Bennett just has a nose for the ball. Very pleased with his play and the entire secodary. It also helps the secondary look good when the front seven are applying tons of pressure. Buster is right that they are still not tested vs. impressive passers. We will see what happens but I think the ceiling is plenty high for these guys that they will keep getting better and have enough great plays to make up for the brain farts that are sure to come.

Got some love from McShay just now on ESPN! Just wanted to bump his thread anyway because he has been doing a tremendous job! 4 Int's, fumble recovery, and in on the goal line stand!

Most surprising player of the year. He's doing an amazing job at corner this year. Jackson and Russell are going to be scary good next year.

Didn't recruit Bennett as a wide receiver, didn't recruit Bennett as a corner...we recruited Bennett as a PLAYER. And that's what he is.

I hear this argument over and over and over. Who are they going to have to play against, Tom Brady for everyone to finally be happy, or should we bring Montana out of retirement and have him throw a few around in practice and test our DB's then, would that make everyone happy then?

Look, maybe the front 7 is doing such a great job on getting pressure on the QB because when, whoever the QB is their facing, looks up to pass the ball, he has no one to throw to because they are covered so tightly by our DB's. Unless you've been to every game, and or have game footage from either team, you can't see the DB's on their coverage the way cameras cover the game. So instead of declaring that our DB's haven't been tested yet, maybe give them A LOT more credit than you have so far.

Then comes the excuses that they were beat bad against Miami. Hey I can definitely admit the receivers got behind our DB's on that first drive, but what were the stats again, oh yeah they never scored a touchdown, running, OR passing.

I feel what Zeke and the rest of the secondary have done this year, they deserve as much credit and respect as the front 7. Our DB's are like a great offensive line, they make all the plays that no one sees, that no stats ever show, but everyone with half a sense of sports, know they are one of the most important aspects of the game. Keep flying under the radar secondary, you've caught my eye at least.

Though he has been doing a great job of making plays a la the turnover, I have been especially impressed with his tackling! He is very physical! I have always been one to say our CB's need to put on weight but after watching the season unfold I have to refer to OMM telling me speed kills! You are right Mikey and it is showing!

Read a good article on Deadspin/the Slate earlier about the success the Seahawks are having in the NFL with larger DB's..none of their guys are under 6'1.
I can kind of see some similarities with ND's defensive backfield this year.

He should be an All-American if he keeps his level of play up!

Nope.

Didn't recruit Bennett as a wide receiver, didn't recruit Bennett as a corner...we recruited Bennett as a PLAYER. And that's what he is.

Weis recruited him as a receiver and he would probably be playing there right now if Chuck was still head coach. Props to Kelly for seeing the potential at corner.

+1

Shumate, Farley, Jackson, and Russel have overachieved big time. I'm ecstatic with how they've played so far this year. The future is bright for this secondary. (And perhaps the reason the staff may only take one more DB this cycle)

I want to give kudos to Bennett, because he had several tackles and a couple pass break ups against a much larger Mike Shanahan today. Nothing fancy, just wrapping the big boy up and driving him to the ground.

I think another thing that goes mostly unnoticed is that QBs fear Jackson. He was making a lot of near Interceptions earlier this year and since the Michigan game teams have been largely avoiding him. He has outstanding ball skills and route jumping ability.

This team, more than any I can remember, sees the big picture and keeps it's eye on the prize.

It is a mock no? Doesn't mean he has entered the draft or anything

He isn't going to the draft. If he is getting a 3rd round grade this year, he should be at least a 2nd round pick next year.

First mod action! Cleaned up the thread because... as one poster keenly pointed out... the actions discussed (by letter of the law) would be a violation. I totally didn't think of that the first time I read the post, so good looking out.
