I don't necessarily care about the traditions as it relates to the jerseys, but at least has to look good. I'll go with the black jerseys and the black helmets, but please don't give me a helmet that has a graphic of the golden dome on it.

All the old guys are coming out to play...again. How about what the players want? The players would go batshit crazy over black jerseys. I feel like we have this conversation every single year. The old guys want boring all traditional jerseys/concepts where the actual open minded people would like to see something cool and unique for ONE DAMN GAME!

This has nothing to do with age. It has everything to do with not understanding the importance of now. ND invented the alt jersey and now we're supposed to believe that wearing the wrong color blue jersey with a gold helmet they've only been wearing for 6 seasons is some sort of unbreakable tradition?

I care what future 4 & 5 stars who'll get offers and the players currently on the roster think.

Alternate uniforms are abominations in general, and that uniform is ugly and your uniforms are ugly. That being said, if I had to choose one, it'd definitely be the all gold over the weird Kansas City Royal themed things you're pushing.

Maybe if you did those mock-ups in Notre Dame's colors, the reaction might be a little different. Messing with tradition is bad enough, but your color schemes don't say Notre Dame and that's over the line for most fans - not just us old stodgy fans.

I think that might be the other way around.

There are two camps of who are typically terrible at uniform criticism. You see them in most blue blood programs, across most sports, and obviously ND's version are among the most obnoxious.

The first is the "I don't like alternate uniforms" group. Typically older, but not always. Give away's are saying things like "don't change the helmet" or "our colors are gold and blue." This group can sometimes have a decent understanding of uniform history and design but often get trapped in believing their childhood era uniforms are always the greatest.

The second is the "tacky, Red Bull, cargo shorts, Tapped Out t-shirt" group. Typically younger, but not always. Give away's are always wanting or preferring a black or camo uniform and wanting a uniform that's monotone all one color. This group generally has a poor understanding of uniform history and design but are able to think outside the box which can lead to some good ideas.

When you get outside of ND-centric stuff I'd probably agree with the first group (I fall pretty solidly on the traditional side of things for the uniform spectrum) on a lot more uniform issues. But, if they don't like to do concepts so what?

It's like someone saying, "I only like this one kind of pizza and any other kinds of pizza are terrible." Well, good for them but why should a chef care what they think when making new varieties of pizza?

The second group I like because at least they can have a little fun. But, they can't get out of their own way sometimes because they can be a prisoner to a lot of terrible modern design like this:

These extreme groups drown out so much of uniform discussions and it's annoying. The past ~3 pages of this thread are a great example of that.

Well, the first two were Notre Dame colors, the second with some varied striping.

I can't stress enough that these are just concepts. It's supposed to be fun. We have a lot of them done in all kind of varieties. Including a bunch in very traditional colors/designs.

You really have to crank up the brightness of the green and gold for ND to pull it off.

But this is at least one of the color concepts that could work. But I think if you put yours together you'd notice the poor color flow. For example, the gold dome on the sleeve is going to look like Purdue while your helmet says something completely different.

The Four Horsemen are fine ... but as you said, not something to put on the uniform. They get lost on a sleeve or helmet.

Design and produce a separate flag for the Leprechaun to run around with.

I have to say that I think black would work. We did Under Armour black jerseys with gold lettering for our AllStar teams this year and they looked bad ass. I am sure you could incorporate a sweet helmet design to accompany it.

Some variation of the official colors, blue and gold. Incorporate some green now and again and leave the helmets gold, period. I can see incorporating some subtle design variations for the SS but the base color should be metallic gold. I didn't care for the royal blue version of "The Shirt" either.

Personally, I believe that if a team's uniform color or design is a deciding factor for a recruit rather than the tradition and education then well, it's probably not for you.

They're all garbage. I'm 35, and I don't consider myself ancient. I like the idea of alternate uniforms to attract talent, but not if they're going to wear this crap. The other two designs are ridiculous too. It's completely tacky to put the 4 Horsemen, the Dome, or any similar symbol on the uniform. You can do the monogram ND, the Leprechaun, and Clovers. Anything else just doesn't fit and makes the uniform look busy/tacky. I would seriously be surprised if even 25% of the players would enjoy wearing any of those 3 designs. If I was still playing, I'd say "Uhh...I'd like to wear the normal uniform, thanks." Hopefully UA never sees these designs
