This does not strike me as a justifying a ban. The solution to the problem, IMO, is more speech, as we see in that thread, with posters pointing out that this is foolish analysis. If he kept making dumb off-topic comments that are designed to provoke (e.g., "Rudy was offsides"), then maybe he should be re-banned. But I personally think his ban should be lifted.

We're remarkably consistent when it comes to tolerance of other fans. If you provide intellectually honest discussion, it doesn't really matter where you fall on things.

If that guy had said "I think Georgia Tech is going to embarrass Notre Dame by 50 points because..." or "Your team is awful and doesn't have a prayer of stopping us because..." that would've been fine.

We are not a "smack" board. That's clearly defined in the mission statement for this place (wherever that is) and has been the case since the site was overhauled many years ago. So when someone comes in with a first post that features 4 paragraphs and 3 of them are clearly trolly with no value added then its best to nip it in the bud. Maybe he should've been afforded a second post to see if he turned it around... maybe. But I'm not losing any sleep over it.

We're remarkably consistent when it comes to tolerance of other fans. If you provide intellectually honest discussion, it doesn't really matter where you fall on things.

If that guy had said "I think Georgia Tech is going to embarrass Notre Dame by 50 points because..." or "Your team is awful and doesn't have a prayer of stopping us because..." that would've been fine.

We are not a "smack" board. That's clearly defined in the mission statement for this place (wherever that is) and has been the case since the site was overhauled many years ago. So when someone comes in with a first post that features 4 paragraphs and 3 of them are clearly trolly with no value added then its best to nip it in the bud. Maybe he should've been afforded a second post to see if he turned it around... maybe. But I'm not losing any sleep over it.

To be honest, the initial intent of this thread appears to have been aimed at keeping track of permanently banned users. The point being that if you were banned, you probably deserved it because the mods are not overly hamfisted when doling out the hammers. We also give lots of rope and second chances for those who get temporary bans.

Then it started incorporating discussion of temporary banned members as well. And it now has taken to celebrating those who received bans or questioning the bans issued by mods as of recently. I don't think that was the intent but I do think the mods deserve a bit more credit than being called out for ending an obvious flamer or giving temp bans to someone who quite clearly broke the board rules. Most issues are handled by consensus and with deliberation.

We try to keep the site pleasant for all those who visit, not just posters. Obviously this includes lurkers, family of the players and recruits, as wells as insiders and the like. This may not mean much to everyday posters but it is something that has to be monitored.

I did no think you were but your post kind of summed up what is going on in this thread so I quoted it. Apologies for not being clearer. Lax posted something before I could get mine out and said some similar things.

Anyway, this thread has kind of taken on a life of criticizing the mods behavior and I personally think it is in bad taste considering all that the mods and Pham does to keep this thing moving on. There are several popular posters who broke the rules and were perma-banned. Ever since then the #freewhoever movement thinks it is kind of a joke or feels it necessary to keep posting about them. Posters need to stop asking for perma-bans to end. They earned them and it ain't happening so move on.

Amen. The mods do a fantastic job, ya'll deserve more credit for the work that you do. The #free {insertLamePosterNameHere} movement is getting old. It takes a pretty conscious effort to get banned from a website, and I'm not sure how people find themselves on the wrong end of a ban hammer all the time. It ain't hard, follow the rules, don't be a doofus, and you'll continue to clutter the interwebz with useless drivel like I do.

I read somewhere a couple weeks ago that said Rudy was offsides because of something to do with his leg kick or stomp, whatever he did prior to the snap which is supposedly not allowed? I don't know. Didn't make sense to me.

Either way, I think that GT troll forgets that ND has lost to Navy..and Syracuse..and South Florida..and..I can't keep going on, it hurts too much.

the non silent minority will always question things, right or wrong. painful, but goes along with the spoils of being leadership in charge of all of us knuckleheads.
