If calling someone a dipsh!t gets you banned permanently, then there would be like 2 people left on this site (OldManMike & Dshans). So that simply wouldn't be consistent with the rest of the board. I call Wiz worse names than that on a daily basis. You get warned on something like that, not permanently banned for one comment.

There is no rule stating that you have to be well liked by the board and treat mods nicer than other posters. That's a slippery slope, imo.

The only other possibility is that he was banned for what someone thought was a dumb opinion.

Regardless, nothing I saw on this thread was worthy of banning.

Yeah, didn't mean to sound like I was accusing you. That very well may be the reason, I just don't like it.

I looked at his history (which frankly, there's not a lot) and it looks like he got most of his red from saying mean things about Tommy Rees a couple years ago. Just didn't post enough to ever change it. He's certainly not a big "value add" to the board or anything, but he's not a troll either.

If someone's very rare posts are neg-rep worthy I don't see why they shouldn't have a short leash. I mean the guy went crazy on Lax because of his relatively uncontroversial OP. I didn't ban him but I certainly don't see a problem with it. I wouldn't ban greyhammer for saying the same thing but greyhammer has a posting history.

Guy has 60 posts and 90% of them were trolling, insulting, or otherwise starting shit with people. That's why he had the rep bar he did and probably a bunch of previous infractions.

Not at all what I said. I said to stop taking the thread over with why a user was banned. My post didn't justify anything, and rather suggested that if the ban isn't justified, the poster will return.

The thread wasn't taken over by people asking about the banning, it was taken over when he was publicly banned for calling a mod a mean word. I highly doubt you guys were going to huddle up and discuss the merits of this dude's banning, and I highly doubt you want us to stop talking about it because its derailing the thread. It's just not something you want to talk about because you know it's wrong and you would prefer it to go away. But the rest of us aren't mods, and if we don't bring stuff like this up, then we could end up being the next casualty.

If you want to call my bluff, then start a thread for disputes. Let us talk in open forum if it's our desire. If it's "derailing" to speak of it in the thread it happens, then give us a forum for grievance.

Sorry, I just realized that a large chunk of the offending posts were actually deleted by other mods. They used the "soft delete" function, so I can still see them in his history. So you can't see them, but they show up to me. It's not all that terrible, but there were some cleaned up by NDinLA with the comment "troll" and some others where he took shots at people and such.

I didn't read through them super close, but his ratio of "normal post" to "starting shit" is at best 2-to-1. Which really isn't good enough to take the line he was taking in this thread.
