Professor: Nathan, why are you late to class and your shoes are sopping wet?

Nathan (made-up student): Oh, it's cause I'm white.

"James, why are you getting mud all over my classroom?"

"Sorry Mrs. Teacher, I forgot to check my shoes like I forgot to check my privilege."

I think all white students in America should, in a gesture of solidarity with their persecuted brothers and sisters in Beserkely, be 15 minutes late to every class. They should then refuse to sit, instead kneeling through class, like this white guy...

Kaepernick-Kneeling.jpg

Or stand defiantly with fists raised just like Tommy Smith and John Carlos did in '68... only now wearing a white glove like this white guy is doing.

Shouldn't you be expelled for hate crime's?

Indeed folks who interfere with you going to class should be responsible for paying for the cost of that class....and yes, that is a crime, and it is racist.

...ahh, I recall my days of going to class. People blocking me might have been tolerated...depending on the class....:).

There is a time, and place for protests...I'd even shrug off if the protest was against white people...so long as I can choose to ignore it. If you choose to make me hear you as a toll to get to class, you may not like your payment.

I mean...folks are standing there what, ...holding hands blocking you...how many times can you hit a guy before he can even start to defend himself...3, maybe 4 times. I'll take on kimbo slice if you give me 4 for free...what is wrong with people? Why are they so afraid to apply physical means when physical means are applied to them? SMH.

all it takes is one kick to the midsection of anyone and that chain breaks.

But then you are the one at fault, and labeled a racist.

It also looks in the videos that those protesting were very ready to pounce on anyone who would defy them. Sad, but they would have severely outnumbered one student who would go at them.

So....what exactly is a safe space? What is stopping white kids from getting to class going to accomplish other than make a large majority of your peers very unsympathetic to your retarded cause?

It's a space for someone to feel safe. What's so hard to understand?!

I'm all for protesting. It's a right. I'm all for any citizens in the USA to call out problems within our society, there's plenty. I have a problem with students verbally assaulting others based on their skin color, and claiming that by being that color they are part of the problem.

I understand the concern about being labeled and such. But for people who are there on scholarship, with grade requirements, what folks think of them registers somewhere after academic performance I would think. I know I would not want to explain to my coach or my father that I missed class because of some protesters.

As well, its a matter of folks restraining me from doing something I want to do without having a badge/authority. Not something I'll ever tolerate anyway...and nor should anyone...ever, IMHO.

Why are people so afraid of physical confrontation? Clearly a guy going to class who gets shoved, or someone approaches him aggressively is WELL within his rights to defend himself...so I don't get the apprehension to do so. That video should have been FULL of scuffles...when do you claim YOUR rights, and when those infringing are using physical means...when do you reclaim them with physical means?

From a practical perspective...Had someone just KO'd that soft enforcer punk, I bet the seas would have parted...quickly.

Agreed. It's just very tough in a practical way to actually act on that because of the label. The world we live in won't care about why you did that, just that you acted out against these protesters so you're "wrong."

As well, its a matter of folks restraining me from doing something I want to do without having a badge/authority. Not something I'll ever tolerate anyway...and nor should anyone...ever, IMHO.

Again, it's tough. Have to tread lightly. We (general we) are stuck between having to stand up for our right to attend class, meetings, jobs, and appeasement.

People are afraid of physical confrontation for many reasons. One, we are taught now to not resort to it. Two, living in the digital age you can be made to look like the aggressor, plus you can have career aspirations dashed for being in the video "fighting these peaceful protesters." Three, mob mentality is a hard thing to go against. You are one individual going against multiple people. They were picking on singular white students as a group encircling them. That's intimidation tactics 101, and it's hard to fight your way out without back up.

From a practical perspective...Had someone just KO'd that soft enforcer punk, I bet the seas would have parted...quickly.

That gives these protesters fuel. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

See bolded

All really good points. Different world...

I worry about my kids, as over the last couple years I've begun to finally get them to not fear physical altercation. Avoid it...but when it is necessary...attack quickly and relentlessly.

Guess I better not retire until I can hand them a business, because I think faced with what I saw in a video...they'd fight...and sounds like they'd pay some career price :)

I thank the lord the world was not like this when I was in school...

pretty sure I'd have had a hard time getting a job, beyond the general crappiness of the economy..:(.

I can't even begin to process the stupidity on this page (Not from the posters, the ridiculousness in the news articles). I hope I die before these kids are running the country.

Don't worry, they won't be the ones running the country. There are plenty of good "kids" out there. (this is what I tell myself anyway)

Didn't a "safe space" used to mean a foxhole? We had a good run, America.

So you're not bothered by overt racism being tolerated by a public university?

Of course. But that isn't what this thread is about. It's about bashing the stupidity of political correctness by calling out specific examples of said stupidity.

Could you see MLK returning to present times and commenting on the issues of today?

We were beaten at bus stops and lunch counters but we prevailed in peace and respect.

We were shot, hung, and disposed of in unhallowed ground but we persisted.

Our children were set upon by dogs, pummeled with fire hoses, and killed with bombs but we marched on.

Our students were banned from taking classes with other students and we righted that wrong. "Separate but equal" ... was not equal then, NOR IS IT NOW.

We fought "Segregation Now, Segregation Forever" as an abomination. It doesn't matter who preaches that doctrine ... it is still wrong.

Today's youth have taken up the challenge as did their parents and grandparents ...

"Safe Spaces"

"Microaggressions"

Are you kidding me?
