Not playing them is worse. Like you said, we have to recruit against OSU and MSU. Michigan doesn't go away from that equation. Throw in the fact that they can use the perception that we "chickened out" of the series, that's not a good look either. We don't gain jackshit for playing Purdue, but we do it. There is absolutely zero to gain and a lot to lose by playing Navy, but we do it. There's nothing to gain for a lot of the games we play.

This whole "nothing to gain" excuse is weak.

There is literally no one on earth besides maybe the most delusional Michigan fan that believes that, especially after destroying them on the field in the last game.

You will find a Rupp arena in Kentucky.

Did Rupp try to pass a rule requiring all SEC (or whatever conference they played in back then) coaches join the KKK?

Yost wasn't some normal "old guy different time" racist. He was really, really bigoted against Catholics, blacks, etc. The guy is revered there and has had his fingerprints on every meaningful coach the school has ever had. It's disgusting.

I'm with Lax on this one. Scheduling the skunkbears carries minimal upside (as opposed to any other large public university) and a lot of risk.

But more importantly, they're just evil, and completely unrepentant about their shameful history. Virtually every major program in the country would love to add us to their schedule, because any marquee game featuring the Irish is guaranteed to attract lots of dollars and eyeballs. So why should we offer that benefit to the heirs of a bigoted as$hole who tried to smother our program in its cradle? Or to the white trash who regularly assault our fans when we have to play in the Big House?

I still carry a scar on the back of my head from a thrown beer bottle after we got stomped in 2003. UM deserves nothing but contempt from the Irish, and I hope that's all they'll get going forward.

I cannot believe what I am seeing.. People actually DON'T want ND to play Michigan again? Why? Am I missing something? This is one of the best Rivalries in CFB. Great players, Coaches and History. I think it's foolish that some ND fans don't wanna play UM. Can someone on this board please explain to me why some don't to play UM again? Thanks

The same reason I don't want America to have to go to war with Nazi Germany again: a little luck in their direction and we could be living in a "purified" world. F*ck the Nazis and f*ck Michigan with minimal apologies to nazis everywhere.

And this, my friends... Is the end of the argument...

Well, one of the most delusional Michigan fans will be their coaches, and if we're going head to head with them for a recruit, you can bet it'll be used.

See, every time I think about fichigan, I can't help but contrast my feelings toward that school with my feelings towards usc.

With usc, I want ND to play them and beat them. I want it badly. I want our guys to go there and drop the hammer and come back the next year and do it again. Every year, every time. If ND loses to them, F it, get right back up and try again the next.

But, it's different with michigan. I hate them so much, I don't even want ND to play them. I would be happy if that program ceased to exist. Or caught on fire, wallowed around in its death throes and then ceased to exist. I feel like any contact ND football has with them is a benefit only to them and is way more than they deserve. I don't really care if ND never got another opportunity to play them ever again. F michigan. F bo schembechler. F jim harbaugh. F desmond howard. F tom brady. F maize an blue. F their giant weasel mascot. F the big house that doesn't sell out. F that shitty fight song. F a michigan man.

Piss on michigan. Beat usc. Go Irish.

Im cool either way.

It's a great rivalry, but at the same time, it's not like I am salty they aren't on the schedule this year. It doesn't feel as if something is missing and I think that's the key. If USC wasn't on the schedule, it would kinda feel awkward. Stanford would even feel a little weird.

Notre Dame will always schedule 3-4 marquee games, so I am not worried.

However....

A Shamrock Series Game with Michigan in Indy or Green Bay would be badass.

Just curious, why Green Bay? I was thinking Ford Field possibly Comerica Park.

Look at it this way, with that last win we have a lifetime of gloating. Michigan still leads the all time series unfortunately, but if you take away the 1800 era games when nobody knew how to play football but Michigan, we led the last century.

ND in Lambeau would be the most epic venue imaginable IMO outside of Angel Stadium ( just for me) or Rome ( discussed earlier this year)... GB would be awesome!!!

Or ND leads the series since the time when a football became its current shape, since a touchdown was worth six points and since the forward pass became part of an offense.

Green Bay would be garbage and would never happen. These games aren't selected for their stadiums, they're selected for their media markets.
