I'm in California, so it's still early. We slept in, then my wife made brunch. Two eggs over-easy, bacon and hashbrowns.

Add rye toast (whole wheat when rye's not available) and you have my standing breakfast.

Unless someone else is picking up the tab or doing the cooking – then I'll go for Eggs Benedict every time. Hollandaise makes anything better.

Took the wife to The Cheesecake Factory for lunch today. I had a French salad with goat cheese, she had a Caesar salad and we shared some fried calamari.

Sweet Mother of God! What happened to a rare roast beef on rye sandwich? The real stuff, not a reconstituted, reconfigured "beef product." And REAL rye – with caraway seeds and a chewy crust, not that spongy "new age" swirly faux pumpernickel and Wonder Bread® white crap. Heavy on the horseradish ... not a "horseradish cream sauce with dill, finely ground ginger and who knows what else."

With a side of real potato salad, s'il vous plaît?

One of my favorite beers.

I love wheat beers in general, and Hoegaarden is a really good one.

The best one I've ever had was at the Paulaner Brewhaus is Munich. I went to Munich for a weekend for "Starkbierzeit" with some buddies. It's like a super scaled down version of Oktoberfest without all the tourists (freaking blast). We heard the Paulaner had a rad party at the end (we were there for the last weekend) and decided to check it out. We hung out in this huge beer garden for a couple of hours and just drank beer by the liter. That's the only way they served it. I had several of their weissbiers over a few hours and we all just got sh!thoused. Later we checked out the inside party once the band started playing. We walked in to a bierhaus full of Germans in dirndls and liederhosen dancing on the tables while the live polka band played YMCA. It was wonderful.

BTW, "Starkbierzeit" is a celebration of the Paulaner monks who used to brew their own beer during Lent. They would only drink their beer and water - no food. But the beer was so dark and strong that 1 liter was the equivalent to like 1.5 loaves of bread. Pretty rad.

Yesterday, carnitas quesadilla with habanero salsa off the lunch truck at work... Tasted great, but bad idea.

Today, homemade red chile pork and green chile chicken tamales.

Pop tarts today. I decided to go healthy. I may scarf down a hot dog later to make up for it. Don't worry, I plan on adding relish so that I can say I "ate something green".

Ha, you reminded me of my only visit to Germany. First of all you had to get used to warm beverages. Then you had to get used to ho strong they are compared to American. They had one that we thought was particularly bad called Schulteheis, which we lovingly nickname Scheisehaus, or for you English speakers, Sh1thouse. Mostly because that is where you ended up very early the next morning.

Went to Chipotle and had chicken tacos with cheese, pico, and medium salsa on the side with an ice water.
