A few questions and notes.

Offense
Did Lenzy see the field at all?
I like what I see what Keys kid has good hands.
Book was having issues with his accuracy throwing behind Claypool and Keys twice and they bailed him out.

Defense
Hamilton should never leave the field I think him, Gilman, and Crawford are the three guys who will cause the most turnovers this year.

He covers a lot of ground fast. I wouldn't expect him to start given our current safeties, but he's going to see a lot of PT.

Is anyone else concerned that Book's nylon arm sleeve may be contributing to his ball security/ fumbles? He was carrying the ball in the arm with the sleeve both times he coughed it up last night. The fumble he ran into the tight end, in particular, looked like it came out too easily. Those sleeves can't be good for ball security, right?

This reminds me of a poster that wondered if Golson's tinted visor made it too hard for him to see, causing INTs.

Late to the discussion, a 6.5 hour drive after a bourbon binge of a weekend will do that to ya, followed by a FFB draft ln.

I think most are WAYYY overreacting. I'm not one to blow smoke up the team's ass; I thought the sky was falling after weeks 2 and 3 last year after we beat scUM.

This board tends to get knee-jerky. No way the Irish played well enough to earn that top 10 ranking, but they weren't the only team who came out sluggish to start the season. There was an excellent post detailing each game that was still in doubt with over 15 minutes having gone by. Duke down 7 at half to BAMA. scUM only beat MTSU by 19 points.
You're really going to imply that we can't beat them now, because we only beat L'ville by 18? After the first, we outscored those chumps from Louisville 21-3. Lea adjusted extremely well.

It wasn't the blowout we all wanted or some expected. It wasn't crisp. It was rocky and ugly at times. But to sit here and go from saying this is a 10-11 win team to a 6-8 win one after one game is a complete and utter joke. Especially against a new staff on the road. These things happen. We have plenty of time to work out the kinks and get ready for UGA. That's not to say we will win, but we can still be competitive in that one.

We all want answers after week 1. We seldom ever get them. BK made it a point in his presser last week that the ILB situation will continue to evolve as the season progresses. Let it progress.

Idk many fan bases who are feeling supremely confident after their first game outside of maybe Clemson. Even OSU looked weird in the 2nd half against FAU.

Our best players didn't play their best game, and some of our youngsters really showed up and played well in key situations. That to me says we have a ceiling we haven't scratched the surface of yet, with depth to overcome some issues.

I still would like to see the outcome without the offsides penalties on third and long. The lack of discipline there was unacceptable.

Say what you want about Book’s performance, but I was very impressed with the pass he completed to the cheerleader’s face. Pinpoint accuracy.

Classic quote dude!

Herbie thought the crowd was making noise about intentional grounding when they were groaning over her Marsha Brady moment.

The Good:

-Hamilton
-Team speed
-Depth
-Special Teams
-WRs/TE Hands no dropped passes except for the easy screen that our freshman RB dropped
- DBs coverage
-Crawford
McKinnley
-Jahmir Smith (should be our short yardage back)
-Composure of coaching staff
-Lots of young talent seeing the field

Bad:
-Book
-Book
-Tony Jones in short yardage
-Lack of short yardage creativity
-Tackling & tackling
-Missed tackles for loss
-Book lacking poise or pocket awareness
-JOK is going to be a beast but needs to tackle like Jaylong Smith or Manti. Whiffed a number of times.
- White's tackling
-Elliott looking flat footed when faked out and passed by. This happened a lot last year.
-playcalling
-WR separation
-Finke
-RB blocking. I watched TJjr making a real lackluster chip attempt like he was an undersized RB.

