Would have preferred him going to GA so Bama could roll him four years in a row but now will have to settle for USC blanking him for four years.

Whole thing was handled really, really bad. I understand recruits are on a joyride during recruiting time but this kid really won the title belt. I cant help but root for any team playing Cal the next four years (even if he does pan out which is doubtful considering the massive ego involved).

I don't get how Stanford stringing him along kept him from coming to ND. He still could've committed to us instead of Cal.

Agreed. If he wanted to be here he would have. Correct me if I'm wrong but he never even came back to campus after last Summer's visit.

He can certainly get the education he wants at Cal, and I don't think anyone will push him at receiver, where at ND, you know every year will bring the potential for another 4* or 5* at your position who is ready to take your spot...you gotta want to be at ND...you gotta want the competition...and if you don't, Cal is probably a good call.

Stanford was stringing him along in an effort to let any other school get back in the race, which I think is pretty clear now.

At the time, it was Stanford or ND, and Stanford wasn't a realistic option, so the choice would have been ND.

But, Shaw convinced him to keep taking the SAT to string things out (for no reason), which allowed Georgia and Cal to make up ground.

Of course there is the chance (and probably a good one) that he wouldn't have stuck with ND anyway, had Stanford not played it the way they did. But by giving the kid false hope, they really hampered ND's chances.

I wouldn't believe a word he says. I doubt BK shared info on a recruit with a stranger

He was at an extremely exclusive golf event with BK and some other people that costs lots of $$... don't think guys talk on the course?

Stanford neg recruited ND and got DROB to string out his recruitment. We had momentum and a lead by all accounts in January, but lost it over the next 4 months after pushing for him to sign on NSD.

He also only visited Cal once, so it's not like it ultimately ended up being a factor that he had seen UGA a million times. The bottom line is that the coaches at Cal did a better job of recruiting and selling and making him feel more comfortable, whereas we got out-maneuvered. Oh well.

Right, because remember Georgia has just gone through a coaching change and Cal had a less significant relationship with him at that time. People forget that ND was basically the "by default" choice because he simply wasn't high on anyone else... Bama was on the outside, he wasn't that sold on Georgia Tech, Georgia just had a coaching change, etc. It wasn't until he made it clear he wasn't signing on NSD that Cal really turned it up to 11 and made headway. By getting him to extend the process months, it allowed both Georgia and Cal to make a serious push for his services when we had already used everything we had.

In theory this is true. The reality is another story. Most of the Public Ivy's fall way short on delivering their educational promise of an elite education to their student athletes. All things considered, most have horrible overall graduation rates which are most times (if not 100%) worse for minority students. If I had to put a number on it, I'd put the over/under of Robertson getting a bachelors from Cal at 40%. When I include distance from home, culture shock, the baggage his recruitment weighs on him and lastly... if he ever shows up there at all, I'd be inclined to lower it to 20-25%.

Cal WR commitment Demetris Robertson still hearing from UGA

Robertson says Georgia wide receivers coach James Coley and inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann still keep in touch. Notre Dame and Stanford were also finalists.
Asked if his decision is 100 percent done, Robertson said: “Not really. I can’t really say that until I get on campus.
Robertson didn’t sign a letter of intent so he is officially in the fold when he begins classes. He said he enrolls on June 28.
Georgia wide receiver signee Tyler Simmons from McEachern isn’t holding out hope.
“Chances are slim,” Simmons said Thursday. “I know his biggest thing was education. I know the education at Cal is very great. I was even looking at them at one point and how much they’re low on wide receivers right now. I know it’s a need for them. It’s good for his benefit.”

If all five stars began doing this, that would stop oversigning.

Bear Bryant:
Recruiting is the one thing I hate. I won't do it unless my coaches tell me I've just got to. The whole process is kind of undignified for me and the young man.

We kept in touch, and he still decided to not re-visit. If he truly liked us and he "fizzled out" on us, then that's a funny way of showing any form of interest. You visit every school BUT ND. Me thinks lip service abound. He likes the Bay Area and the prospect of a quality education at Cal (despite the shoddy grad numbers. C'mon now, that hasn't stopped the southern schools from bs'ing their recruits.)

Dude. You know you're talking to THE NDSean45, YoutTube famous, superstar, #1 Univeristy of Notre Dame fan. Obviously he has the recruits phone numbers and DMs them all the time. This guy knows his stuff, man.

I actually read it as the poster and the recruit were in contact -- "we" remained in contact. Glad I misunderstood because that would have been weird.

Beat me to it, bravo!!!!

I'm surprised but also disappointed there were four posts before mine that didn't capitalize. With how often the Dude is thrown out around here, you think it would be everyone's reaction.

I am 100% glad this kid is not Irish, too much of a headache, and I am happy with the wide receivers this team has.

We click on this thread because it's like driving by an accident on the highway. Plus it feels like there is a 50/50 chance he changes his mind at least once before fall rolls around.

agreed; at the same time, we are all hoping that his mind will NOT change to ND.

Really? I'd still take him.
I agree he seems like a total pain in the ass. But one hopes he'll grow up and he's super talented. Worst case he leaves after a year. I'm no fan of transfers but it's not like losing, say, Davonte Neal (maybe the closest comp) somehow sunk the program. Sometimes those kids work out. And you lose 100% of the players you don't pursue.

It's academic though. DRob has done left port.

If he flipped tomorrow, I don't think many people would mind, and most would be pumped. It's like touching a hot stove though. You do it once, and walk away. Unless you are an idiot (like all of us), and touch said stove hundreds of times every recruiting cycle!!!
