with the Sun.

They ought to just simplify things and schedule an annual meeting on February 29th.

You are all wrong. They meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows.

I can take another stab at this...

So two weeks ago, BK announces that the investigation is over. It would then have gone to the Chair of the Honor Committee (HC) and the Faculty Representative to make a determination as to whether or not there was reason to move forward. That would have been Michigan week.

If the decision was to move forward, then the hearing should be at the next scheduled meeting. We can assume that would be this week. After this meeting they can render a decision, which could come at some point after the meeting.

Then the student has the ability to appeal the decision.

Sticking with this, I guess it makes sense why Brey said that the process took three weeks for Grant (?). The first week they determine to move forward, they met the second week, and perhaps appealed the week after. So, this week should hold a meeting and a decision to appeal could come thereafter.

Can someone explain this to someone who recognizes nothing in this post other than Brey, who's the ND basketball coach I believe?

less outside pressure on ND to resolve 'quickly' now with the big meatchicken win, purdue up next, followed by a bye and then syracuse

This segment on The Herd is wonderful so far. Colin basically opening with "are there recruits who are too stupid to go to ND?"

BK says they're close to where the hearings should be this week.

[EDIT] Res beat me to it

BK has no clue what's going on either... honestly, football fandom aside, this is beyond ridiculous how long these kids have been left hanging.