We got this teams best shot in their biggest crowd in prime time with no help from the refs (holding?). they have some fast as hell players and a QB who made some nice decisions and runs here and there. If we avoid the offsides and make some missed tackels/sacks in the backfield not sure UL gets close to 17 points. improve the tackling shake off the rust and dominate in a couple of weeks. If Book is a leader he needs to nut up and settle down in the pocket. that looked like a poorly played game by Wimbush without the electric running.
I do not see us having a snowballs chance against Bama and maybe a minor chance against Clemson if we make it thru. I don't like to watch us play against mobile QBS. UGA might be a win for our D against a QB who isn't going to run very often.

We do this to ourselves every year as ND fans.

The hope every year is that we will come out and dominate, especially weaker opponents, like the best teams do.

When we don’t, it’s disappointing and we know disappointment more than success in this new era of football.

The fact that we made it to the CFP last season was not something that most ND fans were prognosticating. When we did, many of the doubters hopped on and now expect us to win a title.

The reality is that we’ve come a long way, but every year is different with Kelly and his players.
This squad will have to respond to a new level of pressure that most recent squads haven’t faced.

Last year, I was confident in our leadership that we would be a very successful football team. This year I am very uncertain.

Who are the true leaders of this team?

Freshmen showed up. Seniors, not so much.

But yeah, like I tell others, these guys are young men, but still basically young pups at life and everything.

Hopefully, the true leaders rise and the team develops positively. Improve every week. That’s my expectation for this team this year.

All True but our D was legit last year and they just missed on a couple of plays here and there with Love out.

What really separated us from the other 3 playoff teams and during that game was the total difference in their QBs being elite and ours not being a legit backup for any of those schools. Wimbush had the tools at a very high level but not the quick read ability or throwing accuracy. Book looked like a deer in the headlights that night and the first half against UL. We are challenged at the LB position, RB position for breakaway but not as big a deal and most definitely at QB with an undersized, under gunned arm at QB. at least that's what his last couple of games have shown and other teams are on to him. if and when we lost a game or two it might be future experiment time for a few positions especially at QB. Kind of awkward since they made him a captain.

Does anyone know why Lenzy doesn’t return punts for us? Is he just not that kind of athlete?

I like Finke, but he’s not much threat back there. Not that the blocking is particularly excellent, so I’m not trying to dog him.

I appreciate his steadiness, but we need some fire, some edge.

Sometimes, I think getting our top athletes in making growing pain mistakes in order to break for heavier strikes is a better exhange than merely steady and stuck.

He is there because he has sure hands and not a threat to give up the FB. Ill take that 1BillionX over a guy who MIGHT score a TD.

You can tell Book cares about his role. Even if he doesn’t pan out for the entire season as starter, I think it was a wise choice to select him as captain. His first game was far from his best, but it’s definitely too early to say he has regressed. He just needs to get back to being the scrapper he is best at being. He’ll have to stand back and take some serious hits to do it. Hopefully, the line can do a better job of assuring him they have his back. I think if they see him willing to sit tight back there to make the right read, they will step up and protect him.

I know why he’s there. But can’t we have both? Hands and a dangerous threat? Do we have a speedster that can do it on our squad?

Talking about ND's punt return unit in the BK era is a useless endeavor. We've had almost 10 years of games to know that he isn't really interested in putting a unit on the field that can bust a punt return.

Goals of Punt Return Unit under BK

1. Don't get burned by fake punt
2. Don't fumble punt return
3. Don't get called for a penalty

That's the entire list.

Exactly. He shut down all the naysayers questioning is deep ball ability

By dint of logic... does this make Ian Book the new "Johnny Bravo"?

Does anyone know why Dick Corbett Is being used to introduce BK in some headlines? I've read it a few times and It's odd without an explanation.

“We actually need our veterans to step up another level of their play, which I’m certain they will,” Dick Corbett Head Football Coach Brian Kelly said. “The good news for me tonight as the head coach is that I think the younger players showed themselves, and that now with all of them together, moving forward, this can be a pretty good football team.”

With Jafar being out I'd like to see more jet sweeps to Lenzy and keys out of the backfield. Even Claypool this is something I didn't see against Louisville.
