Since when have you ever waited for a reliable source to become worried? If there is even a sniff of bad news your worry-meter goes insane lol. I've never seen someone react to even slightly bad news like you do bro.

Didn't say that I waited until a reliable source...I was told by by a mod that I needed to wait until news was confirms by a reliable source before I freaked out (didn't work but still) now I'm just wondering if we should do the same thing that a mod told me to do before we got too excited. Just saying but whatever. Hopefully good news comes of this. I don't think I was the only one to freak out on this board with this news.

@greghoward88 is normally a guy a really like but he went off the deep end yesterday, too. For that matter so did Mandel with his scathing piece. There isn't much you can do. People love scandals and they really love them when "holier than thou" entities are involved. It sucks but what are you gonna do?

I try to think bigger as much as possible though. The interwebs bring out the worst in people. Tonight I had dinner with two of my buddies that are pretty big Michigan fans though, and they both got it. One of them even defended Notre Dame when one of my other buddies sent an idiotic group text trying to dog us. There are bad seeds everywhere... but there are good seeds everywhere too. I'm going to try to focus my time discussing this kind of stuff with the people interested in having honest dialogue about it.

ND brought this on themselves. Just horrendous PR following horrendous decisions.

This is a complete non-issue if just phrased differently. It's pathetic and stupid and INVITES all of the misinformation and bullshit.

If they come out now and say "yeah so not actually the biggest deal..." people are gonna go "NUH UH COVERUP" and the NCAA might follow up and who knows.

It's really this simple... you shine the black light on the motel room, you're going to see stains. If what ND is doing right now was done at every college across the country the results would be insane. ND is going to absurd depths to find evidence of cheating from years ago that mostly pertains to people who aren't even in school anymore... and wasn't ever caught when it happened.

Since GK brought this info up Thursday night it's been a really interesting timeline. All of a sudden everyone is an expert when as of Friday AM no one knew jack shit. From people I do trust, this entire situation is comical and fuck the ND admin for being a bunch of self-destructive cunts.

Agreed. The two best pieces I read we're from John Walters (nd alum so maybe he doesn't count) and Andy Staples. The conversation to be had here is nuanced, and, frankly, important. I'm not shocked that Michigan fans aren't interested in that convo. Hopefully your part of Michigan is open to the convo and you don't have to deal with idiots

I dunno. They were right to get ahead of the story. Once they told the NCAA, it was only a matter of time before gets out there. And as Te'o and Lizzy Seeburg taught us, you're better off breaking bad news yourself than having TMZ or the Chicago Tribune break it over your head.
But, yesterday's press conference didn't help matters. Jenkins really had nothing to say, and like Kanye said, having him run it gave the episode a heft it maybe doesn't warrant. Swarbrick did his Swarbrick thing, and that's fine. But a press release probably would've covered it. Then let Kelly do the "we're moving on" bit at his next media availability.

I think no matter how it was handled by ND, local and national media, fans, haters, alumni, and members of IE wouldn't have liked how it was handled.

You're not wrong. You've stated it stronger than I would but I basically agree. I'm willing to lay off some of the blame to the NCAA office, though. Maybe you have different info but what I've heard is that ND thought they had it contained and the watershed leak came from the NCAA. Obvi message board posters had it but the mods would have contained it.

If anybody wants to go into full body heaves. Go check out mgoblog's thread on this. The amount of misinformation, assumptions and general mouth-breathing is at an all time high. They literally give zero shits on whether they actually understand the situation. It's the usual shit for over there, but makes me want to vomit either way.

I didn't see a link, so I tried to search for MGoBlo and I got this:

The last thing I'll say on this...

The ONLY way people remember this 5 years from now as anything more than a couple kids getting caught cheating is if we vacate wins.

If our administration is dumb enough to vacate wins in any scenario short of the NCAA saying "yeah, you had a violation and need to vacate" they should be summarily fired.

Apparently you've stopped answering questions - and I agree we needlessly boxed ourselves in on the topic - but who gives a shit about vacating wins?
I was at the Stanford game in 2012. It was the best college football game I've ever attended, no matter if Kendall Moore might have gotten a tutor to help on a paper. And we won.

No comment on the point being made, but I have to comment on the game.

The first game my baby bro (he's 20 but he will always be baby bro) attended was the Stanford game. I got him a student ticket and he, CraigKrenzel, and I were 40 rows up, on a direct line, from the goalline. That game was incredible and nothing will every replace the feeling I had when our D stuffed them at the goalline. My brother couldn't give a shit less about football but he talks about that game all the time.

Vacated wins are embarrassing and they would drop us below Michigan on the win percentage list, but it doesn't REALLY matter. I still love ND and the memories are forever.

Yeah, vacated wins are pretty stupid in the grand scheme of things (Except for Penn State, those guys deserved it). In cases where a player has cheated or taken benefits, chances are the coaches don't know. Maybe they do, but it's impossible to police 85+ players 24/7. When you vacate a win it's like limbo or some crap...USC may not be able to count their win against us in '05, but that doesn't mean we can count it as a win for us now either. At the same time, if we were to vacate games from 2012, people will still have their memories from watching and attending those games, kinda silly to say "They never happened." I just don't see the point in punishing a whole team for the errors of a few players.

I view this as ND trying to gain control of the situation as fast as possible. They opened an internal investigation and I assume contacting the NCAA is SOP. NCAA has leaks and it leaked. I don't think they had any intention to do a press conference but with information ranging from dismissals to vacating wins to 22 former players, I don't think they had a choice.

I completely disagree. Penn State vacating wins makes very little sense to me because what went on there was only tangentially related to the football program. The people involved deserve every piece of justice that the state of Pennsylvania can dish out, I just don't get what vacating wins has to do with it.

If this guy saying DD and KVR will be cleared is right, either: (a) They weren't involved in what I was told they were involved in; or (b) ND is not investigating what I was told they were involved in.

c) there's a way they may be able to get out of what they were involved in

What were you told they were involved in?

Doing the deleting from my phone so sorry if I missed anything. I believe for the safety and well being of a girl that we don't know, it is best to not post anything that tries to name the alleged tutor.
