For what it's worth JessePalmer said on College Football Final that wimbush played a good game and did exactly what he needed to do to win and to not let the stats say otherwise.

I agree.

he also put ND in their top 4 last night, I think ESPN is starting the hype train for ND which I don't like

Wimbush needs to take a little off the ball sometimes. He throws it so hard that it's hard to catch it sometimes

Why is everyone referring to "his jump ball" as play of the game?

His best play was easily his 3rd and 18 running conversion for 22 yards. He put the whole damn team on his back on that run... He also dropped his shoulder and WANTED contact. He laid a hit on that defender.

Freaking awesome run at a huge moment.

Lol, of course it wouldn’t be good enough. That was by all accounts a top 5 defense we carved up for 3 qtrs.
What 3rd quarter did you watch? We had one long drive but I'd hardly say we "carved up" the defense.

To be fair, the play at 5:30 left in the quarter was tremendous.

Wimbush was 54.5%, had just 1 TO, somehow got sacked just twice (Book would have been sacked 10 times) and WON vs the team your own company told us was one of the TOP 3 defenses since the 85 Bears... or something. Are you taking a stand against your company? Be careful or Donald and Goofy will escort you out on Tuesday morning.

Wimbush did what Wimbush needed to do to beat Michigan and what is in all seriousness, a top defense. And that's something 60% of the folks here didn't think he could do.
I wasn't making a Book vs. Wimbush argument, nor was I especially upset with BW's performance. I was responding to a post that said he was our #1 offensive player of the game. He was fine. He wasn't "game ball" great.

If not Wimbush, then who?

Scoring a Td/quarter versus a top 5 defense, which is the pace we were beating is damn good. Through 3 qtrs. You clearly have weird expectations of what was supposed to happen yesterday.

How’d you vote the game to go?

There's no middle ground with you people, huh? I'm happy with the way the team played yesterday, full stop. You're acting like anything less than booking tickets to the Orange Bowl is dumping on the team.

That’s oretty rich coming from the guy that said Wimbushs best play of the night was an ill-advised pass. Just sayin

I don't remember if I made a prediction, but it went about the way I expected. Our defense was much better than I expected, our special teams much worse. Offense was about where I thought we'd be overall, but we got there in a different way. I expected we'd be successful running for 5 yards but struggle making big plays. The opposite was true. I think success for the rest of the season depends on the OL coming together.

I'm not convinced Michigan's defense will prove to be as elite as everyone has been saying.

Well, you called for 9-4, was this was of the projected losses you had?

Hmm - I am genuinely curious who you felt was the best offensive player if it wasn't BW.

I was ignorant, for some reason I had in my head that we had our road game at Georgia this year. So make that 10-3. But I hadn't picked specific losses.

Wimbush did get the gameball and IMO deserved it. In the first half, when Long called a good game letting him go vertical, he threw for 67% on 10/15 for 147 yards and 1 TD. The second half, we got way too conservative throwing the ball and his stats reflected it. That is when he took over with his legs to make sure we were victorious.

After the game Finke specifically noted they need to work on sealing the deal going forward. That's not a team with goals of ten wins. I'm excited. Having 3 games to build that mentality then head into stretch run.

There's reason for optimism.

He bought some time a few plays later and found claypool open for another big gain. Big drive that kept Michigan off the field and put three points on the board. Game could have ended differently without that run and throw. Wimbush is one of the only qbs in the country and certainly the only one on the roster that can make those two plays.

I don’t know why people are complaining about Wimbush. He played quite well. Only a couple bad passes. Several very very good ones. And, of course, his legs. He still has work to do, but if he can play like that all season we’ll win a bunch of games. My biggest concern is he gets killed running it so much.

We probably won't face a better defense in the regular season, so I'm okay with how things went last night for the most part. Thought we played a little too conservative in the 2nd half last night, should have stepped on their throats, but oh well.

Overall very very happy with the outcome. Wimbush played well enough to get the win. O line was good enough to beat 123 teams in the country. D played great for getting very little rest between series. Running backs were hard to judge. Wideouts made several catches that were 1 in 3 or less catches.props for that. Coaching in the 2nd half makes me wanna pull my hair out. Also hard to tell if wimbush took a step back in the 2nd half or the play calling made him fail. Again happy with the win but o only think we win that game 5 times out of 10. 2 in the big house.

Whether it’s right or wrong, this team believes it can win a championship. That’s the goal and focus. I wouldn’t handicap it as such, but I also don’t think it’s completely out of the question. Meaning, I think they could be a top 5-7 team. Which puts them close

Was only able to follow the game on game cast here in Ireland. Did any freshmen make an appearance? Do you expect some next week?

Can’t say for certain on everyone, but I know that Austin (WR) and Griffith (S), got run time. Saw Bauer on ST’s. And I’d assume others as well. Just don’t have that by memory

JAyson A played some after MTA went down. I assume he’ll move into the 4 spot in the DT rotation

He held up pretty well for a true fresh on the line.. ... wasn't a drop off with him in the game

That appears to be the plan.

“Jayson will be put in a high-leverage situation,” Kelly said. “Micah Dew-Treadway will get some snaps. We’ll cross-train Jonathan Bonner, as well. I think that’s probably the plan of attack, Jayson getting more snaps. We have a lot of confidence in Jayson. He’s ready to play really good football for us.

I didn’t see any freshmen on the field besides Austin, Jayson A and Griffith. But I’d suspect some showed up on special teams. I bet more will play next week if we get a big lead. No reason not to with the new four-game rule.

Great way to start the season Irish. Plenty to work on but overall it appears ND could be in the hunt for a playoff run. Don’t want to get too far out front and over analyze things but watching the replay I saw more that I liked than I didn’t like and I will take that every time.
