It's not the same thing. Changing the Christmas plot points in "Die Hard" would not drastically change the movie. You'd be talking about minor changes that will still result in the same fundamental film. The movies you listed would become completely different films with different titles and different storylines.

Bullshat. Home Alone is not a completely different movie if you set it on a different holiday.

Does Die Hard have Christmas Music as the majority of the soundtrack?

Does it have a resolution and general theme about the spirit of Christmas?

It's not a Christmas movie, but it does USE Christmas.

The other movies would be similar if they were about different holidays, but their actual themes are about the spirit of Christmas, therefore they are Christmas movies.

There are four Christmas songs, and the rest of the soundtrack is scored by Michael Kamen, who sprinkled the score with sleigh bells in some cues. You know... to keep in the spirit of the Christmas theme of the movie.

Just as much as Home Alone. The entire plot revolves around him trying to recover his estranged family during the holidays, and when all is lost, miracles can happen during the holidays.

t's not a Christmas movie, but it does USE Christmas.

As I said before; the plot begins, continues through the movie and ends with a theme of the spirit of Christmas. I don't know what else to tell ya.

In your opnion is "It's a Wonderful Life" a Christmas film? Because I would argue that Die Hard is more "Christmas" for those questions than Its a Wonderful Life.

Die Hard - Christmas Music throughout plus an original soundtrack with Christmas themes.
It's a Wonderful Life - Ummmm.. Buffalo Bill Won't You Come Out Tonight? Should all acquaintance be forgot?

Die Hard - Man trying to save his family (both literally and emotionally) and reuniting with his wife at Christmas.
It's a Wonderful Life - George Bailey realizes his life choices were impactful and that he's loved at Christmas.

If Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie than IAWL isn't either. And if IAWL isn't a Christmas movie then I'll fight you IRL brah.

Just watched The Accountant. Strong 3.5/5 stars.
Not a huge fan of Ben but good stuff. Original story which is rare these days.

I'd be happy with a sequel.

Did this stupid Die Hard discussion result from the AT&T commercial?

Watched Jason Bourne last night. 3.5/5 stars.
Another solid addition to the series. The way it ended assuming another will come out in 2-3 years. Wonder how many more he has left in the tank as an action hero. Tommy was good as usual. The new CIA chick was a welcome addition.

Saw Inside Out for the first time. Did not really enjoy it. I thought it was the least "adult-friendly" Pixar movie I have ever seen. I laughed maybe twice the whole movie. The Sadness character was just awful and ruined the movie (yes I know she was central to the plot).

Found an HD stream of Nocturnal Animals and watched early this AM over breakfast. 3.5/5 stars.

Not what I expected (the ending), but great acting and interesting premise. Initially I didn't like the ending, but as I thought about it, liked it more. Jake and Amy are solid, and Michael Shannon is getting to be one of my favorite actors.

It's held pretty steady between good and meh for me. My main complaint continues to be that they went too over the top with the Joss Whedon style humor, which I guess was to be expected given the success of the Marvel films following the same formula.

Sorry BGIF, I posted my many thoughts in the Star Wars spoiler thread.

It was fantastic, though.

I saw Manchester by the Sea the other day. What a triumph of a movie. Easily the best movie I saw in 2016 and definitely an Oscar contender. Casey Affleck knocked it out of the park.

Agree. One of the saddest movie I have ever seen though. The dust was heavy in the theater.

I thought that the last act was not nearly as good as the first two, but it'd be nearly impossible to measure up to them. Truly a sad but beautiful film.

Over the weekend I finally saw

X-Men Apocalypse - meh, its was ok...the honest trailer for this one is pretty much dead on especially in relation to Jennifer Lawrence and Hugh Jackman

The Magnificent Seven - I really liked it, but I could understand those who got a meh reaction to it. The bad guy, while doing sufficiently bad guy things came across more sleepy and bored than aggressively evil

Rouge One. Disliked it quite a bit.

I will prob check it out in a week or so but if you disliked it I am assuming there is a strong chance it'll let me down... we see things as differently as any two people on average but we seem pretty locked in on all things Star Wars.

Bond movies are all over Hulu again, so I've re-watched a few:

"Tomorrow Never Dies." It's better than I remember. "Goldeneye" is the best Brosnan 007 film, but this is a close second. I like how they got off the "Let's make constant references to Bond being an outdated, misogynist Cold War relic" that was in "Goldeneye." That stuff got old; all of the apologies for sins of Bond films past. "Tomorrow" clips along nicely and has the classic feel of the best Bond films without all the bloated silly stuff. Michelle Yeoh is kick-ass & Jonathan Pryce is perfect as an egomaniacal nutcase.

"For Your Eyes Only." Hit and miss. It tones down the campy silliness that had been plaguing the series but didn't completely eliminate it. Too much disco influence in the music. And the blonde skater girl is annoying. But the action scenes and stunt work are top notch. It has a more adult tone in general and feels more grounded than most of the 70s Bond output.

"Diamonds Are Forever." Yeesh. Worse then I remember. All of the flaws that infected most of the Moore films were already taking root here. There was always a touch of camp to the Bond movies, but this one went over the edge. Too much bloated, hokey nonsense. And worst of all for a Bond film, the movie is boring. It just drags and lumbers along all the while looking like a parody of itself.
