Gorney at Rivals is saying he heard USC still thinks they can take two as well. How? Who the eff knows. Still targeting Goodman and McQuay. Likely would only take one of those two though.

1) They help Rodgers not qualify
2) Keep an extra commit on board and boot Massington if he doesn't come back 100% from his injury

Hollywood, you got anything on this?

They've been saying they think they'll be able to take 2 for a while now. But their number is pretty damn set, other than Rodgers being up in the air still, especially with Redd counting against them. They are already over by 1 if Rodgers qualifies, and they are at their ceiling if he doesn't.

So yeah, someone is getting bumped, errrrrr, decommitting. Actually, some of their OOS commits are being judged as 50/50, because you never know with those guys, and most are taking visits.

As for Massington, well, he learned his lesson real quick. He's now saying he'll only visit USC and he'll enroll early in January so he can rehab with their doctors. We'll see if they honor their commitment to him...

Basically an online high school with a real football team. Weird stuff. The founder and funder of the school is the dad of that kid that committed to USC when he was 13.

GGAAAAAWWWWWWWWDDDDDDDDDDDDD.........

Where's Haden on this?? Are these guys actually going to be allowed into USC with no assurance that anything educational happened in "high school" at all?? At a minimum I'd insist upon independently run competency exams for every required subject before "passing" on them.

It's seriously so beyond shady.... it's like taking a street agent, making him super wealthy, allowing him to fund a fake school that is HS diploma mill and football academy, then recruiting football-first kids to that school and then funneling them to college programs of their choice. This is Willie Lyles with a huge bankroll and sophistication.

It's taking the college football system that already has schools that emphasize football with no regard for academics and then inexplicably applying that same standard to high school. Is the USC connection a coincidence? Obviously not. Is it a coincidence that all of the FBS schools players have committed to have zero regard for actual academics much like this fake high school? Obviously not.

This "school" represents all that is wrong with the world of amateur sports.

i remember a previous piece on Red Lion Academy...nice to see they have been humbled. You would wonder if this Sills guy will give a crap anymore once his son graduates..i would worry for the kids left in that wake :/

National Connections is "accredited" but it just feels so dirty. It's like if all the best high school football players decided to be homeschooled and then formed their own club team that scheduled the local high schools.

I found this nice little blurb on their website:

NCAA Approved Courses
In addition to our institution-wide accreditations, many Connections Academy core high school courses are approved by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

So how many is "many?"

We're talking ~10 years though before that happens if his son is 13. 1 scholarship for, at minimum, 10 years of having a street agent with a ton of money funnel top talent to your school? Certainly worth it.

I feel bad for these kids who don't get a real high school experience even if they think they don't want/need it.

When Sills was in 7th or 8th grade and he committed, his dad was interviewed on a local LA radio station. Dude sounded worse than Tiger's dad...way worse.

Don't have time to go into it right now, but do yourself a favor and look up Sills' old school and how shady that whole deal was. I mean BIG TIME shady...and Mr. Sills was thick in the middle of it. And when that whole thing crumbled, they somehow got even more shady at their new 'school'.

Insane...and pathetic.

someone needs to make sure the NCAA knows about this...

This does sound very sketchy indeed, I would like to see how these online classes are handled... "Everyone gets a B-." Now go play football you lazy bum.

His Sills V was 13 when he committed. He's now a sophomore at this 'high school'. So it may be around for another 3 years.

Definitely had the exact thought.

He is likely a senior so it means nothing after this year. They had an open one I believe.

Recommend15Tweet58Comments41EmailPrintLOS ANGELES -- USC punter Kyle Negrete has earned a scholarship for the 2012 season, he confirmed via text message to ESPNLosAngeles.com on Sunday.

More On USC
For more news and notes on the Trojans, check out ESPNLosAngeles.com's blog. Blog
Negrete punted for the Trojans throughout 2011 while a walk-on and proved very able. He pinned 19 of his 39 attempts inside the 20-yard line and didn't kick a single touchback, averaging 40.1 yards overall.

A transfer from the University of San Diego, Negrete redshirted the 2010 season while practicing at both linebacker and punter. He then beat out scholarship freshman Kris Albarado for the starting job before the 2011 season.

USC is under scholarship sanctions from the NCAA and can provide only 75 to current players. The normal maximum is 85.

With Negrete now on the books, the Trojans have at least 72 scholarships already locked in. As USC coach Lane Kiffin has indicated in recent days, three former walk-ons who were given scholarships in previous seasons could now get them renewed to meet the maximum.

But there is also the case of Class of 2012 signee Darreus Rogers, a receiver from nearby Carson, Calif. He signed with the Trojans in February but has not been approved for college competition by the NCAA due to academic concerns.

Rogers has until Sept. 14 to be ruled academically eligible and enroll in classes.

I'm pretty sure that, however it works out, it will be a kid and not the lying, cheating, sneaky, scummy program that gets hurt.

Rogers will no longer be talking with Kiffin as Kiffin has acknowledged he doesn't talk to walk-ons.

Ask Will Andrews.
