Speaking of Bennett, he should have a really good year. Lots of experience gained last season and should be ready to lead the secondary. Was very impressed for a first years starter.

I hope he becomes a lockdown corner - at least a 3rd round draft pick caliber player. I believe that is realistic, but we will have to wait and see.

Cleaned up the thread because... as one poster keenly pointed out... the actions discussed (by letter of the law) would be a violation.

[Off topic point of order – appearing soon in an internet slag heap near you.] Then why is NDinL.A.'s vituperative, personal attack on IE posters still standing?

There was a potential NCAA violation in his post................?

Agreed. If the post was worthy of a banning, then surely the post (thread actually) is worth deletion. Not only is the post venomous, it's a outright black-eye on this mini-community for outsiders looking in. The fact that a recent former-mod authored it is even worse. Can we please have it removed?

Not that I know of, but there was a violation of the IE "letter of the law."

And so that has exactly what to do with Bennett Jackson or the posts deleted within this thread?

Consistency in applying rules, wherever writ, and to shake the Mod Squad brooms to dispel them of bias.

Consistency in applying rules, wherever writ, and to shake the Mod Squad brooms to dispel them of bias.

A poster posted something in this thread about an event that could be construed as a NCAA violation. Another poster caught that it was not good to post such a thing. The OP said "oh snap!" and edited his posts to say "deleted." So I cleaned up the offending posts and ones that quoted the originals.

So I'll ask one more time... please explain to me what deleting posts so that they don't land a player/person in hot water has to do with a different locked thread that had a rant in it? And, accordingly, if the two posts are completely unrelated, why are you posting about "consistency" between two incidents that are completely unrelated in any way? If one officiating crew makes a bad traveling call in an NBA game and a couple days later a completely different college crew in an NCAA game makes a good call on a jump ball... would you think to comment on "consistency" between the two situations?

Thanks.

Shocker..

Consistency in the matter would be Lax deleting NDinLA's thread because there was a potential link to an NCAA violation in it. I do agree that the thread should be deleted but the whole "consistency" slap on the wrist you're trying to give doesn't hold water.

In his first year at corner, I believe Bennett was already being projected as a draft pick. He's an athlete and a competitor. He's a good one. 3rd round would not surprise me at all.

I believe with Bennett Jackson, the sky is the limit.

I am pretty sure the post you have been talking about is the one affecting me, (and Wooly) most, of any users.

Just to be plain about it any comparison between consistency in refereeing basketball and moderating posts of printed words have nothing to do with each other. You are an intelligent man LAX, I am surprised you would throw that out there.

As far as the post and thread of la's I hope it stays. You see it is like this. We are all pretty damned even, all the way around. It doesn't matter if we are on top of the world, or at the bottom of the heap. As, humans, we are pretty much equals. That is what the guy meant when he said that in the eyes of God, all men are equal.

What then is the difference? Our thoughts and actions. How we act, and what we say and what is in our heart is the difference. I want that post to stand. And I am intrigued to see those "dancing around" celebrating it. Most in it isn't remotely true. And the lack of verasity doesn't end with that post.

I have had people ask me, why didn't you just ignore him? You can't use the ignore feature against a moderator. And I have heard other moderators and administrators infer you can. I believe this is disengenuous as well. I shouldn't have to try to ignore a moderator, just as much as the fact that a poster can't is being glossed over.

So I hope the post stands, and with the speed he has, the ball skills he acquired as a wide receiver, I hope Bennett becomes a back end leader and shatters the third round barrier, come his NFL draft day!

It was simply an analogy (a spot on analogy in every aspect, mind you) illustrating how the two situations are not even remotely related.

Dshans might as well have gone into the Name Game thread and said "by the way, why is the NDinLA post still standing?"

There hasn't been a single person who can give me a remotely rational or logical argument linking situation A) the deletion of posts at the OP's request because they might allude to an NCAA violation to B) other moderators letting a post with a rant in it stand. So why the hell is dshans posting about it in Bennett Jackson's head or quoting me?

So the post will not be deleted because it doesnt rationally or logically link the situation to the two points you have given even though there has been 4 or 5 individuals that all agree it should come down?

Sounds like we are arguing for aruging's sake here.

Does Dshans reasoning match his intended outcome, no, but that doesn't mean that the deletion shouldn't occur, no?

So he's a protected 2nd-3rd rounder in the 2014 NFL draft after 1 season at CB in which he played on a torn labrum. That's amazing.

And can't wait to see what he does next season after surgery to fix it!

That is pretty amazing to me. I couldn't throw a ball ten feet without writhing in pain before i had my labrum and rotator cuff fixed. Lack of mobility, snap crackle pop in the shoulder, certain movements completely lacking strength. I can see what B-Jax says about jamming recievers/wrapping up etc being a problem.

I felt like it was two years before I was much better after surgery, then again I didn't have very good post op care. I suspect his arm will be not quite 100% but infinitely better than last year by the time season starts.

Bennett Jackson, Senior, Notre Dame
Once Notre Dame's best special-teams player, Jackson became its best cornerback in 2012 and should be in line for a big season.

kipers top 5 for cb's in draft...bennett is someone to watch

None of the ND DBs were on the Thorpe Award Watch List.

2013 Jim Thorpe Award watch list - NCAA.com

I have a hard time believing BJax, KV, or Farley aren't one of the Top 48 DBs in the Country

I was shocked when I saw BJax wasn't listed. He's considered a top 5-10 corner for next year's draft. The other two I'm not real surprised about. The good news is it's not a prerequisite to be listed on the watch list to win the award so any of them could play their way into consideration.

Good point. I wonder if everybody is looking at BJax and saying what an effin' Ironman! And that is why everyone is expecting a major breakout season, but no one will put him on the best of "skill" lists? See what I mean? Bednarik, yes; Thorpe, no.
