It is of my opinion that he should be somewhere where there are zero distractions...

Sort of agree. No matter where he goes he will be the former(and future?) starting QB for Notre Dame that was kicked out of school for academic reasons. If he plans on playing at a JC, there will distractions just based on that.

By the way, since Notre Dame doesn't take Juco players, how would this work?

I think the only way it works is if his ND credits transfer to a JuCo and he completes his AA in just one semester allowing him to transfer back to ND for the Spring semester. Another thought is he goes to a JuCo for classes and doesn't play football. I'm not positive though. Strange situation.

Thanks. And yes, it is a strange situation.

He can't go to a JuCo and then come back to ND though, right?. Hopefully he's just covering his bases. This could be bad.

For all we know, this may be part of the process ND has layed out for Golson to earn his way back.

By the way, since Notre Dame doesn't take Juco players, how would this work?

ND doesn't have a strict policy against taking JuCos; it's just that the vast majority of recruits who take the JuCo route usually can't pass admissions. Golson obviously did once, so he's an exception.

Sure he can. Nate Montana did it at Pasadena City College or whatever it was.

We don't take guys who went JUCO right out of high school and are trying to transfer into an FBS school. If one of our students gets suspended and wants to take JUCO classes while he serves his suspension, I can't see why that would be a problem.

Other caveat is his credits at RCC would have to be accepted back by ND ensuring he still graduates in 4 years... I'm sure That schedule will be preapproved

Just saw this on another board...Golson would be Honor Roll in the SEC

While I agree with all the comments and laughs following this initial post, I imagine his GPA for the 2011 year was higher than the 2.88 that is his cumulative. But thats just as sad considering his 2011 GPA was probably decent, and it only raised his cumulative to a 2.88.

Doesn't matter though, he's a Sports Management & Recreation Major, just sad really.

Since he's no longer enrolled, I assume his Loi is voided? Could he go to another school in the spring without sitting out a year of football?

I don't think so. I think the LOI is only voided if they are not academically eligible before the enroll as freshmen. I think he would be considered like any other transfer that withdraws from a university. Also, I think I read somewhere that he couldn't play for another D1 school because he is not in good standing academically 1 semester prior to the season. That is why he would need to either go to a JC or at least come back in the spring of 2014 and make good grades (and decisions) in order to play in 2014.

I've been wondering, if he does go JC and fixes the academic stuff can he participate in team activities in the spring?

A LOI only pertains to a prospective student athlete attending a NLI member institution for one academic year and that NLI member instruction providing athletic financial aid for that same academic year.

Golson and ND both met that obligation in 2011.

Despite the speculation on Golson's 2013 "academic ineligibility" I don't know that he is. Alledgedly he was discharged from ND for an ND Honor Code violation not GPA deficiency. I am not aware of any NCAA regulation addressing a school's honor code. His overall GPA is assumed to be fine and his semester GPA may be fine as well. If so, he is academically eligible. Even if he GPA was slightly deficient he could remedy that in Summer School ala Katzenmoyer's academic enlightenment one summer at OSU.

He would be a transfer albeit not of his volition nor because of GPA deficiency but he would be subject to NCAA transfer regulations.

IF he meets UND's requirements for readmission pursuant to the UNCLOSED terms of his separation from UND he would be eligible for Spring Ball.

Tom Loy spoke with some sources about Golson and:

A) He didn't visit Riverside and was home in Myrtle Beach

B) Golson is expected to return to SB and take classes elsewhere and/or get a job and stay in shape

C) Golson is expected to work out over the summer w/ QB guru George Whitfield in Cali (Really really big deal)
