Tirico will be good on play-by-play, but he does love Michigan/hate ND... so add another to the list.

ND also added former Michigan linebacker Dhani Jones to the pre-game. I don't really get it.

Apparently there's not enough friction coming from the Jesuits in Chestnut Hill these days to make NBC happy.

IIRC*, ND (at least under Malloy) has been very explicit about not wanting someone who could be perceived as an Irish homer broadcasting our games. So it sort of makes sense that they'd pick media personalities who are associated with our rivals (USC, BC, UM, etc.), since they've already got a history with us.

Why doesn't NBC realize the people watching ND on NBC are ND FANS?

I usually end up watching the games on mute because the announcers are so bad. Hopefully Tirico is like he is on NFL broadcasts.

That's the issue though, they already have a powerful draw for ND fans to watch. NBC's concern is getting people to watch who are neutral towards or dislike ND.

Anyway, I don't think anybody has treated ND unfairly in the booth and Tirico has always been excellent doing NFL stuff.

I actually really like Dhani Jones. He's entertaining as hell.

But yeah, the MICH connection sucks

Just watched last year's highlights. Hopefully the UT o-line is Swiss cheese like last year's. Not having Will Fuller sucks.
yeah, fuller was the reason teams couldn't load the box to stop the run last year. they were scared to death of fuller running past them to the endzone.

I rewatched last years game as well and I forgot that ND scored on every possession they had except their last possession of the game.

He did that anyway

I LOVE this. BK taking a stand until told otherwise. How it should be. No more frozen five bullshit.

I missed this earlier.

I think it's more about the fact that the Frozen Five was an eligibility thing. BK couldn't play them until he knew if the school would deem them academically cleared or not. If he would have played them, and then the school decided to blow up their academic profiles, it suddenly becomes a case of ND playing ineligible players. That's when the NCAA gets involved and sends down punishment.

In this case, it's not an eligibility issue. They can play until the punishment is decided.

I guess it depends on how you define 'unfair'... openly cheering on air when ND loses, as Pat Haden did a few times is not something that should happen on a ND broadcast and could be taken as 'unfair'... at least imo

I don't recall any of those instances, but I didn't pay as much attention when he was calling games as I do now.

Now, Flutie on the other hand? Guy's a total troll. Doesn't even try to hide it. If the other team is doing well, he's got plenty to say and plenty to talk about. When ND is making plays, he's completely silent, and color commentary is suspiciously absent.

I guess everyone hears what they want to hear... I don't have a problem with Flutie.. even though I liked Mayock much better... Flutie does a decent job

Haden pissed me off numerous times... lose a close game on a heartbreaking play, sit there in stunned silence and all I hear is Haden gleefully failing to hide his excitement and joy.

Part of the problem is pretty much everyone hates ND. Never met a college football fan who is indifferent. They either have a soft spot for ND or they are haters.

I guarantee at least one, possibly more, WR double passes in this game... at least half the teams we played against last year used it against us with success... I see no reason why Texas wouldn't assume it wouldn't work now.

Max Redfield isn't playing.

...and obviously the Celtics of college football but who most resembles the Irish in the NFL? Chicago, Green Bay, Pittsburgh or Dallas?

I'd say:
Yankees for MLB
Lakers for NBA
Cowboys for NFL
Irish for CFB
Blue Devils for CBB
Bonus: Red Wings for NHL

In terms of how national fans feel about us? The Patriots.

I thought about adding them but they don't have the iconic history of championships.

I live in Cali and AZ and can take you to Bears, Packers, Steelers and Cowboy bars, I don't know where a Patriots bar is without Google.

I would say Kentucky for CBB

Def Duke... and I'm not in that group I am in the 'spot in my heart' crowd with Duke but yeah, they get way more heat than they really should... I don't know that I've ever met a single person that flat out HATES UK...

I think historically you can say the Habs in hockey but it's been so long since they've been 'that team' that a lot of younger fans do tend to look towards Detroit.
