Just talked to Anna basically distance is playing a factor and ND just has all the noise around his recruitment right now.

It's not secret his father LOVES ND
Mom really, really likes Clemson though and I don't know of any parents who don't like ND

Deciding soon, made his top six.

Also, two new CBs for the good guys from Ohio State and Louisville writers.

This would be both glorious and hilarious, at the same time. We could land Smith, Simon, and Lacey, right after the weak willed ND fans were ready to call it a recruiting cycle, lol. Gotta love recruiting and the drama queens that can't handle it.

Better not call Koon out just yet. You never know with these recruits.

Getting Simon and Lacey would calm my nerves for a minute. But that doesn't make the summer situations with Oweh, Austin Jr, or Burton any better. Oweh should be ours based on academic fit and depth chart, and visiting twice this summer. We should be able to close on a 3-star CB based on our CB recruiting when one visits from Georgia and is open to committing - I'm sorry. Austin's leaned towards ND for months, but won't pull.

That bothers me.

Yes, weak willed.

Plus, as we've went over before.

1. Austin has ALWAYS planned on a late summer (august) decision and taking OV's after that. He's literally been saying that the ENTIRE time. You are, literally, just making up things in that crazy dome of yours.

2. Similarly to Austin, Burton has said the ENTIRE time, he was going to take visits (see, that's plural, as in more than one). He wants to visit other schools, now that him and his dad have the time to do so, he's just following through on that.

3. Clearly Oweh isn't as worried about academic fit, as what was previously reported. Time to move on, just the way it is. How is that ND's fault? Because of 4-8, spare me that, we are and will be landing other quality players, in spite of that. Because they see the value in ND, not just a 4-8 season. So his decision came down to Football, football, Football, and distance (?, lol). ND is not going to win a lot of those recruitments. Belaboring the 4-8 point is extremely trivial at this point.

The staff is working hard and the pitch is getting home to some prospects. Give the season time to unfold before we throw in the towel. Nut up buttercup.

Hearing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

The Oweh thing was one of Koon's two reasonable points of frustration in the debate that happened last week... but after hearing Oweh's "distance is a factor" thing when it comes to ND, when he's considering OSU as a top option, means he was never REALLY an option in the first place.

It's just that no one knew it yet.

while koon has certainly voiced his frustrations with recruiting (some for good reason some maybe for not) I dont believe he had an issue with 2019 recruiting. So while timing of this potentially going well for ND could be ironic and funny, I dont believe it should be related to his complaints.

I think some of you are far too accepting of a kid having a manufactured reason for not coming to ND.

All of a sudden "distance is a factor" or "academics aren't a big deal" for Oweh, yet he wants to go to OSU and you cross him off as "what can you do about it if he has said-reason". Give him a reason to come here when he visits - overcome a concern be it distance, depth chart, fit, etc - great recruiters do this. There's very rarely an absolutely perfect fit for a kid at a school - you have to overcome objections with great recruiting. We should still win recruitments we get visits for when a kid fits only 90% of what we sell, we should still close better than we are IMO. We do not need them to be walking academic scholars who prefer 2-TE offenses/Indiana/Cold weather/etc.

Marquis Stepp may be a 100% fit for ND.
Jason Oweh/Thomas Booker/Donte Burton may only be a 90% fit. Does not mean we should not be landing them when we're making them a priority and they're paying to visit, and by all accounts, leaning towards ND.

This is what I feel the staff is failing to do with the likes of McGrone, Oweh, Burton, Austin, Booker, etc. And these are kids that in one way or another were ND leans, or close to being leans at one point.

Correct - I have no reason to be upset w/ 2019 recruiting yet. So if anyone wants me to beat them up over 2018 recruiting, let's go to the 2018 Master thread.

A lot of good stuff here that will be lost because it's OT in a player thread... which I found out is a very punishable offense. Apparently even mods get points added so you all are warned.

Back to Jacob Lacey...

Big brother showing the lil fella some love.

Jam's relationship with Jacob is just an added recruiting advantage for us. Love it.

Moved the majority of the commitment timeline talk to the 2018 Master List thread.

If you want to keep discussing it, carry it on over there.

BREAKING: Four-star DT Jacob Lacey commits to Notre Dame
Bowling Green (Ky.) South Warren four-star defensive tackle Jacob Lacey, one of the top players at his position in the 2019 class, has committed to Notre Dame.
Tom Loy

Bowling Green (Ky.) South Warren four-star defensive tackle Jacob Lacey, one of the top players at his position in the 2019 class, has committed to Notre Dame.

The 6-2, 300-pounder chose the Fighting Irish over offers from Clemson, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, Penn State, Michigan State and many others.

This is a big-time talent heading to South Bend in the class of 2019. Lacey has been the top defensive tackle target for Notre Dame since the Fighting Irish offered. He possesses a quick first step, tons of raw power and terrific hands.

Lacey's pledge gives Notre Dame two commitments in the class of 2019. The Fighting Irish landed quarterback Cade McNamara this offseason.

Head coach Brian Kelly was officially informed of Lacey's commitment Friday evening. Lacey reached out and told Kelly and defensive line coach Mike Elston that he was ready to shutdown his recruitment and commit to the Fighting Irish.
