Social media, a few on here saying Texas was not really that good of a team.

Before the game starts, analysts saying Texas will give the Irish some fits, many saw it as going to be a closer game - with 7ish points.

Charlie Strong is a GOOD coach. He can only lead, not play. I thought, as well as many others at the house watching, Strong made good play-calls, the Irish's pursuit killed those plays. Irish are fast, faster than I realized.

Texas was power-ranked by ESPN analysts at 37th in the Nation out of 127 teams. They had 2 Frosh on the OL and 3 starting on Defense. Both on offense are 4 star recruits. 2 on defense were 5 star. Ranked that high, you should be able to start FBS teams.

Irish rolled Texas and as usual, the Irish beat a mediocre, not very good coached team.

3. CJ Prosise had a great game (20 carries for 98 yards), but he looked like less than a polished tailback. He got better as the game went along, but the first half he looked pretty awkward on the runs out of the backfield. Hopefully he continues to settle in and be productive. He looks like he could grow into a very good running back.

I just re watched him and disagree here. He ran with straight line attack and spun on contact. I thought he looked great.

Really really impressed with Jaylon Smith's open field tackling. I was at the game, and there were a couple of times when it looked like Texas was about to break out containment and he'd come flying in out of nowhere to shut it down.

Yes. He doesn't miss tackles

I just thought he looked awkward, not bad. I'm pretty sure I remember one run where he stopped almost right in the middle of the hole, as if he was looking to see which way to cut. He looks much more decisive and fluid on the jet sweeps.

The point wasn't that we shouldn't be high on him, but just a reminder that he is playing out of position, kind of. So his success there is an incredibly nice bonus for us.

1. Loved our OL ten yards down the field pushing the pile when Procise and Adams were about to go down.

2. Loved that we didn't lose our heads when the late hit out of bounds occurred

3. Pursuit and gang tacling was good...I few guys bounced off Swoops a couple of times but he's a horse.

4. Jaylon...clinic on open field tackling.

5. Freezing their kicker twice...and it worked!

6. Still can't seem to get a punt return.

7. Zaire running down the field to congratulate Fuller on the long TD...which OL man rolled trying to catch Zaire? Too Funny!

8. Zaire's "practice" answer...LOL

9. Shame on Alum for dumping tickets for some cash. Though I like it when the other school does it when I go to an away game.

10. Hate ESPN but they gave us plenty of love yesterday.

Yeah, I knew what you meant, but I didn't see that. Even re watching the game, I thought his technique looked pretty clean. Good pad level, ran upfield, spun at contact (instead of the classic Bryant/GA3 spin move at the line of scrimmage) and seemed to carry himself well. Indecisive is the last thing I would say about his play last night.

We certainly agree that his success was great to watch though, that's for sure.

Was at a wedding last night so wasn't able to catch the whole game. How did our STs look? I was reading on Twitter that Newsome wasn't doing so great in the beginning? Nice that Yoon nailed his first attempt of his career. Unfortunate he missed the 45-yarder.

What's with Jay Hayes not playing? Is he injured? And did Nyles Morgan play at all?

Anyone have a statline for Jaylon? It seemed like he was in on the tackle practically every play.

Watching the game back again, very impressed with Jaylon's run fits. Much better job, playing from the inside, being aggressive with those plays.

CJ, looks like a natural running the ball. He gets tough yards and is very instinctual running between the tackles. Very patient and picks his spots, perfect for this blocking scheme.

To He!l with Pumping the Brakes.

Of course we play better teams. Nothing that I saw tells me that we are weak-minded and will fold once those teams "hit us in the mouth." It's far more likely that they'll get haymakered right back. This is a tough veteran-led team. ... and in good physical condition. ... and it will one heckuva secondary who can guard our receivers. If Malik stays healthy we'll score on anyone.

The defense is fast and athletic, I'm still slightly reserved that a better QB will make this scheme pay for it's aggressiveness. However that's TBD, and I'll believe until it happens.

Insanely encouraged by Malik standing in the pocket and delivering strikes all over the field. That was very impressive.

Yes. I figured he would go to his first read, second read and then take off. But he hung in the pocket and went through his progressions and delivered bullets.

One thing that is a concern for me. KVR better shake the rust off, because he got burnt badly imo.

ST has me a little worried. Obviously, there's not much to go off, but Yoon's range looks like it caps out around 40 yards or so.

He hits in practice over 40 pretty consistently. That is definitely not the end of his range.

Other than the false starts the O line was awesome which was very encouraging and great to see. Malik was awesome too! Overall it was a good performance and a very enjoyable game to watch!

Looking at the play break down, Texas only ran 3-4 plays in 2nd and short situations. They also had 3-4 3rd and short s as well. Only 8 first downs.

OTOH, ND spent several plays in 2nd and 3rd and longs as well but they converted.

The way Malik handeled 3rd and longs was very encouraging. I thought he was exceptional in that part of the game. I personally don't believe even the staff thought he'd be that good.

Yeah, I watched the game live so that was based on my very brief impressions. Will be very happy if this year proves me wrong.

I thought kick coverage was better than in the past few years. Kick returns still a work in progress. Yoon was good from straight on, but from the hash he looked like a completely different kicker.

Hopefully we can get it worked out. It's great to see we converted them successfully, but being in that position that many times against some of the tougher D's we will face won't have the same results.

Ball control.... This qb has it.

This defense is mean. Hopefully it stays this way.

I think the fault was with the safety. KVR thought he had help coming over the top. Not sure why Cole would be the deep coverage there, but he was late getting over to help. IIRC.
