One of the problems is the older folks want to come to Notre Dame Stadium to "enjoy watching Notre Dame football."* They can sit, not stand, clap when appropriate and just enjoy the Saturday game. They don't want to stand, yell, deal with the noise, etc.

You go to Penn State for a "White Out" game, and everyone knows what to expect. Wear white, yell until you lose your voice, be boisterous, jump up and down, etc. Even those who are older going to those game, know that going into it. It's about fandom culture.

I'm 64 and I stand and yell and clap. About 32 years ago, I took my oldest son to his first ND game. He pokes me in the ribs and points to the "old white haired" gentleman standing next to us. He's standing yelling "N D" in response to "We Are". He thought it was cool some old dude was getting into the game. I think there are more "old folks" that "get into the game" than most of you realize.

Georgia football’s national title odds are surprisingly good

High odds are somewhat predicated on who has the easiest conceivable path to the playoff, and Vegas is saying Georgia has the easiest path in the East. With the Bulldogs’ weak schedule, there’s a chance they could emerge from the regular season with two or fewer losses. Then, just a win against Bama would be needed to hop into the playoff (theoretically), and from there it’s two wins to a title. Compare that to Clemson, which is pretty much out of the running with a loss to FSU, or Auburn, which would have to run the gauntlet of the SEC West and beat Alabama.

I'm sorry, but no team in the east has an easy route to the playoff. Georgia "easy" schedule isn't easy in the slightest. They have three extremely tough road games in Notre Dame, Tennessee and Auburn, along with a neutral site tango with Florida, who's beaten them consistently over the years.

Don't know about Crusader. I personally have a bad track record in USC games (1-5 I think, with the lone win coming from that 2015 game). When it comes to Michigan I'm something like 8-1 though, with the lone loss coming in that fluke 2010 game when Crist got knocked out for half the game and Denard still needed some heroics. Fuck Michigan!

Tickets available for Notre Dame, but they’ll cost you

Meanwhile, Notre Dame is providing UGA only 8,000 tickets for the game, which will be played in its newly-renovated and expanded stadium with 80,795. Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity, in Destin for the SEC meetings this week, estimated that at least 20,000 Bulldogs’ fans are planning to make the trip. Some think it’ll be more.

Whatever the case, the demand for tickets is great.

“I wouldn’t put it quite to the level of when we play in the SEC Championship, but from a road game perspective – and I’ve been doing this for 17 or 18 years now – it’s one of the hottest tickets we’ve ever seen,” said Tim Cearley, Georgia’s associate athletic director for tickets. “I’d say it’s second (in demand) to the SEC championship.”

Georgia set its minimum requirement for season-ticket holders to receive tickets for this game at 75,000 “Hartman points.” That means one must’ve donated at $75,000 cumulatively over the years to qualify to buy them. Cearley said they ended up being able to accommodate requests for donors down to 67,000. There also is a tiered distribution format in which donors who have given at least $10,000 this year can get as many as six tickets. Keep in mind, that does not include the face value of the tickets, which are $170 apiece.

“Until recently, I had reached a point in donation land that I got tickets from the university for every game,” Folendore said. “Don’t misunderstand me, this is not a complaint, but the Magill Society kind of changed that a little bit.”

UGA established the Magill Society to fundraise for the newly-completed Indoor Athletic Facility and other projects. It requires a minimum donation of $25,000 to be paid off over the next five years.

Several new donors were able to qualify for Notre Dame tickets via that route, Cearley said.

I was at Games 6 and 7 of the World Series last year. The stadium was 25-30% Cubs fans. I was in a Cubs section in the upper deck. The market was commanding 10-20x the face value of the tickets, especially less expensive tickets, which were mostly bought by Cubs fans. (I'm an Indians fan.)

The day after Game 7 I drove back to SB and listened to Cleveland radio callers complain about how Tribe fans "sold out," which caused the invasion. I didn't mind as much, because I saw it as a perfect storm situation.

Consider:

(1) There are far more Cubs fans in the world than there are Indians fans;
(2) their average income is probably higher;
(3) it is a relatively short trip; and
(4) it is an historically rare experience to see a Cubs WS game.

Only (4) obtains in this case. If UGA fans invade the new Trump Stadium at Crossroads it will be our fault. Or, perhaps, the fault of Swarbrick et al for tolerating mediocrity and creating a culture of apathy.

I think you over generalize the income on both sides. I also think you incorrectly simplify the importance of football to said people.

Average income in the Chicago metro area is 12th and in Cleveland is 85th. (And the gap would be larger if we excluded White Sox territory.) ND fans are probably richer than UGA fans, in general, but the point is that UGA fans are not richer than ND fans. If they were, then they might have power to drive up prices to a crazy extent, as happened to the Tribe. UGA doesn't in general have a financial or passion or size advantage over ND. Which is why an invasion (by which I mean 25-30% UGA fans, or 20,000-25,000) will be appalling. This isn't like UGA invading GT, or GA Southern, or wherever. They aren't supposed to invade us. They are supposed to show up in numbers, of course, unlike a smaller program, but we're supposed to hold our own.

The fault will be with the old farts who sell their tix to Georgia fans as a means of expressing their displeasure with Jack and BK. At least, that will be their excuse.

Really, it's because they don't actually care about going to night games, and want the cash. It will just sound more noble if they play it off like a statement to the admin.
