I dunno about you guys, but I feel we'll have a "strategic advantage" this season... ;)

Does anyone argue the starting DL looks good though? I'm pretty sure it's a unanimous agreement our starting DL will be good.

It's the 2nd string interior DL that's terrifying. And that's the last position you want to be soft.

Well.....Shamrock just said he thinks it'll be average. So yes, some people don't expect good.

Also, I think you are making quite a bit out of a position, that won't be on the field a lot, barring injury. How many snaps do you think Hinish and MTA are going to get per game? 10-15?

In general, I'd expect this defense to play less snaps per game than last year, as I think they'll get off the field quicker. That's where the edge pressure and Elko's scheme will help.

Let me add, that I do think there will be games where the lack of depth at DT matters, we're not winning 12 games this year, lol. But in general, I think the backup DT concerns are overdone at the moment.

Still not as bad as the Rice guy in 2014 who was like "I can't share that" to basic ass questions because he thought it would give a "competitive advantage" to ND and acted like Rice had NFL talent all over the field.

That guy was the best. I remember thinking, "we're playing the 07' Patriots, if they had the 85' Bears defense".

I'm talking about DT as a position dumb dumb. Don't be smart, you know what I meant.

Was hoping for a Koon #HotTake on why the 2nd string DL is actually more important than the 1st.

Count me among them. Who am I supposed to be confident in?

Jay Hayes? A senior with 12 career tackles.
Bonner? A senior with 11 career tackles.
Tillery?
D Hayes?

Maybe I'm just being pessimistic. I don't know.

I'm with you - I have no confidence in any of the back up DTs. Our experienced backups got passed by a true freshman 3-star who's basically Rudy-ing it out there until he pukes. Love the effort, but he's not ready to play 2nd string DT at this level.

How MDT and Tiassum got passed by a couple of kids is beyond me, if it's true.

Kelly said they wont be getting 30-40 reps a game, right? So should we expect 20-30 or 10-15 like you said?

It's just a guess but I'd be very surprised if the freshman DT's play more than 15-20/game. They only do, if they are playing well, or we have an injury.

I could see mixing and matching MDT/Tiassum/MTA/Hinish, for or a total of 20/game, max.

On topic, has anyone heard from any good news on Elijah Taylor? I basically am writing him off but if we could survive Georgia and somehow get him back after that, it'd be a big help.

Haven't heard anything but I'd be pretty shocked if he was lost for the entire season. I know those take a bit to come back from, but that was a spring injury.

NFL orthopedic surgeon: Lisfranc foot ailment is 'bizarre injury' - NFL.com

This is an old article but it says 5-6 months with surgery.

And I agree, getting a fully healthy Taylor would be nice.

Taylor was injured in the end of March. So, it's been 5 months up to this point.

With the turnovers our defence is expected to create 30-40 reps will be all the opponents will be running. That would make the rooks starters.

While I'm optimistic about the defense, I think that is a big stretch.

Reading through the last few pages of crazed hype and realizing the meltdowns some of y'all are gonna have this season like:

Looking forward to the season with you jokers. I have tried to stay away from commenting and getting super involved in the discussions during the off-season. I have low expectations. Last time that happened we made it to the NCG. Let's go Irish!

Uh just FYI the lowest team in FBS last year ran 60 plays per game (Ga Tech, burning that clock). Highest was Baylor at 88

Or are you saying you expect ND to blow teams out?

Maybe they meant 30-40 of each, which would put them smack dab in the middle of that nice, meaty end of the curve? Either way, I'm puzzled too.

I will bet absolutely anything Temple will have one drive of at least 10+ plays.

I'm more worried about the safety play than the interior DL 2 deep...
