ESPN`s power index or whatever they call it has Texas winning the game by a few points. I believe I saw that on the college daily show

True Freshman vs Deshone Kizer. Give me Kizer and his team all day

Just have to get through the storm of the first quarter because Texas will throw us a bunch of tricks with their new OC. Van Gorder has me worried sick though about this. PLEASE for the love of god simplify this game for our defense and try not to be to cute. We are going to be playing against a true freshman

BVG on the hot seat imo. I don't trust him either but he's been decent when given time to prepare for an offense and he has a healthy roster. So for this game, he gets the benefit of the doubt from me. Texas is not good. Idk why ESPN would even consider them winning. ND has the pieces to beat them like they did last year.

Was just in Texas, everyone I talked to has no confidence in this matchup.

Also, wouldn't simplifying the defense make it easier on a true frosh qb in his first start?

Key is to stop the run and force this kid to beat us by reading D and having to chuck it all over. I got one hope we don't go Diaco simple.

They are running the Baylor scheme on O now, reading the D, audibles etc aren't gonna be a huge part of it. It's freshman QB friendly.

Im not sure where i read it, but did Texas just lose a running back to an injury from a car accident?

I definitely think they will be tougher than last year and the crowd should be pretty good but this won't be anything new for this Notre Dame team. I have all the confidence in the world that BK, Kizer, and company will be ready to roll.

Yeah, it'll be tougher than last year, maybe only 35-6 this year. Good grief, ND is going to roll again.

Not gonna lie.. Don't trust this D. Texas wins.

Devin Gardner in '14... Kevin Hogan in '14... Swoopes in '15...

BVG's defense eats first-year starters for lunch early in the season. (Matt Johns doesn't count.)

Texas will make some plays early by virtue of having nothing on film for ND to prep for, but BVG will have some nice things dialed up to use in a timely fashion against the freshman, and BK will have the offense eating up ground and taking the passion out of the crowd.

I agree, stop the run and force the frosh to beat you. Meanwhile, control the ball on offense, and don't turn the ball over. I'll take a 1 point win and move on.

It may be a bit closer than last year, but ND should win this comfortably.

I find solace in the fact that our lines should be demonstrably better than those of Texas, especially on offense. We're fretting about which former 4* upperclassman will play RG. Meanwhile they are starting multiple underclassmen along the O-line. Remember the last time Jarron Jones faced a freshman Center, he ate the kid alive on national TV. I predict many collapsed pockets in Texas's future.

This. I feel good about the game with a healthy defense and time to prepare, but it's unfortunate that Texas has a new scheme that we won't really have film on. If it is the freshman that gets the start that's certainly good for us, but this should be an improved Texas team all the same. It will certainly be closer than last year. We have to keep in mind that they were able to upset a good Oklahoma team that went to the playoffs last year.

Honestly, Oklahoma wasn't that good to begin with. The whole Big XII in a nutshell was ridiculously overrated, and Oklahoma hadn't hit their stride until after their gutcheck in the Red River Shootout.

Yet they did enough on paper to pass us up with the playoff committee even before the Stanford loss. While they faced crappy competition, they still hung 50-60 points on several teams last season. They faltered against Texas, but that's something that can happen with any rivalry game, and they were smoked somehow in the 2nd half by a locked in Clemson team after being up at halftime (Conversely we were smoked by them in the first half). They were better than you give them credit for, although I agree that the Big XII is very overrated.

Looking at this game, thinking about the matchups in the trenches and the fact Texas may be going with the freshman at QB...I'm thinking we need to come out aggressive here and punch them in the mouth. The crowd will be rocking for this game in Austin. Based on what some are saying, they're DL should have some question marks going into the game, I think we can exploit that. Offensively their OL may be no better than last year, or the difference will be negligible. Lets press their receivers at the line, let our DL get to the QB and rattle him early. It'll help take the crowd out of the equation.

They are young on the offensive line and probably have a frosh at qb? I'll edit my prediction to Irish by 21.

Heard Rick Neuheisel(hated him as a coach/love him as an analyst) breaking down the BIG XXII today. His take on Texas was they will be much better this year but it will take some time for them to gel. Thinks ND will win this game big again this year.

It's getting close...

If they game was in Nov I would be more worried... Fresh jitters and us rolling an experienced offense should = double digit win

I have flashbacks of Tate Forcier going ham on us as a true frosh. I trust no one.
