I may have been negged more than I know but I've noticed 3 since joining and 2 of them were in an exchange w/ the LA guy. I have no idea what it was about but he gave me some condescending response and it was on for a minute. I capped it off with something to the effect: Is that all you're wife (or girlfriend) could come with for you?

Well, apparently his wife had just left him ( I had no idea as I had ZERO interaction in non-recruiting threads 5 years ago, still have very little pre-corona lol) Anyways, he negs me, OMM NEGS ME and tells me to leave the board! and one of the mods gave me a warning.
Oddest thing I remember about that is Loomis PM'd me and told me about his beefs/run-ins with him and that he's a local in South Bend... I thought he lived in LA. Flash forward to a month ago and I posted a tweet about case growth with Corona and loomis negs me for posting false info. I was just passing it along for discussion free from position or agenda.

Anyways, that's the 3 negs i know of. I may have negged Haverford once the IE pitchforks and torches were coming for him. Besides that, I don't think I have.

That was just his charming personality.

My one and only infraction was from NDinLA back in 2013 for inappropriate language and he deleted the post saying it was 'seeds of a sick post'. Since it's been deleted we'll never know for sure but I'm pretty sure I called Alex Anzalone a d-bag for how he handled his recruitment, lol. Man, that was a long time ago and it was probably deserved.

I feel like I remember this lol

"Coventry" central.

I haven't looked recently, but there used to be a feature on this board called "Send to Coventry"

The poster could post all they wanted but no one would see it...and they had no idea.

I did not know about this, and this sounds awfully evil...

the dreaded shadow ban; its common on other platforms. No matter how much it is not acknowledged.

They're not banned, but what became of Wooly and Dshans? Haven't seen either in awhile.

Wooly left.

Dshans took a sabbatical. We talk every couple of months by phone. Last we spoke he was doing fine.

NDinLA is one of my all time favs on this board,... but I am aware he had his pretty open beefs.

wait - wasnt LA always posting pics of his lady on here?

also LA gave me my only infraction for of all things name calling - rich from that guy

Yes, his wife was roommates with Justin Tuck’s at ND. I hope that’s not true about them.

Same. Seemed like a big family guy.

Isn’t his wife in his avatar?

NDinLA is actually really cool. I met him and the Mrs. at the Navy game in 2011 or 2012, first person from the board I ran into at a game. That is her in the avatar. I haven't heard that they split up, but honestly I've only talked to him a few times since he distanced himself from IE. He did post last week in the COVID thread I think. Like many posters, I know his online persona can rub people the wrong way. Real cool dude in person, great at carrying a conversation. Had a ton to say about Irish football, had all that behind the scenes info. Hadn't heard that he and the Mrs. split up, and I'd be surprised if that happened honestly. Again, didn't speak much since he mostly quit posting, but I want to say I had a PM from him 4 or 5 years back and he and the Mrs. were expecting again. I could be totally wrong though, my memory can suck.

[EDIT] He posted in October of last year that he was going to be at the USC game in October with a new born, so take that fwiw.

I may want to put up a disclaimer.

I was told him and his wife split or were having problems and that's why what I said caused the ruffled feathers. I had no idea then, I have no idea now. Don't know the guy from Adam.

So apparently was not the right words to use.

Sorry for any confusion.

Anzalone was a d-bag for the way he played it out.

I'm just happy the whole board is getting older and wiser. I'm happy to be that young cat that everyone picks on here and there... Go Irish!

Sometimes the juice ain't worth the squeeze.

Koon was an alright dude that sometimes went a bit far in his arguments. But there are plenty of others out here that do the same from time to time... including me in my earlier days on IE. I am going to miss the fact that Koon actually did bring some good points to his various conversations at times. I guess he just took this one too far... and that's a shame. Wish him the best of luck.

He'll be back... If the Flu was made in 1918 and made It to today... He'll be asked to come back to help the younger generation after we all pass away......

Can we allow all the banned folks back in to one thread only - like a Jeopardy Tournament of Champions or Thunderdome. Banned users only - no outside commentary.

^THIS.
I would increase my contributions to the site. I'd do the full 25 yr contribution!! (would take me all the way to 2049)

Who owns the site now, ask them how many paid subscriptions it would take.
The political thread is what caused this blood bath, what better way to honor the American political system with some cold hard cash. :makeadeal

I think Koon will be missed. I like how he has a different perspective on a bunch of stuff and doesn't care that everyone is going to jump on him. He has been correct (against the stream) about a few things.

Like Greg Bryant's abs?

Thanks. Next time you talk to Dshans, tell him hello for me. I've always liked him and miss his grammar Nazi stuff.

Dang, I need to read this thread more often. I had no idea all of this went down.

I like LAX and think he’s an asset to this website. I’ve met Koon in at a tailgate before and he’s a good person.

To piggyback what someone posted earlier, I also think some posters need to meet up at a tailgate.

Does all of this mean I’m an IE old timer now!?

Hah. Not sure it's actually a good idea. Don't want to hurt feelings.

It might be a quick way to make some huge vbucks. Bet on yourself, go full meltdown, collect and hope it's not a perma ban so you can enjoy the fruits of your vlabor. Just spitballin.

Wait, you're young? I thought you were an aging dude losing your grips on reality with your questionable .gif game.

Someone once told me I was old and I keep back-tracking.... Backwards... Maybe i'm just regular citizen at the moment.

As for the political threads, I'm open to maybe nuking them. But I'm hesitant to do so for a couple reasons:
  • I spend a lot more time here because of the political, theological, and cultural discussions than I would otherwise. And I've gotten a lot out of them, to be honest, and am much closer with some of you than I'd be if we limited our interactions to just football-related content.
  • Of the "regrettable turnover" that may have been linked to heated arguments in the political threads (Cacky, wooly, Buster, NDinLA, etc.), most of them PMed me before leaving and explained that they: (1) were spending too much time on IE; and (2) were about to embark on a major life change (usually a new job); and (3) therefore wanted a permaban to avoid the temptation. None of them said, "hey, the political threads have ruined IE for me, so I'm leaving." If that were actually the case, they wouldn't have requested bans to ensure they stay away. They'd just sour on the community and stop logging in.

But I'm open to changing my mind on this.

I'm not the most active poster but have been a reader and user for almost 10 years now. Really, I am the user persona that IE should be targeting - an engaged, active member but not a fanatical one with 20,000+ posts. In fact, the only reason I became aware of all this is because I enjoy Lax's football intel and was wondering why he's MIA.

With that said, I really think you should keep the forum as it is presently structured. I, like many others, get a lot out of the non-football threads (particularly the culture-focused ones) because there are posters that are passionate, knowledgeable, and willing to engage beyond a surface level. And just know, you don't need to be spamming posts in those threads to be engaged; there are tons of posters that get value out of them that don't post daily (such as myself).

Some political threads are hot garbage -- which is why I really appreciated the move a few years ago to take all politics threads off the front page. Sick of the discussion? You're an adult, opt-out. I (and I suspect many others) primarily access threads from the front page, so I only am exposed to the political content when I choose to search it out.

The only (small) suggestion I have for the site is to remove the requirement to spread kudos to posters before giving it to someone you acknowledged recently. I shouldn't need to hand out participation trophies to mediocre posters just to send some love to Wiz.
