I'd say:
Yankees for MLB
Lakers for NBA
Cowboys for NFL
Irish for CFB
Blue Devils for CBB
Bonus: Red Wings for NHL

NBA = Celtics. Leprechaun, Clover and only one championship each since '88.

NFL = The Steelers have 2 SB's wins in the last 10 years, They're out. Pats don't have the history, they are living their era w/ Brady. Cowboys are in a drought but they're still 3-0 since '88. Like ND, the Bears have just one championship since '85 and lost in their only other appearance in a championship game... both in the last 10 years. I'll say it's somewhere between the Bears and the Packers. Yes, the Pack has 2 SB's since '88 but they have a championship loss, have a golden era that built a national fanbase and the green and yellow is working on me being I'm a child of Montana's Green Machine era..

CBB = Duke & UCLA. Love them, hate them but you don't ignore Duke. UCLA, lots of success in 60's - 70's but 1-1 in Championship games since '88.

NHL = Habs all day. Hawks and Wings might feel right but they've won too much in recent times. The Habs owned the 60's and 70's and have the same 1-1 record as the Irish in championships since '88. If you are a hockey fan who's late 40's+, you love or hate the Canadians.

MLB = Much like CBB this is a curious cross between the Yankees and Cubs for entirely opposite & obvious reasons.

I catch shit for being a Yankee Fan, ND Fan, and Blackhawk fan. I'm told I only like winners. I dispell this because I'm also a Cleveland fan for all sports and only the Blackhawks have won anything in a long time.

Def Duke... and I'm not in that group I am in the 'spot in my heart' crowd with Duke but yeah, they get way more heat than they really should... I don't know that I've ever met a single person that flat out HATES UK...

I think historically you can say the Habs in hockey but it's been so long since they've been 'that team' that a lot of younger fans do tend to look towards Detroit.

Hi, I'm Crusader. Now you have.

More will chime in. Too many Hoosier guys on this board. It's DNA level in Indiana.

UK and SC can go to Sonic and eat a bag of chilli cheese d!cks.

IIRC*, ND (at least under Malloy) has been very explicit about not wanting someone who could be perceived as an Irish homer broadcasting our games. So it sort of makes sense that they'd pick media personalities who are associated with our rivals (USC, BC, UM, etc.), since they've already got a history with us.

*Paging BGIF

You recall correctly!

Malloy was firmly opposed to an ND former player or alumni calling the games. He did not want NBC being called the ND Network. He succeeded by limiting the talent pool.

I always felt ND should have taken a positive approach and fought for a professional announcer that was knowledgeable with ND's mission, policies, academics excellence, and the impact of those things regarding on the field performance.

I never understood why USC, BC, and other ND former opponent players were deemed suitable (neutral) but any ND grad couldn't be considered to call a game when they could be a professional in any other field.

An ND grad could call a game with excitement and knowledge without exhibiting homerism.

Agreed. I don't really understand it either. But it looks like Malloy's policy has been carried forward by Jenkins.

Not just Indiana...in the Commonwealth of Kentucky you are either a part of Big Blue Nation or you hate the Cats. I hate the Cats.

I think Aaron Taylor could call a game for us and be unbiased. Maybe Quinn could, not sure though. I think Bettis couldn't be unbiased. That said, I understand why they may not want an ND grad to call a game...but do they always have to pick our fuckin' rivals?!

He's young, but maybe one day Jac Collinsworth could do it. Obviously another alumnus, but would kind of be cool.

Texas board pointing out VanGordor's struggles with Spread, Up Tempo teams in his career...

Also, looking more and more likely Swoopes gets the start, but Buchele will see time like Heard did last year.

I say we pound the damn ball, eat up clock like we did against LSU.

Swoopes is so bad. I hope that's the case.

But they have a point about BVG. Very underwhelming lately

I'm a younger fan so I don't have the full scope of history as others but I've met more people who hate/love the Lakers then the Celtics.

I stand by my statement on Dallas. I've never met anyone who is meh on the Cowboys, you either love em or hate me.

I forgot about the Habs and could see why they'd be that team in NHL

I'd still say Duke over UCLA and Kentucky but I understand why people would have them as that team.

Either way Go Irish!

I would definitely describe myself as meh on the Cowboys. But its been trending up ever since Zach Martin got signed.

I do absolutely DESPISE Duke, but many people have pointed out that I hate them for almost the exact reasons I love ND football, which is annoying.

Tirico will be good on play-by-play, but he does love Michigan/hate ND... so add another to the list.

ND also added former Michigan linebacker Dhani Jones to the pre-game. I don't really get it.

As long as they're not like Desmond...I'll be fine. I like Mike doing the play by play. Who is his partner? It isn't still Flutie...is it?

Appropriate post from the ND Athletics Facebook:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wlUd1Up3V8A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Texas gushes about Earl Campbell, but he was contained on that day. Longhorns were crushed 38 to 10.

Texas loves to go back to this video from the '96 game too, Westbrook's hit on Kinder:

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YsV6DxCapa0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

But yeah...we won that game too.

Give me Golic. I'm sure he wouldn't mind calling ND games 6-7 times a year. Assuming it's not a possibility as long as he's employed by Disney?

This one is a tough one. Having lived most of my life in Southern Ohio, the hatred for KY in that part of the country(OH, IN, TN, Western KY, WV, PA) is really, really strong - much greater than the hatred for Duke. Now, living in the south, it is the exact opposite. I am curious which of those two schools is more hated out west(AZ, CO, KS, etc).

I can see swoops starting the game. no he's not be best passer but spread the defense out and let him run it could help UT out on offense.

yeah that game plan against LSU was perfect, play smash mouth football with a few passes sprinkled in and just play ball control.

I think Tirico will be GREAT. Whether he likes Michigan or not, he is and always has been a professional.

He even did a great job with the World Cup, I am VERY excited to hear him on an ND game

Duke.

as I have said, no one out here hates UK... they may hate on Cal or a recent team, but not the program as a rule... As I have said, I have never once met a sport fan that holds UK as THAT TEAM.

Why do we say he likes Michigan. You all know he went to Syracuse right?
