If I'm not mistaken, only coaches can participate in recruiting that does not happen on the university campus. former players (which Haden is) and athletic directors (which Haden is) are not permitted to play a role in the recruiting process.

My understanding was that the AD can participate in recruiting when the team does not have a full coaching staff. USC lost their DB coach recently, right?

And some people seem to think the sister's status is relevant, but I'm not sure it is ... Haden was there to recruit Eddie, not the sister, right? Or did he offer her the scholarship himself on that occasion?

Not sure of all the details but I doubt there's an NCAA violation here.

Him being a former player doesn't matter? or does the fact that he is the AD trump that? I honestly have no idea, but seems like I've seen a lot of stories in the past about former players being called in to help seal the deal on recruits and getting busted for it. Deion Sanders and Noel Devine springs to mind.

No, his being a former player doesn't matter, not when he's the athletic director. By that rationale Ron Powlus, when he was ND's QB coach, could never participate in recruiting. Or Spurrier, when he was at Florida, would not be allowed to recruit.

But Powlus and Spurrier were coaches. Haden isn't so that's what I was thinking. I'm probably wrong, but it was one of the first things I thought of when I heard this story. Seems to me that when Powlus was working for ND but not yet a coach, he was allowed to have contact with recruits, but anywhere outside the campus was out of bounds. Either way, I hate USC.

Haden wishing he had never left the NBC booth. Now he has to deal with this disaster known as USC.

Can it actually be a good thing that La'Rue is not visiting this weekend as it relates to EV? Having a recruit there that isn't "all in" and excited to be there could have possibly affected EV's visit. Then again, if La'Rue came to ND this weekend and was ready to dismiss us, and was then won over -- that too could play into how EV views ND.

Why do I follow recruiting?

I too was concerned about the vibe during the joint OV. One "wrong" loud voice could effect the others on the trip. I still believe that his mother coming works in our favor..though we will have to keep her warm.

If there was anyone from USC's class that I wanted with EV this weekend, it's Prevot. But obviously that's not working out.

I've officially lost trak of who will be there now with EV this weekend. I guess that's a question?

Also hilariously bad substance tweet.

If a five star player committed to ND I really think it would help their class ranking.

He's really going out on a limb there. Dude is a tool. There aren't many at 247, but he's definitely one of them.

I don't want to totally sidetrack the thread, but maybe someone can PM me. What was the controversy all about with him last week. I saw the founder and CEO of 247 had to start a thread to apologize, and JC had his own thread to explain how he wasn't a hater or whatever. But nobody ever really mentioned what happened to start all of that. I guess it had something to do with a radio show? It must have been bad for Shannon to get involved.
