It's not just the assistant from Stanford. There is also a guy who isn't in college football that I actually think is a superb outside-the-box hire and probably more important than Steen. They'll each have different roles and I think will make great strides modernizing all of ND's S&C. Grant Steen's last two stops were definitely good ones, and the other coach -- like the other hires we've seen recently -- does a lot to help recruiting efforts in the immediate future. ND certainly getting aggressive with these new hires and contracts.
Tommy Rees tells me he has not had any talks with Notre Dame about being the quarterbacks coach.
The classic non-denial denial.
Rees has an agent who is trying to find him a future after San Diego.
It would be a good fit.
Lax can defend himself here but I dont like it either. It seems like a filler hire. He could have easily promoted Quinn but he or ND went outside to pull in a guy who doesnt have much top flight experience. Maybe BK wants a guy to do what he wants him to? Maybe ND said screw you BK this is who you will be working with? Lots of huge question marks are around this hiring.

Is there a name we can attach to this other individual?

Notre Dame fans should pay close attention to the Rose Bowl because you're next HC might be calling plays for Penn State.

First ND practice if Rees is hired:
Wimbush: "Coach I'm not sure what you want me to do here? I read the DE and pulled the hand off like I'm supposed to so what are you saying's next again?"
CTR: "Don't talk that read option, mumbo jumbo to me, you throw a jump ball to a 6-5 WR/TE or take the sack dammit."

"Claypool isn't gonna know the ball is coming his way unless you stare him down. It's for his benefit."
That picture was the turning point in that game. A TD there and they were done. Ugh.
What's Ron Powlus doing at ND?
Why is Rees coming in better than Powlus coming down from the box?
Im guessing cause Rees knows the offense
If Ron Powlus doesn't know the offense yet, that's a problem.
but Rees played in it. not that hard to figure out
...and Rees ran half the offense tops. Not saying he can't coach it but there's no reason he should be able to coach it any better than Powlus.
