I don't watch soccer much. Does the reffing consistently favor certain countries, or is it just wildly inconsistent?

On a scale of one to meltdown, that HAS to be a very shitty call right?????

That has to be one of the very worst calls I have ever seen in a major sporting event... any sport, ever.

Can not believe how bad that was.

Yeah, Colombia has quite the history. Its an incredible country and people.

Point was that just because Andres was shot after score an auto goal doesn't mean that Colombians killed players that screwed up. It was after Pablo Escobar was taken down and now the streets had no organization and gangs did whatever they wanted without having to answer to Pablo any more. So a bar fight broke out and some angry drunk fans shot Escobar.
Basically I'm agreeing with you, it was one isolated incident.
I very much dislike it when people judge a whole country based on misinformation.

Yea, we're saying the same thing.
I am in no way shape or form judging Colombia. I actually went out with 2 Colombian girls before. Great, beautiful girls. I also have been to South America 3 times, and love the people over there.

Wow, Brazil looked shaky in that one. All three goals were weak, and Croatia had at least two good chances that might have been goals, especially the one where the ref blew the whistle on the collision with the keeper. Crappy goalkeeping on both sides. Can't help but feel that that's an unjust result.

Wow Brazil is weak. That PK call was absolutely atrocious. The ref was just was to willing to give a PK there. I smell match fixing on that call right there. Croatia was sloppy and they almost tied it at 2. Their keeper should have never let Oscars toe poke in. Brazil wont get very far if they play like that.

They will if they keep getting calls like that lol!

Calls like that are why I can't stand soccer. 1 BS call = 25% of total scoring? That would be like the charge/block call being a 50 point play in basketball.

Really he should have stopped all three goals. Especially the PK. He got BOTH HANDS on the PK. Not since middle school have I seen a goalie get both hands on a shot and fail to stop it. Really weak.

That keeper seemed a half step slow to everything. Regardless, Croatia got shafted.

If Brazil continues to play like that, they won't get so lucky in the knockout rounds.

Both at the same time? lol
I've lived in Colombia for quite some time. Its really a special country. All they've been through is just amazing.
Where in South America did you go?

Yikes was that game sloppy. It seemed so haphazard. Very surprising performance for Brazil. Expected way more solid dominance from them.
Lets go Argentina!

I picked Argentina or Germany to win it... we will see... I never thought Brazil had enough in the back...

Sidenote: It's odd saying anything from Brazil doesn't have enough in the back end....

Yeah, I think Spain has a chance as well. I've actually been skeptical of Brazil the whole time..they seem to have fallen from greatness in recent years. Always screwing up on the big stage as of late.

Also...lets not forget Cameroon for the Cup!

On one hand I'd be super excited... on the other I'd be some what worried... idk how the rest of the world will take us getting it at this point... especially if it's a WC taken from the Middle East.

Haha, I wished.

Went to Brasil, Chile, and my third one is not technically South America but it is close enough. We drove all over Costa Rica and Panama(11 guys lol, there are a lot of X-rated stories tied to that one smh). In Panama, we spent new years eve in Bocas del Toro where I hung out with a lot of South American brothers from all over(Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, etc...). That was very cool.

I was actually supposed to go to Colombia this winter with a bunch of guys, but it didn't pan out. Some of them went to Belize instead. Breaking bad fans. It is definitely at the top of my list. I was talking to this woman sitting next to me in the plane recently (beautiful Colombian Milf) and she was really selling it to me.

What can I say, I love South American women.
I'm a fairly muscular blond guy with blue eyes, so I'm fishing with dynamite over there! haha.

Spain is my bold prediction for team that won't advance. I think Netherlands and Chile will. I guess we will see tomorrow.

When Spain played Brazil in the finals of the Confederations Cup in Brazil last summer, the home-cooking was unbelievable. Brazil was allowed to go right through Spanish players, while Neymar was his usual flopping self and got every call. Now, Brazil was the better squad that day and deserved to win, but the refereeing was atrocious and the reason I picked Brazil to win the WC. Today was NOT a surprise at all to me, referee-wise. but Brazil looked very pedestrian and they better step their game up.

Spain is my bold prediction for team that won't advance. I think Netherlands and Chile will. I guess we will see tomorrow.

Screw you!!! Haha, we will see. If Del Bosque plays his younger players, I can see Spain making a deep run. If he sticks with his older players too much and doesn't go with Silva and Santi et al, I think we could be in trouble.

But the Dutch aren't your grandma's Dutch teams; they have some key injuries, are getting king in the tooth, and have a very suspect defense. I don't think we'll be seeing "Total Futbol" tomorrow, far from it in fact. IMO if they're smart they'll make it an ugly game like they did in the final and play a counter-attacking style. I have Spain winning 1-0, but a tie wouldn't surprise me. Neither team needs to start off hot to advance. Hell, Soain lost their first game in 2010 and still wn the WC. Chile is dangerous though, I agree. I think they knock out the Dutch, personally.

Can. Not. Wait for tomorrow. The WC truly starts for me.

are you from Spain? Other wise why are you not rooting for your home country?

Yeah, I'm half-Spanish on my day's side. He's from a small village in southern Spain. I grew up rooting hard for Spain, mostly leading to heartbreak, until 2008 when we finally broke through.

I also follow the US team very closely and watch every game possible, as I was born in the States and consider this my home country.

Not a big soccer fan and don't watch too much. But the guy from Brazil sure looked like he took a dive yesterday and got the call for the penalty kick.

You bring up an interesting point. I'm American but both my parents are Greek immigrants and obviously the rest of my family is Greek.

Soccer is one of those sports where I really relate to my Greek heritage and would root for them over the USA. The 2004 Euro Cup really cemented my love for the Greek team. The US is so good at every other damn sport that I feel like it's okay not to root for them so much in this one. IDK if that makes any sense but I guess you'd have to know what my life was like growing up.

thought the brazil-croatia game was infuriating to watch. It bears all the hallmarks of FIFA/Blatter "appeasing" the Brazilians with the dodgy refereeing. Its as if they are saying "sorry we bankrupting your country but we will let you win the thing if you stop calling us out on our BS" Not sure I can stomach a month of this :/
