I'd be happy with both, but Cager's ceiling seems higher IMO. Still, ESB can ball out and has elite younger siblings coming down the line. Can't really go wrong with either.

I always scoped out the 6'5 four stars that were "balanced" with great 40 times. I always had the best WR's.

I think ESB is probably a little more polished at this point.

My long-winded guess is this:

1) We offered ESB first, when it was already clear that he was elite talent, but it wasn't yet clear if Cager was.
2) We built a very strong relationship with ESB.
3) ESB goes to Servite and has stud little brothers, so his recruitment sets us up with good recruits down the road.
4) We feel good about getting him and have invested a lot in him: he is a very well-known quantity.
5) Once Cager proved to be elite or near elite, we stepped in with him, BUT, Cager is not quite as proven AND has said that Ohio State was his dream school growing up...

So it seems like sticking the course with ESB, because he is the safer bet at this point, all things considered. PLus we need a little California drama in this class. Its an ND tradition.

If we got Cager instead, that would be great. He's a very good prospect.

So Loy posted today something he didn't mention when he got back from Cager's school. Basically Lawrence's HS coach told him that ND will be very tough to beat once Cager gets on campus. There is a strong following at his HS and the family likes what ND offers.

Does anyone know who has better speed between Cager and ESB? I can't find ESB's results from the Opening, but Cager was impressive. A half inch shorter, but posted a 39" vertical.
