Only reason Michigan’s recruiting classes are close to us is they have been taking full classes of 24-28 recruits. They have had tons of attrition unlike ND recently. On the most recent 247 evaluations they have 1 recruit in the top 100 and we had 3. OSU is DOMINATING them head to head and in development.
It's astonishing how completely their 2017 class fell apart. #5 class on paper to this:
Top 300 Prospects - 2017 Class (National rank)
Complete Failures:
Aubrey Solomon DT (23): Transferred to Tennessee
Luiji Vilain DE (57): 4 games played, 7 career tackles
Drew Singleton LB (79): Transferred to Rutgers
Jordan Anthony LB (106): 7 games, 15 career tackles
Chuck Filiaga OT (112): career backup thus far
Dylan Mcaffrey QB (123): Never started a game, couldn't beat out inaccurate Patterson
Oliver Martin WR (181): Transferred to Iowa
James Hudson DT (231): Transferred to Cincy
Deron-Irving Bey DE (249): Transferred to Central Michigan
Jaylen Kelly Powell (250): 7 career tackles, just entered transfer portal
Corey Malone Hatcher DE (268): Retired from football before playing a down
O'Maury Samuels RB (269): Dismissed from team
Donovan Jeter DT (289): 3 games, 3 tackles career
Underperformers:
Donovan Peoples-Jones WR (12): 3 years, 1300 yards, 14 TDs, left early for a mid-late round draft chance
Tarik Black WR (116): 40 catches 500 yards career, passed on depth chart by Ronnie Bell (who was ranked #212 WR in the 2018 class)
Moderate Success:
Cesar Ruiz OC (47): solid start. Big-ten 2nd team. Left early with mid-round grade
Ambry Thomas CB (90): started in 2019. Good year, Big Ten 3rd-team. Mid-round grade for next year's draft
So almost a complete lack of success across the board for all the top 300 players they landed.
