It is a privilege to watch Jaylon Smith play. Kid is scary good. He will be a all time college football great if he stays another year.

52 rushing attempts tonight, that's all I need to know about this offense moving forward. Well done BK, our team is as good as you made them sound and they were so dialed in to play tonight. Played fast and with confidence and I say the coaching staff had a lot to do with this. Jaylon Smith also is just a complete boss

Have not had a chance to watch closely on tv yet, but impressions from inside the stadium...

Malik showed the poise and composure that people have talked about since the elite 11, way back when he was still in high school. Leading comes very natural to this young man and the stage is not too big, the lights not too bright!

CJ and Josh really were locked in and stepped up big time when Folston went down. Really hoping it is not too serious. Playing Dexter was not a good sign IMO, I was hoping we could give him a year to develop, even though he is very impressive with the ball in his hand.

Oline was very dominant. Between them and the tempo, UT's dline was really getting worn down and pushed around. Lot of push on the right side of the line.

Receivers played well. Will and Breezy are going to give defenses the blues a lot this year.

Defense played exceptionally well. Guys were disruptive, we were getting pressure with four, we looked very stout and very fast. JAYLON is a heck of a football player, and appears to be just as fine a young man. The safeties did well. We have tough gentlemen.

Loved hearing Kev and Mattias' name so much on kick coverage. They set the bar high for the younger guys that are trying to make their mark on special teams. The kickers are going to be just fine.

Coaches did a great job, the team was prepared to play some football today. If we get better every day from here we will be in a playoff game.

This was Not one of the great Texas teams of the ND/UT Cotton Bowl games but it wasn't Alcorn St either.

While other teams were rolling up 500+ yard games against 60 some odd scholarship players in Div 1AA, ND thrashed a very good coach and solid program. Their players are young but they still hold Div 1 scholarships, and have Div 1 size and speed.

ND's star RB went down 6 minutes into the game and yet 9 ND backs carried the ball 52 times for a solid increase of last season's running performance.

Frequently ND OLs were in the second level blocking people.

Zaire had the second most efficient day passing hitting over 86% of his passes. And there were dinks and dunks. He hit 5 different receivers for gains of 17 yds or more. He averaged over 14 yds per attempt. One of the best performances in ND history.

Zaire used his Pass Pro and didn't rush his throws. He wasn't rushed but when he saw the play ... he executed swiftly. No time for defenders to recover.

NO Turnovers

In the game thread some people were lamenting the inordinate number of penalties. Actually there were 6 for 39 yds according to the stats. Last year ND average 4.5 penalties a game for 37.5 yds/game. And this was the season opener when penalties are expected. I can remember games in the not so distance past where ND seemed to have a half dozen Pass Interference Penalties as welll as that many Delay of Game Flags.

I was impressed with Team Speed on both sides of the ball.

I was also impressed with the defense's containment. They boxed runners into the tackler. No lost jocks. Only one big pass play and there was double coverage forcing the QB and WR to make an excellent play rather than a gimme coverage bust. I didn't see the, "I thought that was your man", miscommunication of last season.

I like Yoon and Newsome.

Still want to see kick returns.

Good game! Great progress!

Look at Wahoos!

How can a team recruit so well, have such a good coach, and be in Texas and look so bad?

Mack Brown: "JT Barrett? Nah, I like this 1-9 Tyrone Swoopes."

Mack Brown: "Johnny Manziel? Maybe at Safety."

Mack Brown: "Dick Butkus? Nah, I've got some promising walk-ons that might tear things up."

The offensive and defensive lines pushed Texas around all nite. That's what I took away the most out of the game. Winning the battle up front.

Also, Texas looked lost throughout the game as they had terrible miscues and players knocking into each other all game.

What a game. I know this wasn't the National Champs Long horns but it wasn't wofford either.

-Team speed was awesome. (Esp. Defense)
-Zaire's poise in the Pocket was much better then i expected.
-I want to see Newsome get the kickoffs deeper.
-O-line had a few bad false starts.
-Jaylon Smith is a Freak.
-Adams much more of a polished back then i thought. picked up a huge block.
-For the most part a well called game on offense. And great on defense.

The turf seemed like to me that a lot of people were slipping.

If you're missing an OL or a QB your team is pretty screwed. They're missing both.

With that being said, I expect Texas to win at least 7 games this year. They aren't as bad as we made them look.

I don't know about that with these teams on their schedule ... Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Baylor, TCU, Kansas St., @ Iowa St., @ West Virgina ....

It felt good to come into a game knowing that we're the better team and knowing that we should push them around...and actually doing it.

I never thought we would be able to beat Texas the way we did when we first scheduled them, I don't even remember how long ago. We've come a long way.

1). Malik: a quarterback with physical talent but also his mind intensely in the game, present at every moment like a stone cold general;
2). OLine with more clean protection circles than we've seen lately; simply physically stoning most of the DLine;
3). Malik;
4). DLine astonishingly disruptive almost every play --- immovable on inside dives and a wrecking crew at moving the scrimmage line backwards otherwise;
5). Malik;
6). Oline getting mean and downfield [McGlinchey blocked someone's brains out in the first quarter so badly that the guy tried to fight him afterwards];
7). Malik;
8). Our great corners voiding the Texas receivers so badly that you never heard our names nor theirs;
9). Malik;
10). Our great receivers --- we probably could have passed to any of them all game long;
11). Malik;
12). The three "J's" at linebacker - James O included. Jaylon doesn't need comment --- other world. Joe's field generalship is subtler: one play a DLineman was shouting at the sideline about the call, and Joe just walked over to him and said a word and the big guy settled into his stance and played;
....

and a lot more

.... and, Malik.

Thamel: Notre Dame's rout of Texas confirms Irish are better with Malik Zaire at QB

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — No one said the obvious out loud because this is Notre Dame. And along with tradition, pageantry and scenic Saturdays, they still attempt to maintain a bit of decorum around here. So in the aftermath of the No. 11 Fighting Irish’s 38–3 thrashing of hapless Texas, no Notre Dame player, coach or administrator declared the most glaring takeaway from Saturday night.

As the Irish enter 2015, they’re a much better team and program without Everett Golson at quarterback. His replacement, Malik Zaire, authored a turnover-free game, threw with alarming accuracy and galvanized his teammates with his extraverted personality

That's a strong statement. I might agree, but I'd rather have Golson than Kizer at backup. Not that that would have happened...

ETA:gotta read that. Thamel hammers Golson almost as much as he praises Malik.

Forde: Is Notre Dame a contender? With QB Malik Zaire at the helm, it would appear so

Sporting News: Malik Zaire shows how scary turnover-free Notre Dame can be

Who in their right mind would try to fight McGlinchey. He's a scary dude.

BK gave shot to ND fans about the amount of Texas fans in the stadium during his post-game presser.

"... a Texas team that we certainly have a lot of respect for and their tradition and you saw how well they travel, they were here in droves"

The bewildered look on Texas head coach's face was unsettling. it was like he stepped into the twilight zone. They looked like hell. We looked pretty damn good compared to other opening home games. Tough schedule remaining optimistic.

Great to see you all back on here.

All I know is the defense made me very excited. They were flying around and sticking people.

Probably my favorite play of the game was when Swoopes was in the open field on 3rd and long, thinking he would prance to the first down, and Jaylon straight squared up and drove his ass into the ground.

BVG has me pumped again. Hopefully he can maintain it this year, and we don't relive the "BVG IS A GANGSTER" threads turning to "BVG IS A FRICKING PINHEAD"
