No surprise.

Did ND squeeze everything out of him in the 3 years we had him? Same question with Dexter Williams.

BK doesn't get a lot of elite talent, but when he does, he needs to get more use out of it.

Kyle Hamilton is a good example of him doing this, but K Met and Dexter Williams usage makes no sense to prior to their final year here.

I hope Chris Tyree gets snaps early and often.

Good luck to K Met. He should have a 10 year NFL career.

Wasn't Kmet injured like half of his 3 year career at ND?

No need to fear Koon, plenty of TE's in the stable. Keep in mind Tremble is the most athletic TE on the 2019 roster and he has had very good production this year.

Wish he would have stayed but his choice. Tremble looks promising and we'll see how the other youngsters look. I see Mayer getting playing time from day 1 when he's there.

I wish he would've stayed too because losing him and Claypool together could be tough on Book. Ya know what would help a great deal? Returning 5 talented starters on the O line with an elite O line coach.

It’s pretty difficult to open threads like this where ND fans with football knowledge argue that Cole Kmet and Dexter Williams shouldn’t have been used more. Just because Koon said it, doesn’t mean we have to automatically disagree with it! Dexter and Cole are both elite type talents and we underutilized both of them. The teams that ND strives to be more like on the football field find ways to make players like them an asset to the team for 3-4 years. ND finds a way to get 1.5 good years out of their top talents. We are all excited to see Chris Tyree and argue how much he will play right away, but based on our history he will play limited reps his sophomore year, show glimpses his junior year and finally be that guy his senior year... hopefully he is still at ND at that point.

And watched Claypool and McKinley blocking during practice. He had some whiffs earlier but blew some people up too. Was the last crucial block on TJJ's 85 yarder.

He averaged 9 YPC in 2018 and never fumbled. I'll never be OK with his lack of carries in 2018. Doing that with elite talent limits the offense from reaching its potential.

I hope the Kyle Hamilton approach will be the norm going forward.

WORD!!! It killed me that Adams couldn’t find a way to gain two yards a carry against Georgia in 2017 and we couldn’t get Dex a few quick hits. Dex hits the whole like greased lightning. If he didn’t make it at GB it’s because the couple of studs ahead of him are just hard runnin studs. Kmet didn’t see much action 7ntil this year because we were all waiting for Mack to show up and he didn’t.

Disappointed that Kmet was a bit dishonest leading us all on a la Fuller. Really
Dont see him getting drafted until the third to fourth round. I feel like a lot of ND players have fallen in the draft the last couple of years......Coney? Mack? Dex?

I don’t see Tremble being a number one TE without putting on another quality ten pounds. Hopefully Crawford will step up and come back for us, book cent be too happy about it. I wonder if Kmet was happy or not to see Long get canned?

Glass half full:

First off, congrats Cole. THIS is what every #1 skill position kid coming out of HS should shoot for.

THIS is what ND needs more of... productive, skill position guys going pro early. I'd like to see 2-3 going yearly.

As far as being worried about replacing him? Not me. Brock Wright, Tommy Tremble, George Takacs and Michael Mayer with Kevin Bauman taking a RS is a loaded roster.

Plus:

Tommy Tremble had more production as the #2 TE threat behind Kmet than what Kmet had behind A. Mack in either year. Tommy Tremble is being slept on. HE's next year's big gainer in the passing game in regards to returning players and he'll be used just like Kmet at the Eifert / unattached FLEX.

Who wants some action? I'll take 2020's TE's have as many or more receptions than this year's TE's. (63)

We don't have enough elite players to lose the ones we do have early. The only way ND wins a national championship is if its best players stay 4-5 years.

Mel Kiper has him as the 6th TE? Saw that on the bottom line scroll watching Indiana vs Tennessee.

Lol Kiper. He’s trash. The real scouts have him at #1. NFL feedback was a 2nd rd grade and some think he could possibly even go late 1st if tests well because there are a few teams late in the 1st that really need a solid TE. If he got feedback saying there were 5 ahead of him there would be 0 chance he decides to leave early.

But surprised. He had an okay year with one great game in a loss to Georgia and a bunch of other okay games.

Alize Mack had a better college career. Maybe Kmet should have played more last year but obviously the coaches thought Mack was better.

Time for Brock Wright to get a lot of opportunities. He was higher rated out of school than Kmet.

How so? Because he had more total catches? Kmet has more TD catches this year than Mack did in his entire time at ND. He averaged more YPC than Mack as well. Plus Kmet never got himself suspended.

Lol.

4.71 second run.

Albert Okwuegbunam of Mizzu ran 4.49 & 4.5 at 6'5" 258 lbs.

That time from Okwue.... was just crazy for that size...

I could still see Kmet going late 1st and early 2nd. The NFL likes ND TEs, and it only takes one GM to fall in love. I agree though, 1st is not likely.

As a Colts fan, I would have rather moved up for Kmet than Taylor.... Or Trautman.....

So how scared should Mack be? Got him in a dynasty league and interested to hear what Colts fans think of him and this move.

Purely my belief, but I'd guess they offered Mack a team friendly deal this spring, and he played hard ball. Can't do that with the way big time RBs are getting traded for cheap. Not saying he can't catch, but he simply hasn't.... And he's not a power RB either... And a lot of RBs will look good behind the Colt's OL...

Really scared right now...

I don't like the mileage on Taylor though, and he hasn't caught a lot either. Who knows. I really didn't care for the pick, and not the trade either.
