depth chart is overrated imo unless a kid flat out says that early p.t. is important to getting him.

bama should not get a 4-5 star RB for the next 5 years if that were always the case.

while i get the overall point, if I were him, id only be concerned with 1 persons future. If i felt i could succeed at a school then why do i care about the other players? Thats when the schools reputation comes into play for life after football. Can i feel confident ill find a job after graduation if Im not in the NFL? If so then theres not much more you can do with that kind of pitch

Its easy to say we (Bama/SEC) recruit idiots and ballplayers, but thats them, it doesnt have to be you

Good point, and it's interesting to think about. Paradoxically, our academics/graduation rate pitch may work better on weak (but motivated) students who will be particularly interested in the support we provide our athletes. You might think that someone like, for instance, Anzalone or Jordan Sherit, with a four-point-something GPA and an all AP/IB schedule, is the quinessential ND student, but you also have to consider that a kid like that has always been the smartest kid in the room and figures he always will be, no matter where he goes to school, so he's not scared by the fact that the football team's academic numbers aren't great, as long as he knows that SOME people on the team are going on to be successful in their careers.

Young men with extremely good common sense and judgement realize that being a fish out of water, an odd duck, swimming upstream against the tide is extremely difficult and very often self-defeating. If you go to "football u" - many of the people you spend a tremendous amount of time with - your teammates - do not care about getting an education, actually getting up in the morning and actually going to class and actually studying. They only want to play football, get ready for their multi-million dollar NFL contracts, go out at night and PARTY.

You tell your teammates you can not go out with them tonight because you have got to study. At "football u," you are a wuss, a geek, an outsider, you don't fit. If you are a great player they will TOLERATE you despite the fact you are a brainiac. If you are not a great player, your teammates will let you know you don't belong and question why you are there. You will not be happy.

Famous last educational words - "I know that 'football u' does not have a very good graduation rate, that their players - even if they do get degrees - do not get meaningful or valuable degrees, and that their players do not generally go onto successful careers outside the NFL, but I will be the exception, I will ignore the environment all around me and I will be an outstanding student who will put in the long hours of studying and work necessary to accomplish this, while my teammates are out having fun, partying and "dating" lots of women."

The coaches at "football u" do not care about your education. You are a football player. Coaches will punish you if you schedule any class or do anything academically that interferes with football. All the bs coaches told you about "football u's" great degree program in (fill in the blank) evaporates whenever academic demands of the degree program conflict with football and you have to abandon that program.

Wise parents who want their sons to have successful LIVES understand this. At Notre Dame, you are expected to go to class, to study and to succeed academically. At Notre Dame, if you do not care about getting an education, actually getting up in the morning and actually going to class and actually studying you are the fish out of water, an odd duck, swimming upstream against the tide. If you just want to play football, get ready for your multi-million dollar NFL contract, go out at night and PARTY, you will be a outsider and you will not fit at Notre Dame. Wise parents understand that having their son attend a university where academic success is demanded, is the norm and is expected greatly increases their son's chance for succeeding academically and having a successful life.

So if Allen wants to be a surgeon, what school boasts one of the highest student acceptance rates into medical school?

They'll probably tell them about my wife's niece, the M.D., who graduated from UA. They'll point out she's a Fellow at Tulane.

I'm sure they'll neglect to mention that she had to go the University of Grenada Med School because she couldn't get in a U.S. med school. Or, that she's, 35, still in school, and has amassed about $500K in unforgivable student loans.

I'm sorry, what school was that again with I believe the top if not one of the top couple acceptances into med school?

And Tulane doesn't suck. It is one of those good med related schools. (I know this shiit because one of my neigbors is a Dean at UTMC, and they are sensitive to pulling students from good schools. She once commented on UofM, and said that they had been a fine school that had fallen a bit off of their mission. Just as an interesting aside.

Hey, let's not bag on St. George's University (the med school in Grenada), it's where I'm at haha. There are kids from a lot of good schools here - Ivies, ND, scUM, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, etc. It's getting harder and harder to get into med school nowadays, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to reach your goal of being an MD. And your niece is proof that you can get a good MD education at SGU - Tulane's a pretty good med school.

I think you made his point for him though. Not that SGU is a bad school. But that the ability to get into med school at all is growing more difficult, so you really WANT to be coming from some of the more prestigious universities in order to get through admissions. And there are many schools whose premed programs just don't have the same standards as the upper tier of academic institutions.

ISD's Sean Mele lists Allen as our top QB prospect:

I spent a lot of time watching Allen at a Nike Football Training Camp in Illinois a couple of weeks ago and he’s a really nice player. He has tremendous arm strength, great mechanics, and quick feet. He was throwing on the run and in the pocket and was right on the money with a majority of his passes. It was a very windy day and hardly any of his throws were affected.

Allen seems like he has the ‘it’ factor that you want from a quarterback – confidence, rifle for an arm, can put it in tight windows, and he makes everyone around him better. He’s a true leader on the field and was named the most valuable quarterback for the camp. I stood right next to him on several occasion and he’s no taller that 6-foot-3. He’s also bit on the thin side, but he’ll bulk up over time. I believe he’ll be a tremendous college quarterback in the years to come.

Spoke to Rob Cassidy (rivals) about the Alabama offer. Was excited but in Cassidy's mind not as excited as some others have been about an Alabama offer. Allen said that he thinks he'll try and check it out on a visit but nothing set now. Plans to trim his list as soon as this weekend. With a mid-June visit planned to ND, it seems we'll make the cut. Also will be deciding before the season but not exactly sure when.

ISD's Christian McCollum just published an article on Allen:

Allen has grown a few inches in the last year and now checks in around 6-foot-3, and 200 pounds.

“That growth spurt was huge,” Gile said. “I think that helped out tremendously because now he has the size and he’s the total package.”

The legit frame may be the last piece to the puzzle for the talented prospect.

...

“To be honest, I haven’t seen anyone like him. He’s probably the best quarterback to ever come out of Arizona, ever.”

Visiting June 10-11 after The Rivals Camp. BTW he's done his homework about the NCAA rules and knows he'll have to pay his way

Crystal Ball isn't a joke, Bunting and Bars were two of the worst cases they've had so far, just happen to be ND related. You also have to know who to pay attention to, Wiltfong is like 95% correct so far.

Besides Allen and Lazard, I believe a few more targets participating in the Rivals Challenge will make the trek to South Bend. A few possibilities - Natrel Curtis, Johnnie Dixon, Malachi Dupre, Thomas Holley, Jalyn Holmes, Tyler Luatua, Josh Malone, Damien Mama, and John Smith.

hey guys, Cal Bears fan here, been creeping on this board for a while.

just wanted to see what's your feelings on the chances of landing Kyle Allen? i'd hate to see him end up at fUCLA and Allen's decision is likely going to shake up the QB recruiting landscape, including for Cal...
