My dad and I will be attending. First trip to South Bend. I'm so beyond happy I may cry.

Definitely catch up on all the gameday traditions and events on campus prior to heading to the game. I never catch all of them, but some things I always enjoy doing. For instance, I always follow the band in when they march down from the stadium before kickoff.

If I have the time I try to get a railing spot on the top floor in the Dome just before that and see the "Trumpets Under the Dome." It's amazing if you're up top and you can see all the fans packed in down below you, everyone cheering, etc. I unfortunately didn't get there in time for a railing spot last year, and there are better videos out there, but I took this one at the USC game. You can get an idea how loud and how many people now show up for this...gotta get there early, it's a rush and worth doing at least once even if you're only on the ground floor.

Meh, may not be embedding. Fair warning the audio is loud: https://www.facebook.com/nick.bartosic/videos/10153035687042827/?l=5362722491297799810

Goodness. That looks like a hoot. Pregame traditions seem to be a really big part of the FBS world.

If you can, the night before go to Drummers Circle at midnight on the steps of the Dome. Always a personal favorite.

Mildly disappointed it will be a night game. Football is better during the day.

The Biggest Question Mark For Stanford Heading Into 2016

Christian McCaffrey is a once-in-a-generation type of talent, humble yet confident enough to handle any sort of situation, and both delicate enough and explosive enough to make defenders fall over, untouched. He has a unique way of making players look like they've never played football before and voters look like they've never watched it before.

However, lost in the preseason hype build up for McCaffrey's 2016 Heisman campaign is that someone needs to block for him -- something that has become a huge question mark for the Cardinal coming into 2016.

The last time there was this much uncertainty on the offensive line was heading into the 2014 season, when Stanford had to replace three starters on the offensive front. Even though David Shaw called the unit the "most talented offensive line" he had ever had at Stanford, it was the stumbling block of the team. Despite having arguably the best defense in program history, Stanford crashed and burned while finishing 8-5.

The running game suffered, and going down with it was Stanford's offense. Sure, they settled in and worked out the kinks at the end of the season, rolling through the latter half of their schedule, but it came far too late. Instead of heading to Pasadena, they found themselves close to home at the Foster Farms Bowl.

Now, heading into 2016, Stanford will return just two starters on the line, Casey Tucker and Johnny Caspers. The expected departures of Kyle Murphy and Joshua Garnett and the unexpected departure of Graham Shuler has left a void to be filled on the offensive line and in leadership, something Stanford will need to replace if they want to repeat their 2015 success.

Stanford No. 1 in Pac-12 preseason media poll

AP 6:31 p.m. EDT July 15, 2016

All it took was three Pac-12 titles in four years for Stanford to finally get the nod in the preseason media poll.

It marked a first for the Cardinal in the 56-year history of the poll, having previously never been slotted higher than second in the Pac-12 North in the five seasons since adding divisional play and a title game, a span that coincides with head coach David Shaw's tenure.

...

Only two of the previous nine (preseason) selections actually won the Pac-12 that season.

Stanford nearly doubles David Shaw's compensation

Steve Berkowitz, USA TODAY Sports 3:59 p.m. EDT July 17, 2016
On Friday evening, Stanford’s new tax records showed that during the 2014 calendar year, football coach David Shaw was credited with nearly $4.1 million in total compensation — the highest for any Stanford employee not only in 2014, but also in any one of the seven years under the IRS’ current reporting system.

...

Shaw’s total for the 2014 calendar year — 4,067,219 — is close to double the amount reported for him for 2013 (just over $2.2 million). It’s almost four times the amount listed as Jim Harbaugh’s total for 2010, the figure included on the return Stanford filed in 2012.

...

Among private-school football coaches whose schools have made their tax returns public so far this year, Shaw’s total for 2014 vaults him into a range occupied that year by only TCU’s Gary Patterson (just over $4 million, including nearly $3.5 million in base pay) and former Baylor coach Art Briles (nearly $6 million, including more than $5.3 million in base pay).

...

I want to dismantle USC, as always. I want to make a mockery out of Texas in Texas to prove WE ARE ND. But most of all, I want to buttf&@$ Stanford. Not in a gay way, but pure dominance. Let's go IRISH.

Is it a coincidence that just after you find out David Shaw is worth double what we thought that you want to buttfuck Stanford, or are you the Vancouver Kardashian?

Well played NDFV, the seldomly used No Homo buttf@&#. Roy Hibbert would be proud.

...because that has ever happened this decade basically.

There is always a first for everything. They did a great job slowing down McCaffery last season, they just decided that they wanted to let Cajuste look like a first round pick. They have to replace a lot on offense so we will see.

I just feel like every year some people say we are going to destroy Stanford because they are replacing a bunch of guys and it never happens. I will be thrilled just to win by 1.

We all should be! I just think this year will be different because they have to replace a QB that started multiple years; that is a lot different than having to replace a running back or a couple receivers. Also, the 2016 Irish offense will probably be better than the 2015 offense and we all saw what the 2015 offense did to Stanford. I'll take Notre Dame at home, under the lights over Stanford by a couple touchdowns
