Some interview snippets of some of the new coaches from our boy Loy. All good to listen to but I really like what Lea says about Nyles. Wish everyone on the team had Nyles' mindset.

Bob Elliott has emerged as another potential option for the open Husker assistant's position, a source told the Journal Star.

Elliott spent the past two years as a special assistant to Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. The source said it was anticipated Elliott would meet with Mike Riley about the vacant position on Tuesday.

A graduate of Iowa who owns coaching experience that dates back to 1976, Elliott was in charge of Notre Dame's safeties from 2012-13 while new Husker defensive coordinator Bob Diaco ran the Irish defense.

Elliott also has been a defensive coordinator at Iowa (1996-98), San Diego State (2006-08) and Kansas State (2002-05). During some of Elliott's stint as a full-time assistant for the Hawkeyes from 1987-98, Diaco was also a player and grad assistant there.

Former Husker defensive back Daniel Bullocks interviewed for the job last week.

It's unclear how many other candidates have been interviewed or might remain in consideration for the job coaching Nebraska's safeties. In the case of hiring John Parrella as his defensive line coach last year, for example, Riley conducted interviews with three candidates and had a fourth interview planned before canceling it.

This position became open when Brian Stewart moved to become the defensive coordinator at Rice. On National Signing Day last Wednesday, Riley said he was "not close" yet to naming a replacement.

Riley did say he hoped to make the hire in a timely fashion, while not doing it at the expense of being thorough.

"I'm not going to hurry to the point where I don't feel comfortable," Riley said then. "We've got to pick the right guy."

Elliott has been quoted as calling Bob Diaco the best defensive coordinator in America.

With the changes at ND, bringing in Elko and Lea, I think that was either a particularly fortuitous statement, or an indication that his bags are already packed.

I want to make it clear, I think Bobby Elliot is great, and he did an awesome job for the Irish. However, with his health so improved, I understand he may want to get back on the field.
and I can't blame him. I don't see him getting a shot with Elko's afinity for coaching safeties. And I am not sure about how other dynamics in that conversation.

So I wish Bobby the best. Bobby is a great guy, an great coach, and if he wants to see the field again, I am behind him 100%. Not many could win the battle he did, with the honor and grace he exhibited!

Thanks, Coach Elliott!

Davenport (D-II – MI): Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that the four finalists for the Davenport head coaching job are Holy Cross (FCS) offensive coordinator Brian Rock, Notre Dame analyst and former Buffalo head coach Jeff Quinn, Ferris State (D-II – MI) wide receivers coach / passing game coordinator Sparky McEwen, and Davenport interim head coach / offensive coordinator Steve Casula. Davenport is transitioning from NAIA to Division II this fall and will play in the GLIAC.

I thought this would be the best place for a quote I found revealing from an article by Eric Hansen on Freddy Canteen.
“But he loved Chip Long’s offense more. It’s almost like basketball on grass.

“In basketball, you know how to isolate a guy on the wing and let him get 1-on1-situations by spreading the court. I see Chip Long doing the same thing on the football field, spreading it out and making people have to cover people in space.

“Notre Dame is going to force you to try to stop the run with numbers. And if you do, you leave people 1-on-1 on the outside. And guys like Freddy Canteen will hurt you bad if you do that.”

The Irish coaching staff believed strongly enough that could happen to bloat their 2017 receiver numbers to 11 scholarship players. That, in turn, brings the current roster count to 87 overall — two over the NCAA limit — even factoring in the coming known transfers. The Irish, though, don’t have to rectify the overage until fall.

TBH I think the 2016 ND offense forces the defense to defend more with numbers than Chip Long did at Memphis due to the option math.

I bring up this chart because I'm curious about who will be S&C Coach #5. Will it be Quinn like last year or will he be put back into O Analyst Role and it will end up being someone from outside? Also, any news on GA assistants? And lastly, I saw only two "Analysts" (Jeff Burris left for Northern Iowa) listed on the ND spring roster. Alabama had 9 "Analysts" according to their media guide last season. Any idea if ND is looking for some coaches who were recently let go? This analyst position is incredibly valuable for the purpose of holding essentially backup coaches on your staff. Bama used Sarkisian there, had Mike Locksley, and has Bobby Williams (in a role similar to Bob Elliott). ND was able to promote Greg Hudson and the defense didn't suffer (it really only could've improved). Point is, if ND wants to keep up with Bama and Ohio State and others, they might need to beef up the staff to keep the jobs of the 11 football coaches a little easier.

Welcome to IE! Or welcome back? I think you are correct. Irish Sports Daily discussed this on a podcast not too long ago. Mike Frank was making the same point that ND needs to invest more heavily in analysts to keep up with the top programs.

Hope to see more posts from you.

Does ND choose to get outspent by the other schools, or are they ignorant to what other schools are doing? It is somewhat embarrassing that all of the other blue bloods take their programs so much more seriously.

