I've never played DL, but I've played and watched football. I truly believe Ishaq can handle every DL call that's not 'drop in coverage'.

He's been doing this for 3 years. DLs aren't asked to disect an offense, just to take the correct gap and beat their man (or contain if we're trying to not over persue).

Only one of those takes thought and it's determined before the play starts.

Actually Ishaq has been an OLB for 3 years and a DE for 6 months or so. They probably added a fair number of blitzes for this week and the fact is that Ishaq won't be caught up on them. When he is in the game then he limits the play calling that BVG can do. Can he probably play some on third and long with a straight up 4 man rush. Yes but can he be a regular part of the defense when he would limit BVG's play calling since he missed the installation of the defense for the game? No. Also it is even more important to be there this week because DG can run and so knowing your assignment is even more important than when you play against a stationary QB.

If it's 3rd and long, how does a blitz affect Ishaq? He just has to choose the correct gap, which he'd do for any pass rush, blitz or no blitz. It's not like he's going to be faking coverage and coming off of the edge. He'll be coming off of the edge regardless.

And it's more complicated, but not FAR more complicated IMO. We wouldn't be asking him to drop into coverage, so it's tackle the dude with the ball, stunt right/left, don't over pursue.

Love the optimism, Koon, but it is far more complicated than just run right, run left and tackle the puke wearing #98. I doubt any of these players could take a game plan and cram it all in within 48 hours. Maybe he can play on a limited role on passing downs, assuming BVG is confident he understands his responsibilities.

I agree, Ishaq is probably in good enough shape to play some snaps on Saturday. Your original post said play every snap (I took it as playing the majority of the snaps). I don't think it's realistic. Nothing you can do in a gym prepares you for carrying the weight of your pads and hurling your body at another human for an hour. He'll be fatigued quick. I'd be happy to get 20 solid, full speed plays out of him.

I'm missing some posts, but I'm saying he can be in for every pass rushing scenario. I don't think that run plays would be that much trickier for a DL, but I've never played so I really don't have much ground to stand on.

Passing downs for sure, I think he can be in on 2nd and 5 too, but maybe I don't fully understand their responsibilities. When I said 'every down' I didn't mean he would physically be in shape for that, just that I don't think there's a scenario where a 4th year player would be overwhelmed on the DL because of concept.

I could be wrong so I won't argue any further.

I'm not hip to the Goodbye Horses reference, but I am with you on the "it's Michigan week" deal. As far as this crazy academic thing, I hope we get some closure soon because it has made us all crazy. Certainly I hope we get some of the players, or all of the players back, but again I wish we could appreciate the kids that are out there and just worry about what we have instead of what we don't. Anyways, I am really excited to see if EG gets his redemption this week?! We are definitely at the mercy of his performance for this game.
