We had a few cold ones in December with some decent snow, but Ohio has been surprisingly warm the last 2 weeks or more...60+ degrees during the day, and only 44 during the night. Around here that's shorts and sandals weather anytime...well, at least for me. This is the reverse of last year, which felt like one of the coldest damn winters we had in a long time.

That's been pretty much through the Midwest. Glad it's been rain instead of snow. Otherwise we'd have about 6ft of snow with all of the rain. Wife and I drove up to Kenosha, WI. on Sunday and it was 45 up there. Met a guy from Michigan who lives about 100 miles north of Green Bay. He said winter has been mild up there compared to their normal winters.

Get ready though. The last week of January and first three weeks of February are usually the worst of the winter.

I didn't realize you moved back to the state. Welcome back.

ah cheers dude, yeah we moved over in September. Currently staying with family in Fenton area but will be looking at buying somewhere in the next 12-18 months. Working for a software company based near Pontiac and am enjoying the change of scenery. Thankfully the winter has been mild so far!

A few weeks ago I was in Sioux Falls and it was -27. Coldest I've ever experienced. I got out of my car for 10 minutes to fuel and scrape some ice off the windows. I didn't realize it was that cold so I didn't put on gloves or a hat. Got pretty bad frostbite on the top of both ears and numbness in the fingers of my right hand. No permanent damage and the ears have finally healed, but still have a small amount of numbness in the tip of one finger that is slowly getting better.

See, that's the only part about living here that really sucks. When it gets that cold, it steals a bit of your soul.

Northern Indiana was bad Sunday. On the drive up to Kenosha you couldn't see the giant wind mills until you passed them. Went through Chicago and you couldn't see the skyline. Wan't much better on the way back.

This has been a weak-ass winter over here. It's a nice break-in for my first season learning how to heat with wood, but I haven't been able to crank up the stove without the hearth room going to 90 degrees. Literally.

Same here. It's been hanging around the 60s for the past two weeks in Tennessee. Feels more like spring than winter.

... Spring flowers bloomin'.

Reminds me of a bizarro episode many years back in Minneapolis. I was at the U of MN overlooking the sun drenched bluffs overlooking the Mighty Missisp. I stepped outside for a break in my shirtsleeves. It was the middle of fucking February! Crocus and tulips were budding and blooming. Not a good thing.

I got home and noticed that my Spring Buddies, my spirit lifters, were budding and trying to bloom.

I strongly counseled them to not fall for the juke, the head fake. They didn't listen. Real winter came back with a vengeance within a day or two. The buds and blooms froze. They did not come back in April.

It was a dismal Spring for the Manic-Depressive in me.

Must be across the Midwest. It's been pretty windy the last few days. No 70mph winds, but strong enough to mess up DJT's hair.

Two out of three of my school age kids had outages at their school buildings.

They closed my son's school and sent everyone home. He was devastated . . .

Not.

We had a major wind ad. here a few days back, ripped a bunch of shingles off roofs, blew quite a few trees over, including one of mine... today though has been the most beautiful day yet this year 75 clear and no wind, it's a shocking difference from just a couple days ago...

We completely skipped over winter here. It went straight from fall to spring.

Lots of snow, wind and cold here in southwestern Alberta but there is always lots of wind.

An hour and a quarter to the west of me, where I have a ranch, we have now received 23' of snow since November. The most (by far in all of the province). Should be starting to calve in the next week or so, so that will be a ton of fun.

I read that we were the second windiest region in Canada, after St. John, Newfoundland. If that is true, I never want to go to St. John. We get these Chinook winds (the one DeCapprio confused with global warming during The Revenant shoot) and they are often at least 60mph. Three weeks ago, the thermometer dipped to -32 Non-Freedom degrees and the following day, with a mighty windy Chinook, the mercury raised to +16 Non-Freedom degrees. Canada Goose expedition jackets to shorts and sandals in less than 18 hours.

Yeah, I really feel for you guys that lose patio furniture in the pool! Any pools here are still being serviced by a Zamboni. Looks like another two weeks of crap.

North Dakota - I think the coldest weather I was ever exposed to was in Minot. I was there for a friends wedding on February 4th of '87 or '88 or '89 (memories getting sketchy). No plug ins at the Ramada and we had to leave our vehicles running all night. The hotel went around during the night filling gas tanks. First time I ever drank MD20/20 and the very last! Meals at the truck stop (Schlotz?) were spectacular... the "99" being one of the most legendary breakfasts I have eaten... could have been the MadDog though. Cheers!

Minot...lol someone else here told a tale of visiting their brother in the USAF there 20-30 years ago and how they couldn't believe the cold. It's brutal, no doubt. Flat, no trees. Lots of wind. I can't imagine ND being a lot different than Alberta? You by the mountains?

Minot is pretty much the worst place in the world. Can't figure out why people live there. 3-4 hours from any form of civilization. Sorry you had to come to my fine state for a wedding in f'ing February. Poor planning on their part.

Football players... right??? The mighty Beavers! Of course they're going to attract a bunch of Canadian kids. Three of my old room mates played football at MSC/MSU as well as a few other friends. Two of my high school coaches played there in the '70's. Connections.

My ranch is by the mountains but I live about 60 miles east. Definitely similarities between Alberta and North Dakota. Alberta is a bit unique in that we have a lot of everything... prairies, foothills and mountains. I guess if I had to compare Alberta to a state, that state would be Montana, which ironically, is about 30 minutes south of where I live.

I've only been to Minot a couple of times, but the people were great and I always had a lot of fun. To be honest, most places I have traveled in the world have been a lot of fun and great experiences... maybe not California... spent 5 or 6 weeks there all totaled and they just don't seem too jocular. Nothing bad ever happened but it sure wasn't a "typical" experience with the other 30 states I have visited.
