Seems to me Kelly suffers from lack of passion. His pressers are a snoozer. Maybe it's contagious
There's no motivating Eric Hansen.

2 things here. The reference to Bart star is 2 professionals being paid to play football. It's allowed in that sense.
I agree he has made mistakes, I don't disagree with calling someone out. My issue is with him saying a press conference is not the time or the place to call out a paid professional but it is the time and place to call out a student athlete. This isn't an issue of me not thinking did or didn't make mistakes.

I found his statements in the pressed to be very odd. It almost sounded like over the past few years he gave complete control over defensive decisions to BVG. I mean if BK felt as strongly as he made it sound about the right players not being on the field, th scheme being too complicated, play re getting too many reps, players feeling like they are not being given chances why the hell did he not step in and tell BVG to change? It's like he had no clue what he as going on from a defensive standpoint. It just seems very odd.
As a side note, I am calling absolute bullshit on BK when he said that is was "absolutely his decision to fire BVG". Everything he said in reference to BVG up to that position it contradicts that.
BK is also wearing on me very quickly. So let me get this straight. You don't think a press conference is the time or place to call out a coach who is getting paid to coach for a living and nothing else. But it is the proper time to call out a 20 year old kid who is going to school, being an upstanding citizen, representing the university the way he should, being a team leader and plays football in the mean time and doesn't get paid should be called out during the press conference? And then you double down at your Tuesday press conference and say he essentially isn't living up to your personal expectations so he deserves that criticism? And then you are going to come out and say when a reporter asks you if that is that is the proper way to motivate a player and you say no? That pisses me off and is absolute bullshit. If it wasn't for kizer BK your team would have been beat by 3 touchdowns at least and your ass may be gone. Maybe your expectations are bullshit and need to be brought into perspective.
Getting a DC with a name/identity/reputation is desirable and even preferable...not silly, that is very basic understanding of how you turn things around quickly.
Its like the jackass star argument...having higher rated kids consistently leads to more wins...can you win with lesser athletes...boy don't the ND faithful know it...but odds are the talent wins
...same in coaching
BVG had to have something on him. I mean we all know BK has a big ego, as most coaches do, yet he was completely hands off with BVG and D. It makes no sense.
Are you sure? I thought BK was gonna fire him, not NDSIAP...but it is my understanding that ND will be firing BVG
So, you don't think that Notre Dame is a big enough name again to attract players, even when our former DC was not even recruiting, as we were pulling in great players? We do not "NEED" a name other than ND--because we can offer them weekly TV exposure, literally, one of the largest fanbases in the nation (and probably the largest by looking at the population of the school, since there are very few schools as small as ND in D1, or capable of remaining in D1, for that matter) and get to play all over the nation? Sorry, but anyone without a "name" can sell that, and they have been for decades. It is far easier to sell that now that ND has been rebuilt to become a bigger national power again. There is no need to just jump at a name. Find the right person that fits, period.
That worked pre-holtz. In case you haven't noticed, the ND defense has not excelled consistently SINCE ALVAREZ. name/brand/identity starts fast and SUSTAINS recruiting and builds based on the recruiting and development...ND, with all the attributes you cite has done exactly NONE of that consistently.
I am fine with someone who has done something at a lesser level with lesser players, but in order to build a program, that will take time...the name/brand/identity , if you can get it, accelerates the process. I think it is silly to think some up and comer is going to out recruit an Aranda in years 1 and 2...just not happening. That doesn't mean a good defensive coach can't get results with what ND has / will have, but it'll have to be done w/o 5 stars, and with some 3 stars. Those who recruit and retain the high star guys tend to do better early and over the long haul...just an eternal truth...
I don't think ND will have an easy time pulling a qualified head coach, and I don't think ND will have an easy time pulling a brand DC...but there is no denying the preference for doing so.

You're a little bit late, here, don't you think? You need to step up your game, man. Maybe get new sources?
I knew about this, yesterday!
I preferred this all-too realistic "State of the Program" address from an opponent's perspective:

With all the freshmen and Sophomores on the roster I could see '18 being a good year.

Remove Booker & BVG. Add Mike Tressell (DC) and Mike Elko (Ass. HC & Safeties Coach). Let Sanford take over OC. Denbrock (WR & Special Teams Co-Ordinator).
In my perfect world.
What makes anyone think Mike Tressel would even come here? He's been with Dantonio for 13 years now. Seems if we want Tressel, we might have to hire Dantonio as well. And I'm not so sure that's as slam dunk of an offer/hire as some believe either.
Plain and simple. Dantonio is running the defense up there. The only reason he hired Tressel was as a favor to his buddy, Sweater Vest.

Edit. Remove Tressel. Give Elko the DC job. Marty Biagi as Special Teams Co-ordinator & Safeties coach. Denbrock as WR & TE coach. Sanford OC/QB. Booker not retained (Big fan of his recruiting work, but his units have always looked sloppy to me).
Also, Strength and Conditioning looks weird to me. I understand Longo and Flint, but it seems like we are just parking Quinn & Grimes there so we can move them around as needed (Just from looking at their previous experience and skillsets, neither seem to come from a Sterngth & Conditioning background)). Is the dynamic different, have they both committed to being S&C coaches or are we under-resourcing a pretty important element of the coaching staff ?