The program needs an overhaul. Commit the resources to give the program a chance to be successful. Hire more, better staff. Pay the bigger, better staff what the market dictates. Buy more, better things for training and marketing. Recruit more, better kids. Compete damnit! Stop mailing it in.

Yeh get your #$$%$ in gear and run things like Ole Miss and the rest of the sec. Analysts out the wazoo and a handshake full of cash for the players.

Texas A&M's Larry Jackson, former director of football sports performance, has decided not to take a different position with the athletic department after being fired from his duties with the football program.
"I'm not at Texas A&M in any capacity," said Jackson, who had been the Aggie football team's strength coach since 2012.

Jackson said head coach Kevin Sumlin didn't give him a reason for his dismissal.

"I guess that's for him to be concerned with now," Jackson said. "Coaching is coaching. Everyone has to do what they have to do. I was just glad for the opportunity to work at Texas A&M, and I'm thankful for all the people who welcomed me back a third time."

Jackson had been Sumlin's strength coach since 2006 at Houston, and their history began before that. Jackson served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at A&M when Sumlin worked under former head coach R.C. Slocum from 2001-02. Jackson and Sumlin later reunited as assistants at Oklahoma.
Sumlin often praised the work of Jackson, whom players affectionately called "Black Death" for the tough workouts he put them through.

Jackson, who graduated from Rockdale, played linebacker at A&M from 1991-94. He returned in 1998 to be an assistant under former football strength coach Mike Clark.

"I guess I'm at a different point in my life now," Jackson said. "I'm just going to forge ahead and be glad I had to the opportunity to come back and work at Texas A&M and have my family here, because my wife and I are both graduates of Texas A&M. I also was able to coach all my little brothers."

Jackson is making $315,000 per year, which ranks 15th in the nation among college football strength and conditioning coaches but only seventh in the Southeastern Conference, according to USA Today's latest survey of coaches' salaries at public institutions. Jackson is under contract through March 2018.

A&M has hired Mark Hocke to replace Jackson. Hocke, who attended Wednesday night's men's basketball game at Reed Arena, served as an assistant at Florida State in 2016 after spending the 2015 season as Georgia's strength coach. Before working at Georgia, Hocke served as an assistant at Alabama for six years.

Sumlin hasn't spoken publicly about the change. An official announcement on Hocke's hiring is expected soon.
A person close to the situation said Jackson's staff -- Ben Compton, Monty Gibson, Dale Jones and Steve Price -- also has been fired.

Interesting, no doubt.

Texas A&M football strength and conditioning coach Robert Dale Jones was named Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association on Thursday at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville. The honor is the highest given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession. A&M master strength and conditioning coach Larry Jackson presented Jones with the blue MSCC jacket.

Jones is A&M’s fifth strength and conditioning coach win the honor, joining Allen Kinley, Raychelle Ellsworth, Vernon Banks and Jackson.

This guy.

Dale Jones begins his eighth season with the Cougar Baseball program as the team's strength and conditioning coach and his 11th year overall in the UH Athletics Department. He is responsible for the speed, strength, flexibility, nutrition and conditioning of all Cougar players.

In addition to his strength and conditioning duties, Jones also serves as an adjunct lecturer for the Health and Human Performance Department. He also has worked as a senior advisor for strength and conditioning at The Edge Extreme in Flower Mound, Texas. He also has been a speaker at several strength and conditioning and sports-specific coaches' clinics.

Jones joined the UH Athletics Department in 2001 after teaching weightlifing instruction in the Kinesiology Department at the University of Houston for a year. In 2003, he received his master's degree in exercise science from UH.

He also served as the head trainer and director of operations at The Exchange Athletic Club in Dallas, beginning in 1998.

Prior to that, he served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at North Texas during the 1997-98 season and was a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at SMU in 1997.

He earned his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology with magna cum laude honors from Washburn in 1994. In addition, he was recognized as the 1994 Physical Education Major of the Year and the NASPE Physical Education Major of the Year.

As a student at Washburn, Jones worked closely with the men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball and softball teams and helped develop strength programs for student and university staff.

Jones is a strength and conditioning coach certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. He also is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a certified Sports Performance Coach by USA Weightlifting.

He is married to the former Nicole Sommer. They have a daughter, Abigail Sarah. The couple lives in Pearland.

This guy is pretty freaking accomplished. Hiring him as the fifth member of the strength and condiditoning program should be a wet dream for any ND fan who wants to see a stronger ND football team!

Notre Dame: Sources tell FootballScoop that Texas State outside linebackers coach Tyler Santucci has accepted a defensive analyst role on Brian Kelly’s staff. Santucci previously worked under new Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko at Notre Dame a few seasons ago.

The Scoop - Wednesday March 1, 2017 - FootballScoop

Good hire. Early-balding, goatee, DII PA player which is second only to an Ohio coach. Plus he's from Harrisburg metro and he can drive the 18 wheeled Leprechaun back there and park it in front of Parsons' house. See how easy it is to respond without busting balls on typos.
