Hamilton needs to be on the field idc who is a captain and who is a Senior kid is better than any safety or linebacker we have except maybe for Gilman. When he is on the field something good happens

Slept on it.

Awoke less worried about our LBs. A lot of those mistakes - both missed lanes and missed tackles - were inexperience. That'll come, and there's plenty of athleticism.

More worried about the passing game. The line protected pretty well and still either our WRs couldn't get open or Book wasn't patient enough to find them. Either way, if Book plays like he did last night we might as well have kept Wimbush around. Kelly seems confident he'll get better. Hopefully he's right.

Also not impressed with our offensive line in short yardage, obvious run situations. Maybe Louisville was selling out, but so what. If we can't get a yard when we need one against a defensive front like that we're going to have a hard time against the Michigan and Stanfords of the world (and forget Georgia).

But, a win's a win. There have been years we lose that game. And now we basically have three weeks to prepare for Georgia. It's like an extended camp. That should help as our troubles last night weren't so much talent as execution.

I am putting a lot of this on our backs, mainly TJJ. Tony looks great when there is a hole that he sees. When he doesn't see an obvious hole, he runs weakly into defenders.

In third and short situations, it's less about reading the defense and just putting your pads down and just going. (Playcalling can affect this some too. Play under center in those situations, there's no reason not to.)

One of his pass break ups he was out there with both Gilman and Elliot also out there so what's that make him the nickel?

—Book badly needs to work on pocket presence. We can’t beat UGA if we need to get him out of the pocket all game.

—Finke is going to be nonexistent outside. Not sure what the solution is apart from Young getting healthy.

—Our inability on 3rd and short was really disappointing.

It’s frustrating seeing coaches scheme ways to get the ball to their athletes in space and we never seem to emphasize that.

—We need the LBs to step up badly by UGA. At least Fromm isn’t a dual threat so we won’t get gashed by the same stuff.

—Hamilton, Keys, Tremble, Owusu all looked legit and like the athletes we normally don’t have.

—Nice to play crappy and win by 18 on the road to an ACC team.

Name an athlete we have that we should emphasize. I can't think of one. We are a sum of the parts team.

Had Gilman in the box a lot more then I originally thought. Besides Hamilton missing that one tackle up in the middle, he was impressive. Houston Griffith literally got zero tick until the last 4-5 minutes, I believe.

Is it a mistake playing Chris Finke on the outside? He was invisible tonight.

Chris Finke has no business starting. He is a good option on third downs and certain sets when he is covered by a linebacker or a fourth string DB. He needs to be underestimated to be effective.

I'd have to rewatch but Patterson looked like the weak link on the oline. Hard to hit the 3rd and shorts when the Center is giving ground or not getting his reach to play side.

Tremble is gonna be real nice but you can def tell he missed some lifting sessions with injury. Dude is a WR currently and TE by designation only.

Not real sure what to think about middle of the D. Hinnish seemed to be getting good upfield pushes but never where we needed. Is that sheer poor luck or were they opening gate on him and letting him take himself out of picture?

Bilal and White, Ugh... We def looked lost vs the new offense at beginning but they still have a ton to fix and some of it is most definitely not fixable (size, speed, strength, etc.)

Anyway Jalen could play LB so we could have Jalen, JOK, Alohi, and Kyle on the field all at the same time?

-I liked the play calling overall and it was pretty spot on EXCEPT on third and a yard to go. Like Jesus, can we get anymore predictable. I think the TD where RB went in motion and Book pump faked and ran for the TD was one of my favorite play calls of the last couple years. I will give Lea a pass on the way the defense started just because we had no idea how Louisville was gonna come out, but we can't keep coming out flat like that. Where was our WR screen game? Did we run more than 1? Come on.

-Tony Jones and Jahmir Smith are going to be excellent duo. Was fun to watch Jones last night. Think he is going to have a couple highlight reel runs this year where he just runs through a ton of defenders for a long TD

-Big Tommy Tremble fan. Think he's gonna be a major key for us this year in stretching the field.

-I really like Drew White he was all over the field, he just needs to wrap up a little better.

-Kyle Hamilton can take all my future daughters in marriage. He is going to be one of the best defenders we've ever had

I'm pleasantly surprised at how good Doerer looked. If he can be consistent, that's a big worry erased. I missed half the 1st quarter due to driving, but Book was awful in the first half.

Gotta get better, gotta tackle better, Book needs to have more pocket presence.

1. Kyle Hamilton is a treasure. My god the young man has such good football instincts. He recognized Louisville's early attempt at a throwback and made a play on the ball despite being out of position when the play started. Amazing.

2. Jalen Elliott saved a couple of long TD's with sure tackling. The safeties are really great.

3. Drew White looked lost during the first two defensive drives... He settled down and looked like a legit MIKE after that.

4. I think Okwara and Kareem are putting too much pressure on themselves to live up to the "Elite Pass Rushers" billing. Just play ball, fellas.

