Somewhat unrelated question: I'm running a mini at ND the 31st of May, and it ends at the 50 yard line. Do you think they will change the finish line since I'm sure the field will be under construction then?

*I ask because torturing my body for a dozen miles sounded better knowing the reward was "running through that tunnel onto that field."

Oh, that's a good one. Ya know, most of the time, I can at least see why ppl are pissed about it, even if I think it's just shortsighted nonsense.

I don't even know wtf that is trying to say.

I particularly like this. Not only does this guy speak for The Alumni, but he has declared war on the athletic department (or perhaps he believes Swarbrick has declared war on them)

IMO it kills a huge part of the home field advantage.

I don't know, I've never liked the fact we practice on turf but play on a slow, shitty field. Seems like it makes more sense for your practice field and home field to be the same.

This is 100% the crux of the issue and why a change was necessary.

Just visited ndnation.com and apparently they think how shitty the field looked today is part of a conspiracy from Swarbrick and Kelly to change the turf. I can't fathom the stupidity. Of course it's a conspiracy - it has nothing to do with the fact that the Midwest just experienced their most brutal winter in decades.

Its a joke. Couldn't tell by your post if you were in on it or not. I don't think anyone actually cares. Everyone saw this coming, and it was coming for so long it took out any sting there would have been for a handful of people - people who have never heard of twitter, BTW.

I'm not trying to be combative here. What do you mean? How so?

I'm not trying to be combative either by saying this, but my opinion is that although overall team speed is dramatically improving, I still feel we are slower than a lot of the top tier opponents we face each year. I'm afraid turf will magnify that disparity. Couple that with our schedule shifting to more ACC opponents than Big Ten ones (read: more speedsters), and that's why I'm not a huge fan of the move.

I also understand both teams are slowed by longer cut grass, but the thought of a Sammy Watkins type player coming into town on turf makes me more nervous than if the playing surface was more conducive to power football.

The account is fake, but the tweets are taken from real peoples posts on FB.

For those of you not on Facebook. Here are some gems from the comment section on the official post:

"Horrible. Proven to increase injuries. You've got stadiums all over the country pulling up the synthetic and putting down turf again."

"There's something about playing in the mud at that stadium. Sad."

"May as well tear down the stadium and build a brand new state of the art eye sore"

"Horrible decision. Completely changes the character of the stadium. Very disappointed in the BOT and Swarbrick."

When the season starts and the field looks amazing, and the world doesn't end, people will be fine.

All the old geezers can just watch on tv. For crying out loud now the team can actually have some practices where they play games. I thought Golson almost blew his knee out twice today on that crappy field. Welcome to modern times, I hope they have a logo and something modern in the end zones!!!!! Love it.

Here are some more:

"Synthetic grass isn't going to make them win a national championship. The game against Bama was on a synthetic field but ND fails to show up for the game. They were there in body but their mind was on the beach. Synthetic turf made no difference at all."

" Interesting that my girls are watching Shrek tonight where the Domer writers satirized the Disney-fication of "du lac"
ND's board sold out our tradition a long time ago
Be prepared for Jumbo-tron, advertisements, other various perversions and any sort of prostitution of Our Lady they think they can get away with and still have the "loyal sons (and daughters)" paying their tribute."

"Just took jobs away from people. Bad decision."

If I am not mistaken, the turf can be made longer or shorter, depending on what you want. The turf "grass blades" are about 6 inches long & it is filled to the desired height with sand and/or rubber pellets. So, if you want the grass longer, vacuum up some sand. I know Ole Miss does this. For the junior high...I mean Division 1AA opponents, they fill it to where the grass is about a half an inch. For Alabama, LSU, etc, the grass is about 2 inches.

 I found a new person to follow on Twitter. Hilariously sad, but true. The family's season tickets are in the gold seats, and this is thought process is spot on. It's not always a great place to sit. I mean, the view is great, but it can be a pretty quiet place sometimes. On the plus side, if you come for a November game, the blue hairs tend to give their tickets to their kids and grand kids which makes it more fun. Utah game was a blast in 2010, lots of younger faces in the seats.

These are probably the same people who bitch and moan when someone stands up and cheers too loud

They are, oh, they are.

'Bout time for the Field Turf

The whiny-turds over at that other site (you know, the one founded by ND band types) are going ballistic. Even if I wasn't for Field Turf in the first place, their bloated bleating would get me on the Field Turf bandwagon!

Welcome to the 21st century, stadium!

What exactly is an "ND Band Type?" Field turf sounds cool to me......

Sincerely,
An ND Band Type
