Michigan, as a conference team, can lose OOC games win the B10 and go to the Playoffs. We have to be at least 11-1. It would be great to kick their asses again and again. But Harbaugh is not working on this. Just PR.

Looking at our future schedules, I'd eliminate '21 (FSU), '22 (Ohio State), '23 (Ohio State) because I would not want to add Michigan to those opponents. '17 OOC opponents are full for both.

Michigan will only play us in September. In '20 and '21 they have home and homes with Arkansas and Va Tech. In 2020, we have 9/19 open. Michigan is full. Michigan would have to give up Ball State and add us to Washington and Va Tech.
Michigan from '22 to '27 has home and homes with UCLA, Texas and Oklahoma so they don't want to add us.

That leaves only '18 and '19.
In 2018, we have 9/1 and 9/15 open. Michigan has 9/8 open. We play FSU that year - and a BiG, in Northwestern.
In 2019, we have 10/5 open (unless we move a Labor Day game to Sat, which gives a 9/7 opening). TV contracts signed? Michigan has 9/14 open. We play Georgia that year.

In addition to '22 and '23 (Ohio State), we play other BiGs in '24 & '25 (Purdue) and '26 & '27 (Michigan State). Maybe '28 & '29 for Michigan?

Besides, F*** Michigan.

I hope we never play them again for two reasons:

1- ND and UM playing only benefits them, there is nothing at all in it for ND.

2- screw them.

Playing them is fun and I honestly don't get as riled up about any other team but there is really no reason to play them as you guys have mentioned.

Not a fan of this. This benefits Michigan more than ND.

It's a dumb move for UM to schedule ND too. As long as OSU and MSU are at their current levels (and there is no indication that they are going to do a PSU belly flop)... if they win the B1G, they are in the playoffs with one loss 9 times outta 10.

Neither team needs the other, it's just a game that the people who make the rules want to happen it appears.

For scheduling and playoff reasons, playing Michigan is a sketchy move for us. But man oh man, do I LOVE ND-Michigan games. Was always my favourite and most anticipated day/game of the year. I don't want an over-loaded schedule but I also want to see this game again SO much that I selfishly want it to happen and it sounds like it will.
F#CK Michigan!

Frankly any team in any conference needs to be 11-1. This isn't a standard that ND specific. A 10-2 team needs to be pretty shiny, or other teams pretty medicore to make it.

I'd be surprised if any team at 2 losses got into the playoff. The only scenario I could see where that occurs is a conference champion takes the last spot, and there are no other conference champions with a better record.

If Michigan's the 12-1 B1G champ, they are getting in 9 out of 10 times (probably higher than 90%) as long as OSU and MSU remain who they currently are.

ANY power 5 team who is 11-1 and a conference champ is getting in. Everyone thinks this system will force ND to join a conference but the fact is an 11-1 ND team is getting votes. ND almost made it last year despite all the injuries we had and a freaking brain fart in coverage vs Stanford.

No guarantee that we get in outside of that Stanford game. OU was ahead of us already. Maybe the playoff committee would have felt our win over Stanford was more impressive than OU's final win over OK St. Stanford certainly felt like the better team between the two, but both were similarly ranked at that point in the season. I think I said about midway through the season that we had an excellent chance of getting into the playoff if we won out, and the only other 1 loss team that could get in over us was OU. People said I was crazy, but the fact remained they had the tougher schedule among the "good" Big 12 teams (Not necessarily tougher than us), and the meat of their schedule was in November. They had a strong finish, but it didn't really matter because we couldn't finish among the injuries.

I just read on r/CFB that Michigan has cleared Arkansas from their 2018 schedule in order to renew the series.

This is terrible news. Really stupid to add Michigan back on the schedule, game does absolutely nothing for us but hurt our chances of making the playoffs. And they're actually going to not suck now with Harbaugh... and even when they DID suck, they found ways to luck and/or cheat their way to victory.

Horrible, horrible move by Swarbrick & Co.

Kinda where I'm at. Maybe Harbaugh jumps after Pagano loses his job in Indy?

Totally agree. Helps them much more than us.

What?! It's our second biggest or maybe even biggest rivalry game. It adds so much to our national brand playing a big time game like that. If we hate playing good teams we shouldn't have scheduled Georgia or Ohio State. In the ever changing world of strength of schedule, adding one good team a year won't kill us. Jeez, this is great news. So glad the series is back on.