5. Tutu Atwell Bandwagon... ALL ABOARD! He's gonna be the ACC's Rondale Moore with Satterfield drawing up plays for him.

6. Lack of success in short-yardage situations in the second half is concerning. Once Louisville adjusted to the counter-trey, ND's run game wasn't generating enough push at the LOS.

7. I hope to god that they were holding basically the entire offense back (and will again against New Mexico), because shallow crossers to Claypool as our primary passing option aren't going to work against UGA.

8. Put Finke in the slot, and let Tremble/Keys split reps on the outside. If Book is going to be hesitant to target the outside receiver opposite Claypool, then put Finke where he's actually going to see targets. Let Tremble and Keys get comfortable on the outside while Finke does what he does against slot defenders.

EXTREMELY HOT TAKE ALERT THAT I WANTED TO PUT IN ITS OWN POST:

If the best part of Book's game is going to be when he pulls it down and successfully scrambles for yardage or creates a weird throwing window, then they might as well start repping Phil J into the offense.

It's only game one, and Book will probably be fine... but yeah, I said it.

They were probably 60% of the time. Alohi was in the box. Not Elliot

Correct, but I'm talking about Jalen as a base LB, and Alohi joining on some plays with Kyle playing centerfield. (plus JOK on the field).

Same players, but no the same positions. I wouldn't mind faster fliers at LB, Jalen could be used in a Jack Lamb way?

Really? You can't think of one athlete we should get in space? We're now a middling CFB team with no explosion?

Alright, I'll bite: Keys, Tremble, Claypool, Lenzy, (Austin should he return), Young (when he's healed), Kmet (when he's back).

If Book is going to carry the ball 14 times a game then Phil is going to get a lot of PT for another reason.

(But I had the same thought last night.)

I don't see this as a hot take, as I think Phil could do just that and would have potential for more. But we saw Book play better last year, so there's no need to trot out Phil just yet.

This was about what I expected to see for the first game

The passing offense was sluggish with us missing the weapons we did.
Loved the Oline and running game, hope we keep that going.

D was rusty and clearly was confused by the RPO the first two series. I don't blame them, the Louisville team threw the kitchen sink at us. Lea made the adjustments.

Not worried about the front 7, they held up well after the 1st quarter. There are going to be growing pains throughout the season, we just have to be patient and let them grow into the positions.

Veterans really bought into the hype and were pressing too much- Okwara, Kareem and Book. They just need to play their game and not worry about the stats.

Overall, this game doesn't change my outlook on the season. I still think we have the potential, talent, and coaching to be a 10+ win team. We've got two weeks to dissect the film and get better and I think it will happen. We'll be ready for Georgia.

It's gunna be a good season, with a few hickups. I reckon Georgia and Michigan will cover whatever spreads they're given, but we'll be in the other games and probably win all of them, maybe one loss there. So I think we're going to be around 10-2 or 9-3 before the bowl game, which is just about average for the last 10 years. Book's gunna take a few years off my life, I think, if he can't get his act together and actually stay composed in the pocket. And I think it's just going to be better for my mental health if I just ignore the position of linebacker all year somehow. I was hoping by year 10 we would have that killer instinct to just kill our opponent like the other big boys have, but I fear we don't.

All OK.

We had a poll here and ND by 14-19 was the second most chosen prediction. I picked that and so did a lot of us. First game and away.

The defense, I believe, would have come close to eliminating UL to one TD or less BUT Lea had no good clues as to what this new staff would do with their new talent. He said himself that it was the most difficult sort of situation for a DC to plan ahead for, and that we were left just trusting our base with adjustments in game. He, being brilliant, did exactly that. If he had any linebacker play, we might have shut them out.

Michigan at home won by almost the same margin that we did away. I wonder who would win if Middle Tennessee went to Louisville?

"My" OLine looked just fine. Long and Book will get the against-the-blitz plays figured out.

Finke was whiffing blocks on multiple occasions - whiffing might be generous as he wasn't even looking to engage. I get that out of young talent but senior captain, underdog story guys block down field.

Book also seemed oblivious to down/distance way too often. Why throw/run short of the sticks on third down when you can try to make a play downfield? Take the easy yards on 1st/2nd down but on 3rd you need to move the sticks. Just as well off chucking it out of bounds and avoiding the contact.

As expected for ND opening game and agree with some thinking Louisville will be much improved this year. I did not catch the end of the game because it was too late.

- Play calling was not great
- End of half game management was bad. Had 2 timeouts and looked as if they were scrambling for plays. Had a penalty. Luckily we ended up scoring, but felt that could have been managed better.
- Jahmir Smith needs to get better at blocking and pass pro. He miss a lot in the first half.

Book has way too happy of feet. We want to give credit to Lea for adjustments, but once UL adjusted their defense, the running game was a dud. Quinns clock continues to tick.....

I get the "UGA gonna blast us" reaction but anyone buying scUM over ND needs their head examined. I kind of wish we played scUM before UGA - I think we will be a better team as the season progresses and already have high confidence in our ability to handle the skunkbears.
