I've been monitoring this forum for 8 years but have never posted to date and feel like it's time to do so. When I was a wee lad, I came home from hanging out with my friends in my tiny, mostly Italian town-village in Western NY one night and saw this documentary-style recap on TV of Notre Dame's football games that season and I remember seeing the Gold Helmets and players such as Joe Montana, Ken McAfee and Ross Browner mentioned. It also included replays of the team coming out on the field with their Green Jerseys for the USC game that year. Later that year, I remember watching the beatdown of the Texas Longhorns (including Earl Campbell) in the Cotton Bowl that secured The Fighting Irish's NC that year. I played Vince Lombardi league football at the time and all I can say is that I was hooked from there on in and have been an ND Fan ever since. And I have been (very) patiently awaiting for the next NC which I feel I can finally say may actually occur in the next 1-3 years. Go Irish!

Don't sweat the neg rep. I 100% get where you were coming from. Your generation hasn't seen ND on top. I'm old. I was a teenager in the 70's when you guys edged us out for 3 NC's and you were the 800 lb gorilla of CFB most of the time. From my old perspective, you're a blueblood who's just emerging from a temporary down cycle like we all do sometimes.

I agree given our rich history it "should" be expected on paper but this was the first big win in my lifetime; i've been a fan since '00 and they've never pulled this one off. I was giddy beyond belief. Placing phone calls to friends and family, we were all in awe of pulling it out.

But I hear what you're saying, and it makes perfect sense. Sorry for dropping the neg hammer. Once I Spread the love, I'll get you some rep back. Emotions have been running high all week!

I understand that most of the students weren't born the last time something like this happened. I understand that they were excited and this was a big moment in their life as fans. I still don't like to see fans of programs like ND, Bama or OSU act surprised to win games like this, though. It should be expected by us.
