I believe you. When I applied to ND in the late 60's I had heard of it due to its football program. My mother (a Wisconsin Lutheran) suggested it as a back-up to Dartmouth, Amherst and Brown – schools I was hoping to attend. (My "safety" was Florida – I'd lived in FL since I was 6. I asked her where it was, hoping it was somewhere in the northeast. When she said "South Bend, Indiana" I had to consult the Rand McNally Atlas. I'm forever grateful to her since my choice came down to being Irish or a Gator. Most of my high school classmates in Orlando had no idea where any of the schools I applied to were located – other than Florida, a mere 40 miles from my driveway.
