For those of you not on Facebook. Here are some gems from the comment section on the official post:

"Horrible. Proven to increase injuries. You've got stadiums all over the country pulling up the synthetic and putting down turf again."

"There's something about playing in the mud at that stadium. Sad."

"May as well tear down the stadium and build a brand new state of the art eye sore"

"Horrible decision. Completely changes the character of the stadium. Very disappointed in the BOT and Swarbrick."

Anyone know if the bolded is remotely accurate? Both the injuries statement and stadiums switching back?

I believe it's already listed on here in one of the many threads dealing with turf over the years. IIRC it was essentially equal (at least when discussing modern FieldTurf). There have been a few places go back to grass but they obviously used an older version of artificial surface.

The only problem I have heard about with the new "Sprint turf" is dealing with MRSA. That was a few years back & a company quickly came out with something that is sprayed in the field like you would a herbicide. You do it 4 times a year & they guarantee no virus or bacteria will live on it.

Only reason I know about the chemical is the rep hits all the coaching clinics that I go to & he gives some pretty good stuff away if you listen to his presentation!

That site is as big a joke as the posters. The interface makes my fucking eyes bleed, and has to predate AOL.

What do you guys think they'll do with the end zones?
Keep the classic white lines or spruce them up a bit?

How about an outline of the 4 horesmen? Or a repeating hologram of Rockne's speech?

Half joking, lol.

IMO, the endzone lines should stay, and I really think a colored Clover or Leprachaun would look amazing.

We have some photoshop/design experts on here. I'm excited to see what they come up with.

Which half was the joke? The 4 Horsemen or the Hologram?

I love holograms.

Hey man, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Lol, hologram would be too much, even for me. I really think a sharp green clover, or Leprachaun would look nice though.

The turf was a huge step, and I wouldn't be surprised if they wait a while to add a logo/jumbotron, but I think both will find their way onto the field. That hologram would be awesome though, for a half time show or pre-game enterance.

I'm so glad they're making the switch, but I think they should keep the look the same.

I hope they create this beautiful scene of an eagle flying down, claws extended to grab a snake that is coiled ready to attack

Wait, what was the question?

So in that video clip, Jack alluded to having different designs on the field throughout the years.

I've never watched a ND game pre-mid 90s (although you probably know this from the Terry Hanratty debacle).

Does anyone know exactly what different designs have been on the field at some point and time?

From our dear colleague, ACross (Spoiler: he doesn't like the turf or Swarbrick)

You are a god damned moron

Love the turf.

LOVE the miserable band of idiots meltdowns on NDN.

Absolutely, although I feel a little sorry for them. Their ignorance and crotchetiness knows no bounds.

That site is as big a joke as the posters. The interface makes my fucking eyes bleed, and has to predate AOL.

Amen.

I honestly went there to read the thread...but that wasn't the only one posted. Theres literally no less than 12 threads dedicated to Field Turf bitching in the last few days. There very well could be more than 12 threads, but the layout is so awful and old that you'd never know otherwise. At first it was funny to see so many threads about the same subject, but then it just got sad and almost frustrating. Theres no data to support their claims that grass is better, theres no evidence posted that it's safer, theres absolutely no facts what-so-ever.

The closest point they can arrive to is that NFL teams prefer grass (Only 3-4 of them play in the Midwest or New England area though) and "some teams have actually gone back to grass after artificial like Northwestern." They fail to mention that Northwestern used the old 70s artificial turf that was ancient and awful. That stuff is a far cry from the surface they use today. Instead of providing facts and evidence that grass is better, they clamor about the field conditions at the Blue Gold game being deliberately left ruined to help make a case for the change to Field Turf. "Swarbrick probably unceremoniously fired the grounds keepers months ago." "My lawn looked a lot better than that field did after this winter." Yeah, cause your yard has 22 guys in cleats running on it for hours on end in the rain, ranging in weights from 200-350 lbs. Everything is a conspiracy. Jumbotron is next, then the Apocalypse shortly after.

This is 100% the crux of the issue and why a change was necessary.

I also like :

1) Avoiding the cost of an irrigation and drainage system, that with the anticipated stadium upgrades would be astronomical;

2) Now the team can practice in the stadium any time they want;

3) They can use turf to cover the warning track, and other obstructions, avoiding fiasco's like the one that befell Michael Floyd at Michigan a few years ago.

Excited for the field turf, not excited for any sort of logo. Keep it plain with stripes. Sometimes saying nothing is more powerful than saying something.

Central Catholic, DKizer's high school, who are the Fighting Irish also, do a cloverleaf in a circle at midfield that really looks good. As long as whatever isn't garish, and usually ND keeps it down. Besides, I doubt with the administration's eye on preservation of fans already irritated by the change that they would go too far out . . .

I agree. I'm all for changes that will help the team's performance and/or recruiting. I don't think a logo does either of those.

All the old geezers can just watch on tv. For crying out loud now the team can actually have some practices where they play games. I thought Golson almost blew his knee out twice today on that crappy field. Welcome to modern times, I hope they have a logo and something modern in the end zones!!!!! Love it.

I thought the rendition w/ the shamrock at mid-field that ND put out w/ their renovation announcement looked fine. I don't think something small and un-obnoxious matters all that much either way, but it looked good, IMO.

I understand your point, but I think if you see a few mockups, you might think twice about it. ND has a very distinct color set that could look pretty awesome.

I could get behind this. Do a logo, or something in the endzone, but not both. I'd be fine with just the shamrock like this, I think it looks good.

I like the idea of a logo, but tasteful. I have no worries that they won't make it appealing. I hope for those against the idea of turf realize that when the stadium was built it probably had the modern touches of its day. Traditions don't have to end, and what's wrong with new ones they all start from somewhere. The field has been horrible as we all know. I don't know if the field plays as much in the outcome of the game as some may think, but sure get pissed when it hurts us. Go Irish looking forward to another chapter in this great story of Notre Dame.
