Yeah they freaked out. Will make it easy for them to go to every home game.

Seems harsh, but I guess the bar is high:

https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/b...-stock-down-after-bears-first-padded-practice

Stock down: Cole Kmet (TE)

Kmet had a dropped pass and a false start penalty, neither of which will build momentum for the second-round pick's bid for significant playing time in Week 1. Rookie jitters are expected, however, and in 2020's COVID-19 reality, those jitters are even higher than normal. Kmet hasn't had the normal acclimation period that rookies usually get in May and throughout offseason workouts, so it'll take a few practice sessions before he settles in.

Just got his first touchdown for the Bears. Hopefully the first of many.

Just got saved by a forward progress ruling. Gets his first catch of the night and then coughs it up with the Bears trying to score to tie or win with 1:47 left.

Tight end Cole Kmet, the Bears' other second-rounder, didn't have many positives, as he generated only 0.94 yards per route run and a 57.1 receiving grade.Kmet was far from a big-play threat this season. A lot of his production stemmed from schemed slides and speed outs. He generated an explosive reception of 15-plus yards on just 4.3% of his targets. That's the fourth-lowest rate among 446 qualifying tight ends with at least 45 targets in a season since 2006.

Certainly wasn't utilized to his skills at all

IMO was very underwhelming. Very little separation and did not appear to play fast. Definitely the second best TE on the team.

Tight ends are historically some of the slowest to adjust to the NFL. I think a lot of his underwhelming performance can be placed squarely on Nagy and the QB situation in Chicago, and having a very abbreviated pre season program. Still thinking he can turn it around and be a very solid NFL TE

hard to grade any pass catcher in the Bears O
I'd be more than happy to take him in Indy.

Couldn't agree more, especially with Mitch and the scheme making him a check down QB. And as others have said, TEs usually take a big leap towards the end of their rookie deals. Big time adjustment for them in the NFL.

The Bears are the new Browns. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Mitch got out of Chicago and has a good football career. As a draftee, one is probably praying that The Bears don’t select equaling football career suicide.

Kmet, if you’re reading, get as far away from Chicago as possible. Nothing good has come from that place since the 80s.

The Bears have been in one Super Bowl since the 80’s and had that stud QB Rex Grossman!!!! Sorry couldn’t put italics on from my phone.

That's funny. Like the Bears could be the new anything when it comes to bad QB play. We've owned that since WWII.

Now listed as the Bears #1 TE. Trivia for you. How many former ND TE's are listed as active on NFL rosters. Bonus: How many former ND TE's were drafted in the past decade? TE U is alive and well.

I know that Koyack is retired, but what about Niklas? ... Eifert?
Niklas was back at ND finishing his degree in 2020. He's done with football.

Eifert co-owns this bar now lol

Eifert finally retired after battling injuries his entire career. He ended his career w/ the Jags. I believe Niklas had to medically retire a few years ago. Koyack has hung around but I think he’s currently a FA.
